With Joe Calzaghe's recent victory over Roy Jones Jr., the Welsh born superstar walked away with the biggest purse of his career to date. According to a report from the Wales on Sunday, the publication reveals that Calzaghe earned a whopping $10 million dollars for his role.
Although Calzaghe vs. Jones Jr. didn't do so well as expected in terms of pay-per-view buys, Calzaghe still walks away with a great pay day.
Estimates of the Pay-per-view buys puts it somewhere under the 250,000 buy range. Very poor in sales, considering the fight was projected to bring in twice that much.
Calzaghe deserves the money, and it's good to see him getting so richly rewarded.
i don't know how 250 buys gets 20million payday for the fights
that doesn't add up
500K buys yes, but not 250K
Estimated PPV Revenue
250,000 * $40 = 10,000,000
Estimated Ticket Sales - Lets say if the average ticket price is $200
13,000 * $200 = 2,600,000
That accounts for 13m, and fight sponsorship, merchandising, foreign tv deals, and Setanta would have probably added another 5m.
I would guess that all revenue streams combined made up the boxers purses, but I doubt HBO made any money, and that is not very good for boxing.
Not really. Roy got more percentage of the PPV'S while Joe got more percentage of the live-gate.
its a 50/50 deal you plum.
as in total revenue split down the middle.
10 mil, damn thats alot of money. good for calzaghe, the man should just retire unless he wants to fight dawson which i think would be a good fight, calzaghe would school him but dawson is still young and has heart so i can see dawson pushing the fight like kessler did :headbang:
I know it's a lot of money, but that won't last him very long. He will be back in the ring no doubt.
Ten million wouldn't last Tyson very long (two trips down Rodeo drive - at the most), but it's more than enough for Joe.
He practically lives like a monk.
that's what Froch's camp were offering Calzaghe.
How could they possibly afford that deal.....lol. Considering both fight on free channels or a subscription channel like Joe. and this was with 250k American PPV buys. Someones chatting shit in the Froch camp.
