I'll admit, I am a Ricky Hatton fan. But even I started to question his ability after the loss to Mayweather and his win against Lazcano, where he struggled to hit top gear and was hit by some heavy shots. albeit winning comfortably in the end.
Had all those years of drinking and ballooning up and down in weight had an effect on his performances?
He needed a change of trainer to revitalise. I saw Billy Graham as more of a mate instead of a trainer, especially in the last year or so of their partnership.
Now Floyd Mayweather Snr seems to have got him focussed more on the basics again. He used his jab better last night, and he didn't rush in like he may have done 6 months ago.
Anyway, I'm rambling. My question, can you see Hatton being beaten at 140 pounds? And by who?
Personally I think he is quite clearly the best fighter in the world in that division and the only way he'll suffer defeat again is if he moves up to Welterweight.
Thoughts?
Much as I would like him too I doubt he will fight at 140 again.
which means people will say he's ducked Torres, Holt, Bradley, Kotelnik, Witter :lol2: and apparently some nobody called Ortiz.
Cmon now Ortiz is one of the hottest new prospects.
If Mayweather comes back to fight him at 140 he will beat him. I think that's where this is headed: father against son, rejuvenated Hatton at "his" weight class, Mayweather's return...this equals big, big bucks. Not a fight that I care to see, but Mayweather would win I believe.
Hatton's pretty much safe at 140. His remaining fights now though lie at 147. There lie some great battles. I'm not 100% confident about Ricky at 147. He beat Collazo, but was well beaten by FM.
He could still settle into the welterweight division yet. A good tune-up fight before fighting for one of the world titles at 147 would be his wisest move next - Zab Judah maybe...
