My thoughts on Malignaggi v. Hatton

Malignaggi is a chocolate teapot.

I dont think he broke his hand...unless there is confirmation somewhere i dont believe it... i just think paulie let hatton dictate the fight... if paulie stayed on the outside (like he did in the first round) i honestly believe he would have got a split decision...its so evidant...look at the difference when they fight on the outside...hatton is too slow...but on the inside it gives hatton ALL the advantage...he's the bigger man...the stronger man...etc. Paulie did get hurt about 3-4 times...but he was pretty selfaware and was able to keep from going down... i dont think paulie would have been in any danger had he finished the fight... if mcgirt let him go to the 11th why stop it then when (especially at the time of the stoppage) nothing dramatic happened...paulie wasnt hurt at the time or in any danger... i felt mcgirt should have let them finish. I heard him wispering something about feeling pain but Mcgirt told him to work through it and if he didnt start throwing punches he would throw the towel in

Malignaggi should retire if he don't to throw a punch from the right hand... This fight looks like, Hatton fighting a boxer with an amputated right hand...

Paulie did get hurt about 3-4 times...but he was pretty selfaware and was able to keep from going down... i dont think paulie would have been in any danger had he finished the fight... if mcgirt let him go to the 11th why stop it then when (especially at the time of the stoppage) nothing dramatic happened...paulie wasnt hurt at the time or in any danger... i felt mcgirt should have let them finish. true, the only thing stopping Paulie from going down was his heart no doubt but I have seen him walk away from bigger wars, it was wrong of McGirt to do that. I understand as a former fighter he knows what taking unnecessary punishment can do to a fighter and was only protecting Paulie, not trying to have what happened to Jeff Lacy happen to him but it wasn't nearly as bad. can't really hate him for it but I wouldn't have done that nor would I have wanted the fight stopped, be as it may even if I DO get hurt I did it doing what I love and what I would do over and over again in any different life I could live u know. this is like an unfair conviction and McGirt should have known that, Malignaggi was stopped by McGirt and not Hatton and now he has THAT much more banging away at his confidence, the fact that HE felt he could have continued and actually wanted to but was stopped by his corner who felt he was getting senselessly beaten, his people of support were the ones with the least support in a moment where he needed it most.

Malignaggi couldn't fight his fight because Hatton didn't allow him to fight his fight, he was applying educated pressure from the opening bell and Malignaggi never looked comfortable with the pressure. He was clinching Hatton because he needed seperation from Hatton, Malignaggi is not a good inside fighter, he knew Hatton was much better on the inside so he clinched, knowing that the referee would have to break them up and give him the distance he needed to work but this is where his lack of power comes in, he didn't have the power to get Hatton's respect or to make him cautious so Hatton was able to close the gap without having to worry about what Malignaggi was going to do to him. Malignaggi is also a pretty bad defensive fighter, his style relies a lot on speed, reflexes and movement, his speed isn't great, his reflexes don't seem that good either and his movement gets predictable, he has very little head movement as well. He was simply outclassed by the better fighter. I also thought the fight shouldn't have been stopped, at least let him see out the fight, he wasn't getting seriously hurt although he was stunned a few times in the late rounds, he was never on the verge of getting knocked out, I think McGirt prematurely stopped it. If Malignaggi wants to come back, then good luck to him, he'll need to make improvements though and I'm not sure if Buddy McGirt can help him make those improvements.

blah, blah Paulie should've done this, shoud've done that. Paulie was not gonna be able to box Ricky for the entire fight. Like Lennox said, a fighter needs to have some type of pop in his punches to make the opponent respect his opposition, with 5 ko's in his resume, it didn't matter if Paulie boxed, or this and that, Hatton would've gotten to him regardless. i agree...but if hatton can only get to him for 3-4 rounds as long as paulie survives he wins right??? instead of getting to him for all but 2 rounds... right?

I agree. Peulie should've been able to say he went the distance with Hatton.

Paulie ****ed up his hands early again, the guy cant throw a right without breaking it. Buddy McGirt I'm sure had good intentions for Paulie but he was a fighter too, he knows what a KO loss can do to a fighters will, they may never be the same again after that, at least if he would have went the distance he would have found consolation in the fact he was able to endure it and keep coming but when your cornerman stops it you'll take it worse. thing is Hatton didn't KO Paulie yesterday it was McGirt, as a former fighter and current trainer I understand why Buddy did it but then again HE is the reason his fighter has been stopped in his career because as unnecessary as it was to let him go on for another round it would have saved him some pride, Paulie is a tough cookie man he should have been allowed to finish. I agree completely, he looked terrible. his movement was off, he was staying in front of Hatton and throwing single jabs in response to BIG power shots from Hatton, Paulie didn't look NOTHING like himself, he looked horrible and even still went to 11.
