ROY JONES JR: "ME AND JOE BOTH THINK THE REMATCH IS A GOOD IDEA!"
By G. Leon

GL: You've had another week to reflect on your fight with Joe Calzaghe. Do you stilll maintain your position that had the bleeding from your cut been controlled you would have won the fight? "Yeah, the way I felt, I still definitely think I would have won the fight. I was the quicker fighter when I was good, I was the better puncher. I could have won the fight and had they kept the bleeding under control, I would have won the fight. Joe is a great fighter don't get me wrong, but if they would have controlled the bleeding I would have won the fight."

Roy, you can't beat Joe at this point. I'm a big drinker of RJJ koolaid, and even I know that. Roy you got hit more than ever, either retire or fight an easy farewell match. I don't want Roy to end up permanently injured.
On my scorecard I had it 115-112 to Calzaghe and I don't even like Calzaghe that much.
Id watch the rematch if this guy was a judge because then if Roy just moved for 12 rounds he could win a UD
ouch!!!
Unless Calzaghe wants some extra coins for the retirement fund. I'd rather he tempted Sven Ottke out of retirement if that's what he wanted, that would actually scratch an annoying itch.
Calzaghe gets a couple of million for fighting Coco the Clown at this point. How can anyone dismiss that kind of money easily.
NO. Just NO. Roy, as much as i hate to say this was flogged. apart from the knock down he had very little to do with the fights outcome except take a beating. it was a sad way to see roy end up but it happened and there s no point revisiting it
I feel you but there comes a point where the line that's always usually drawn has to be crossed, yes we can say no and complain about it but if ROY himself feels after such a beating that he could have done something then who are we to stop him?? it IS true that he's never been cut in a pro fight to my knowledge, it's also fact that for rounds 7-12 he wasn't throwing meaningful punches, he wasn't tired he was just fighting Joe's fight by trapping himself in the corner and allowing him to barrage him, he could have easily with the shape he came in with that night just side stepped, got out the way and hit back.
he had no thump behind his punches while each of Joe's normally pitter patter punches became strong, rapid power shots thrown with the intent to win. Jones had a more lasting effect that night, he was discouraged and just was completely taken out of his zone. I think with some time off, maybe a tune up fight against someone and some real preparation he can come back and do better.. like I said DO BETTER, I ain't saying a win but a do better would mean a lot after getting beaten so badly, there would be some sort of redemption because he has the skills to look better than that even in defeat. call me crazy but if you asked me I would much rather watch a rematch between RJ and Joe before MP and ODLH..
There are 3 fights out there for Calzaghe....
1, Chad Dawson
2, Jermain Taylor
3, Bernard Hopkins II
If it's not against one of these then he should hang them up.
No, there is only one for Calzaghe fans. Jermain Taylor is ass, he clinches too much. Calzaghe would school him. When Dawson gets tired he doesn't clinch but gets more defensive, I like those kind of fighters more. And since Calzaghe has better stamina then dawson, it would be good win for him since most ppl in the states believe that dawson is invincible. Plus, personally to me, Dawson is the most deserving of the challenge. Then Joe retires for good!
I honestly can see how this makes sense, you guys forget that these two were supposed to fight for 10 years already. a rematch wont hurt, I think if Roy just never stopped punching back and then to make it worse trap HIMSELF in the corner he could have walked away a winner, all he had to do was stay off the ropes, keep moving in the middle and present hard angles to Joe. I honestly feel this is a joke, I don't go to ********** anymore so I wont look to verify but it sounds fake, that being said if Roy can right those wrongs then we have a fight on our hands in a rematch.
it's funny because even in losing so badly Roy was still the faster fighter he just wasn't throwing punches back at Joe and when he did they were usually single shots that had no power behind them. in those late rounds you see it yo Jones wasn't hitting back, he wasn't committing to his punches JUST like Jim Lampley said and I still can't stomache Joe doing some shit like that to Roy and just walking away on top, I think that after such a bad beat down Roy should have a chance to try and redeem himself.
I see more of a point there than De La Hoya-Pacquiao that's for sure. I just think Roy had more to offer, he didn't look tired he just for some reason didn't rise to an occassion that was all his. he just let Joe bang away at times and just held up his hands Winky Wright style just trying to duck shots, if he would have cut that shit out and brought it to Joe for 12 he could have done better. maybe not a win but still better than that. you can't blame a guy like Jones, a man who was the closest thing to invisible in his time next to air for feeling how he feels, of course he would want another piece at Joe and I say let him have it, I've seen far worst rematches get done so I ain't mad at this if it happens.
