Although i agree Calzaghe has a better resume as of now (mostly because of Lacy and Kessler) Dawson already has his Kessler in Adamek and his Roy Jones in the man who originally beat Roy Jones, Tarver. He also arguably, true but still, beat Jonhson who is a handful for anyone even past his prime. Lets not forget Chad, at 26 already has fought and beat 3 undefeated guys one of which a champion. Tarver was also the champion so that makes 2 great and good champions in resume. And he's 10 years younger than Calzaghe. At 26 Calzaghe had ONLY past his prime Eubanks worth mentioning. I'm guessing people soon will be saying Joe Who?
Dawson won't pass Calzaghe's record unless there is a sudden burst of good LHW apear from nowhere, presently the LHW division sucks, it's got less depth than Heavy and thats saying something.
As for present resume.
Eubank >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Anything on Dawsons Resume.
i guess its to bad that in any sane persons mind chad dawson has already lost a fight , considering glen johnson put a freakin whooping on him , dont get me wrong bad chad dished it out also but anyone who watched the fight knows that win was gift wrapped for him undeservedly .
otherwise ud have an ok arguement in suggesting that chad could surpass joe
Hopkins dwarfs all of Dawsons wins and second Kessler is a 3x champion WBC, WBA x2 so Kessler can claim that.
The best fighter that Kessler beat was Mundine, who is not better than Adamek, Johnson or Tarver. Hopkins on the other hand, is an all time great that is at the end of his career, so of course he has better wins than Dawson does right NOW. Dawson is on his way up and has not even hit his peak yet.
"He wants to fight the older legends instead of proving his greatness against younger champions"
Are you stupid or what!
You must be, especially if you didn't understand that. Older legends that are past their prime with little significance in beating them( the Hopkins win was a good one though since he beat Pavlik after wards). A win over Dawson would do Calzaghe better than a win over Jones, who was knocked out by fighters that Dawson beat in his last two fights.
BE fair to joe!! johnson late 30's and tarver about 40. harding at very end of career! carl daniles at beginning of losing streak, adamek? come amigos. dawson nice resume. but nothing like the jones-hopkins, calzaghe type records.

Hopkins doesn't want to fight Dawson either, so that's a moot point. Chad is on his way up, and he stills has those wins that makes him legitimate opponents for Calzaghe and Hopkins. I like Joe so don't get me wrong, but its just like Allucard said. He wants to fight the older legends instead of proving his greatness against younger champions.
That's the truth. Look at Calzaghe's resume when only had 27 fights and then look at Dawson. That's why i find it so laughable how people say that he doesn't deserve a shot at Calzaghe when he has far better wins than Calzaghe does at light heavyweight, is a proven champion and a two time champion, and that's something that Kessler or Lacy couldn't claim.
Stick Chad Dawson in the UK from the start of his career and see what his resume looks like after 27 fights?
It's safe to say it wouldn't boost many names on it, if any? Dawson plying his trade in the USA from the start gave him chances that Calzaghe didn't have at the start of his career.
If you define about 200 years as "soon" then you might have a point.
So, if Joe beats Chad, then which up coming fighter must he fight next before he proves himself?
There isn't really no one else. The thing is, Dawson is not the young guy who just got there and want to draw Joe to a fight. He was already the champion when Joe was playing "imaginary legacy" with Jones, a fight that should never happened.

Happening right now, this fight, although not really a big money fight for JC is way way better for him in the long run than for Dawson. If Dawson is slightly off i can see him losing this fight :S and we will have to admit a jerk is the undisputed champion. All the nazis on NBS will go wildy, JC will go out doing his gay dance and no one can say shit. This is actually the best scenario for Calzaghe. Wait like Jones did and you will be surprised. Even if it happens now i can also see Dawson winning as he is a better puncher and is more than fast enough to catch Zaghe multiple times and by that i mean all night. However if he fights like he did vs Johnson, he's toast.
I'm guessing people soon will be saying Joe Who?

I do think the fight between Joe and Chad should happen if Joe continues his career. And whoever wins, will get mad respect.
A fight against Dawson will show us if Calzaghe is more than a one division fighter. Calzaghe did win the Ring belt at LH, but he did so beating a former Middleweight that was 43 years old...so, I understand where you are coming from. Dawson will be a legit test at 175.
Exactly. And if JC wants to do this, there is no better time than now. We all agree JC chances will only go down from now on. Whoever wins this hypothetical fight will shock allot of people, that's for sure.

I thought i mentioned Johnson, well, he arguably won that fight but it's debatable of course. He looked awful in doing so. I tell you what, in not fighting this guy now, Calzaghe is making the same mistake Jones did not fighting him when he was able. Not comparing Jones and Zaghe in class though. I don't think Calzaghe is an ATG but he does have a chance to beat Dawson and possible remain relevant for longer after retirement. But instead Zaghe will continue to fight grandpas and such and when Dawson is a bigger star and matured and corrected his flaws, Calzaghe will want to comeback taking a bad beating like Jones or stay retired and lose his bright faster than he got it. I don't see what people see so special about Calzaghe. I think he's very active for a 36 year old but he's also VERY open to counters and can't punch correctly. Chad would land counters 9 out of 10 times for 12 full rounds, unlike the grandpas who couldn't do it for 12 or at all (Jones). He also can be bullied buy a stronger man and that's when all those things who made Joe a good fighter go out the window, sort of like when Cotto met Margarito and realized he couldn't dictate the pace no more. The memory i have of JC is him trying to emulate Roy of old, vs shot Roy and still getting caught. That was like "nice try but no cigar". He's also disrespectful to his opponents during fights not realizing he would lose that same fight 8 years ago vs both Bernard and Jones. That's what really makes me hate the guy. The fighter i hate because he's arguably the most overrated fighter today.

I'd say Tarver is in better shape right now then Roy Jones is.
I do agree people are over rating him too much though.
Better shape than Roy, yes, but past his prime. Roy is shot; Tarver has the flu.
I woudn't really call Lacy a good name to have on a resume. He was obviously VERY overrated.
He's not a bad fighter either. I didn't say great i said good. A great name to have in a resume neither of the two have them as of yet. I'd say a great name to have is having a 23 year old, champion, undefeated p4p king corrales like Mayweather had or the Toney Jones beat. Or the Pavlik Bernard beat at 43 years of age. Or the Taylor Pavlik beat or the Hatton Mayweather beat or the Foreman and Frazier Ali beat. Those are great resume not jus names, but real accomplishments.
