Hatton told BBC Sport afterwards that Mayweather Jr, the son of his trainer Floyd Sr, has come out of retirement, raising the possibility of a rematch some time next year
Mayweather will fight anyone you mentioned if HBO puts up millions like 25-30. Mayweather would beat Cotto & Margarito easily, Williams would pose a tougher challenge. Margarito is too slow for Mayweather and Mayweather would pot shot and KO Margarito in the later rounds in my opinion. Same thing with Cotto. Mayweather is a master at side stepping opponents and pot shoting at angles. Williams reach and height and overall skill would bring out the best Mayweather. Also remember if the rematch against Hatton in late 2009 is true like Hatton mentioned to the BBC after the Malignaggi fight, he will take it because Hatton has a great fan support and brings in the most dough. Mayweather could care less if he fought Joe Schmo. He is in it for GREED. THATS THE HONEST TRUTH TO BE REALISTIC.
another woulda, coulda, shoulda stan.
Brilliant.
So why does he HAVE to fight a real WW? If he never cared for the division, and that is not his natural weight?
Thats what champions do in any division they are in.
I don't understand the reasoning of Floyd. If he is coming back for a big payday, and is so tempted by the promise of millions of dollars, why did he retire rather than fighting the De La Hoya rematch, where he was set to pocket upwards of $10 million? And to beat a guy he'd already conquered!
Makes no sense. I think Floyd will stay retired.
Hes actually put himself in a strange position. He yaps about all this money he has and how hes tired of the sport. If he does come back, it will be strictly about the money which would show he talks out of his ass and doesn't have nearly as much bread as he claims.
Boxing has done just fine without him.
If Floyd does come back he needs to beat a real WW.
I am a HUGE Floyd fan, but I am getting tired of his World Star Hip Hop videos and him wanting to fight guys he has already beat.
htown you are a great Poster....and funny as hell...
so dont take this as disrespect...just a honest question
When you say Floyd needs to beat a real WW?
You say that like Floyd 1st or 2nd division was WW and he has been fighting Small guys his whole Career....
Context
The WW Division
Cotto's: 2nd Division
Margarito's: 2nd Division
Shane Mosley: 3rd Division
Andre Berto: 2nd Division
Joshua Clottey:2nd Division
Kermit Cintron: 1st Division
Paul Williams:2nd Division
CarlosQuintana:1st Division
Floyd Mayweather 4th Division
If you say Mayweather has grown into the Welther weight division even though that is his 4th Division
PLease Answer this Direct Question:
1.If Mayweather Has grown into a Natural WW, What Have the Other Fighters who have been in the WW division Grown into if that is their 1st or 2nd Division..?
or do you think that Mayweather is the only fighter who Grows in the Division?
(w.a.w)= Walk around Weight
Floyd Mayweather 4th Division (w.a.w) = 150
Cotto's: 2nd Division (w.a.w) = 170
Margarito's: 2nd Division (w.a.w) = 174
Shane Mosley: 3rd Division (w.a.w) = 165
Andre Berto: 2nd Division (w.a.w)= 164
Joshua Clottey:2nd Division (w.a.w)= 170
Kermit Cintron: 1st Division (w.a.w)= 160-162
Paul Williams:2nd Division(w.a.w)= 165
Carlos Quintana:1st Division(w.a.w)= 163
Goggle: Fighter Name Walk around Weight
Floyd Mayweather seem like the only unnatural ww in the division to me...when he was their... and the smallest...
So why does he HAVE to fight a real WW? If he never cared for the division, and that is not his natural weight?
NO, he just wasn't allowed to grapple and hold and hit. Cortez took advantage of the rules and didn't allow it to happen after the first few times.
Hatton's style of fighting was done way back in the day...boring style fight.
People want to see fists fly
But I'm sure Ricky will want you to believe it (even though he doesn't), as well as Floyd if he comes out of retirement to promote a rematch....It will be one big reason to help fans pay for it again.
Really? Strange, Cortez went on to referee the Calzaghe/Hopkins fight shortly after that and let them grapple and hold eachother all night long. A referee shouldn't "take advantage of the rules", especially if it benefits one fighters style like it obviously did that night. In-fighting and clinching are part of boxing.

man that doesn't look ANY thing like Paulie..TRUE TALK.
Then you should be mad at the entire division ducking everyone. not a single signifigant welterweight fight is on the horizon, even with mayweather gone, a year has gone by, nothing resolved except cotto/margarito. and all that did was make things even worse.
good point..very good solid point sir.
Cortez was shouting in Hatton's face all night long and totally distracting him and not letting him fight on the inside. It was so blatantly obvious that he was on the payroll. At one point he got so carried away trying to please his paymasters that he deducted a point from Hatton for no reason at all. Cortez should have been arrested. The ref last night was excellent.
ur an idiot. why do hatton fans use the ref as an excuse. Cortez didnt hit hatton with a left hook from hell and send him head first into the ring post, Mayweather did. Hatton lost, Mayweather KO him the f.uck out. End of.
Hatton should be tied up with the winner of Hoya/Pac
A Floyd jnr/Hatton rematch should'nt even be discussed.
He will never beat Floyd. And nothing i saw last night has changed my mind either....
I dont think Floyd is coming back for Hatton. Hatton wont go to WW and Floyd aint going to 140 unless he plans to stay there and I just dont see that yet. Plus, the fight would probably have to be in England and I dont think Hatton is in a rush to fight him anyway.
I think Floyd is coming back because Oscar just said that he has some more fights in him so I think Floyd wants the winner of Oscar/Pac. Again, Im not ever going to be upset at Floyd for not fighting Margarito or Cotto unless he suddenly gets bigger. I just dont think its fair for people to demand him to fight these huge guys. So what he's in that same division? Everyone knows that Floyd is much more of a real 140 pounder and could even go to 135 while Margarito is much more of a real 154 pounder. It just isnt a fair fight
good point...
BUT with the remarkable skills Floyd possess size doesn't really matter unless one's a natural middleweight..his talent alone can carry him through any adversity I believe...which is probly y we never see him in serious trouble in the ring. I believe most of us want to see him fight through adversity which is y we criticize him..

I totally agree with you bro... well said

Haha holy shit! Paulie looks like the predator or something.

nah cortez didn't lose hatton the fight.
I say he did. Hatton was fighting two people that night.
