This is not a hate thread on Mosley by any means. We all know what was was capable of in his prime and is a for sure hall of famer. But do you think Shane Mosley who lost a very close decision to Cotto and who beat a faded Mayorga deserves a 50-50 split in the purse with a candidate for fighter of the year in Margarito?
Seriously guys think about it from his viewpoint and top ranks. He is getting ****ed over with a 50-50 split, even if its a career high payday. In my opinion this fight should have never been talked about since i personally think Margarito will stop Mosley into retirement but that is just me.
that may be true, but if both were to retire right now mosley walks into the HOF and marg doesn't.
mosley's not what he used to be but he's not RJJ shot and he's not BHop old. He had a close fight w/ Cotto and is still a force at welterweight.
also marg isn't making any money by not fighting.

Quit living in the year 2000 please. Mosley is not a factor anymore at 37 he's just wanting to make one last paycheck. His fight against mayorga was un-impressive to say the least and by the tone of his voice after the fight he himself knows it's time to hang em up. If shane thinks he deserves more or half of the money for a margarito fight, then shane needs to get off the steriods because it's making his head big. Lets see shane:
You just had your fight with mayorga moved from one date to another because HBO knew you couldnt compete with a card on showtime. Not only that they changed the card from ppv to free hbo because they knew it wouldn't sell. They figured this fight wouldn't sell in vegas so the best hope is to put the old guy in front of his home crowd in Los Angeles and draws a reported crowd of 5,000 fans and people there said it was about 3,500 Including Earner who covered the fight for boxingscene, and maxboxing. So in your hometown Mr. big name shane against a very exciting fighter in mayorga you bring 3,500 people to watch the fight. Yes the same mayorga that is a household name that people like to see fight. The same mayorga that brought over 500k ppv buys in each fight against dlh and tito. And yes shane the same mayorga that vargas was able to get a ppv date with and sell 300k ppv's!! yet only 3,500 come to watch mayorga fight YOU free on HBO???
Lets rewind to over a year ago when the lesser known Margarito faces a still relatively unknown paul williams who at the time NO ONE BUT hard core BOXING FANS KNEW WHO HE WAS and still is not a good sell. AT THE SAME VENUE MARGARITO BRINGS A RECORD 8,000+ FANS!!! How do you explain that? Now since that fight he's fought at madison square garden, Atlantic city, and The MGM Grand Capturing Two world Championships in the process and Knocking out the undefeated welterweight champion of the world in a fight that many say saved boxing that can be argued as the fight of the year and does 400k plus ppv's in a struggling economy.
and mosley is the better draw? "peeleft:
And what does this have to do with anything I said?
I mentioned, if you actually took the time to read it, that the sole point I see on Margarito's side was that yes he is indeed the bigger draw of the two right now. You counter with a "Mosley's still a force" diatribe to which I NEVER said he was or wasn't.
you sure that post was meant for me or are you just trying to find someone anyone remotely pro Margarito to shit on?
based on the facts you produced I conceded the point that margarito is probably the bigger draw, so I had to counter w/ something else. I didn't think I had to explicity admit that.
that may be true, but if both were to retire right now mosley walks into the HOF and marg doesn't.

while I do understand the perception since Mosley has been in the spotlight a lot longer than Margarito as of right now do you still think Mosley is the name and the draw when stats show otherwise? If so then why do you think that?
to me the only point Margarito makes that does make sense is that he is the bigger draw right now (yeah I am very against him not making the fight). He drew more people to the same venue than did Shane with a lesser known opponent in PWill, the supposed 450k buys for the Cotto fight outdid Mosleys last three PPVs (Vargas I and II, Cotto) and his debut on Ring Magazine is the highest selling issue they have had this year and the highest since the DLH Mayweather one.
to me that means Margarito's popularity and star power is bigger than that of Mosley's at this point in time.
too bad my boy isn't capitalizing on it though. Shame really

He doesn't deserve it but he's still the name and the draw so 50/50 is probably alright.

I'm pretty sure Margs would of taken the fight if it was 60-40 in his favor.
ok... so margs will take 60-40 against some bum... that's still less than the $2 mill he'd have made against mosley... dumb move by margarito.
thats why the fight aint happening
yep but who can marg fight for that much money besides mosley, pwill and cotto?
if marg doesn't fight till june then he might look like crap because of the ring rust.
if marg fights some bum before cotto and get less than $2 mill he'll look like a ass... lose lose situation for dummy margarito.

Mosley is the name and the bonafide HOFer... Margarito is mexican.
I think at 50/50 split is justified.
The point I was making is Oscar is the bigger name and gets bigger cut, Margarito isn't a bigger name and shouldn't get a bigger cu t

Yes, Margarito can only dream of accomplishing what Mosley has.
Besides it would be a career high pay day, for a guy who is supposed to be a huge star? Kinda shows you how fair it is.
shane's great career was at 135 did you know that? Tell me his accomplishments since moving up from 135. A controversal win(which he lost) over dlh 15 years ago? collazo? mayorga? fat vargas? estrada(on margarito's ppv undercard lmao)
Question, if Oscar fought Margarito at WW?? Should Margarito get 50/50
mayweather didn't even get 50%
pac is not getting 50%
trinidad did not get 50%
why would margarito get 50%?
no he doesn't deserved margarito is the champ he deserves more than the challenger right now him and cotto brought boxing back to life after the big fight they give us margarito has a better record than mosley.
i dont think you did your research
margarito
won 37 (KO 27) + lost 5 (KO 0) + drawn 0 = 43
rounds boxed 237 : KO% 62.79
mosley
won 45 (KO 38) + lost 5 (KO 0) \= 51
rounds boxed 343 : KO% 74.51
best record out of the 2 would be mosley with more wins, kos, and ko's percentage

Well since Margarito hasn't got a better deal on the table and is instead going to fight a nobody in Mexico for a lot less money, instead of facing HOF Mosley, then i'd say 50-50 is definitely fair.
50% of £4million > 90% of £500,000
