Ricky Hatton just shamefully embarrassed NY pretty boy, Paulie Malignaggi, at 140. It was a total clown job. By round 5, Malignaggi was just trying to survive without getting a KO on his record. That dream was terminated when his corner threw in the towel in round 11. After the fight, Hatton said he was pleased to be back at the "scene of the crime" (a reference to Joe Cortez, the referree of the Hatton/Floyd fight). Hatton further said nobody can beat him at 140 lbs which is his natural fighting weight.
Hatton was overrated when he fought Floyd at 147. But, at 140 Hatton is a different fighter. Nobody can doubt that. But, would Hatton have been able to dominate Floyd at 140, too?
I'm not sure. Unlike Malignaggi, Floyd has a little power. Clearly a fight at 140 would be a closer run thing, but it's hard to see enough difference to make Hatton the betting favorite in a rematch at JrWW. A live longshot...definitely. I would definitely skip the pay preview and catch it on HBO's very first re-run.
WTF?!? He said Zags defense is better then Mayweather's?!? Oh no. Please tell me he didn't try to go there.....
I know it's incredible Someone had the quote (and link) on their sig cant remember who too tired goodnight.
and btw that's exactly what i asked when i saw it. :D
Hatton having a better chance at 140? Are you guys drunk? Yes Hatton is better at 140 than 147. But that is only going on the fact that when he went to 147 he showed that he cannot compete, which Floyd can. 160lbs, or 130lbs Floyd knocks his ass out at any weight. Amazes me how you guys think 7 pounds is enough of a difference to make up for the schooling Hatton got vs. Floyd.
I've said it before that Floyd has the talent to beat Ricky 7 times out of 10. But, the weight and Joe Cortez conspired to remove the remaining 3. IMO. But, I don't care what you say, making 140 is not the same as making 147. For Hatton to have to move up from 140 was not doing him any favors at all. He did it because Floyd would not come down to 140.
thing is once a fighter moves up you really think he wants to go back down? especially when he actually finds it comfortable in his new weight, makes more money and increases his fan base due to the opposition he'll be in line to face? hell no man, Ricky opened HIS mouth, HE disrespected Mayweather by his own choice of words and made it so that HE has to rise to the challenge. you can't open your mouth and not expect a fight but that doesn't necessarily means Floyd should go back to 140, to me it's more if Ricky wants Floyd he should move to his terrain.
if anything going up to 147 helped him because at least his titles weren't on the line, he walked away defeated but still the TOP player at 140 much like Kelly Pavlik. at 140 not only would have Mayweather beaten him worse but he would have lost his titles and made Floyd a champion in 2 weight classes at 1 time further adding more greatness to his legacy. 147 was fine it's just he couldn't do to Floyd and Collazo what he did to these other guys, styles makes fights and it's hard to look good against solid Boxer's with power when you are Ricky Hatton.
He will never gets over it, in his eyes Hatton lost to a fighter whose defense is fine but not as good as Jo Calzaghe's...
WTF?!? He said Zags defense is better then Mayweather's?!? Oh no. Please tell me he didn't try to go there.....
Really. It's been nearly a year, and Wiley Coyote still can't get over it.
I'm thinking of making a huge anniversary thread on Dec. 8th.......

The only statement anyone made about that says the opposite.
How is Cortez responsible for Hatton getting knocked out and beat up on the inside, on the outside and at midrange?
No. Mayweather beats Hatton at any weight. Hatton is definitely better at 140 then at 147, but not good enough to beat Floyd. Its nothing to be ashamed about.

To the original question. Mayweather beats Hatton 9 out of 10 times. That being said, I would watch them fight all of those 10 times. Mayweather is a rare, special fighter.
Unfortunately, not only is rarely pushed to his limits, but very rarely is actually forced to fight. Hatton makes him fight: he has the speed to make Mayweather bothered by his attack (unlke say Baldomir) him throw more, and unlike many of Mayweather opponents' he has the guts to keep coming after eating one too many counters (unlike Judah, De La Hoya). I always said that Hatton is the only entertaining and some what competitive (no Gatti, Mitchell type of stuff) fight we'll see Mayweather above lightweight, and I still stand by my claim.
to make this post is to disrespect Floyd Mayweather Jr. you think Hatton was the only one who wasn't the same at 147 as he was in 140? Floyd was better at 140 too accept when it came time to step up to 147 and even 154 regardless of opposition Floyd rose to the occasion, he adapted better but there is no doubt that the lighter Mayweather is the more dangerous he would have been. he beats Ricky not because of weight but because regardless of ANYTHING you can say Floyd Mayweather is the better fighter, THAT'S why he beat Ricky, had nothing to do with weight or anything.
Floyd is leagues ahead of Hatton in terms of skills and he proved it, Hatton is very limited or should I say he WAS very limited, that changed yesterday against Malignaggi with Sr. in his corner, and compared to Floyd it was a no contest, a fight I didn't even think made sense. Hatton wont beat Floyd at any weight it's just the difference in skills, he can't hit him because he can't outsmart him and to beat Floyd you have to outsmart him with constant smart pressure punching and not just blind pressure, Hatton is good man I got nothing but love and respect for him and I love to watch him fight but I'm a fan of BOXING not the boxers, Ricky wont get nothing but truth from me and the truth is that in ANY weight class you want to name he wont find Floyd.

But Hatton came in at 147. That's the point. I'm talking about Hatton, not Floyd.
Do you think Hatton usualy comes in at 140 on fight night?
Or do you think that dehydrating and rehydrating is beneficial to Hatton?
BTW, someone has a sig (and a link) quoting you stating that Calzaghe has better defense than Mayweather, so why am i surprised to read this...
I dont think Hatton would get KO'd. I just feel Mayweather would outbox him again.
I'd love to see this fight with a ref that would let Hatton fight on the inside...
Hatton got beat up on the inside too, what's your point?
OH, Floyd vs. Ricky now?
Still favor Floyd. Floyd's in his 30's now, has been off a year, and the fight would take place in May/June if it were in England at Wembley, so... If Floyd had no tune-up fights between that, that gives a little more room for Hatton to succeed.
Personally, I don't like the way Floyd Jr. has been fighting. He doesn't punch as much, which might be because of his hands, and he just sits there and barely moves around compared to when he was younger/lighter.
Floyd used to want to win every round but now, he is very cautious when he fights. I think it goes hand and hand with his interview about worrying about his health for his kids…eh
I think Floyd would have to act and fight like his younger version to beat this Hatton. He would need to fight from round 1
instead of just sitting there waiting.
It kind of reminds me of how Hopkins used to start to take off for the first 6 rounds as he got older. Somewhat similar to Jones Jr as he got older and used the one shot at a time/pot-shot, decreased use of the jab in exchange for the lead right, and just stationary approach.
And yes, I agree, neither is SRR...which some have put him up there with.
Chris Eubank said that in an interview a while ago. Something along the lines of being so good that you stop throwing punches, because you don't need to. He said that about himself and Mayweather Jr.
Let me explain this one last time:
When fighters fight at 140, the tend to show up by fight time at 147-149. They drain weight for the weigh-in and then put it back on.
Floyd never had to drain himself to make 147 becaue he showed up at 147 by fight time...which means, he is coming in at the same weight Hatton and most fighters do that fight at 140.
It was a 140 pound fight without the draining for the weigh-in.
Thank you...
140..147..135...150...it doesnt matter Hatton loses....Mayweather isnt a weight drain fighter
You may be right. But, at 140 Hatton is a better fighter than he is at 147. That's the point, and it's hard to deny.
