yeah thats weird
and both had/have pretty aggressive styles too
although duran had underrated D, pac has little to no defence
durans longevity, i would put down to him being a tough, tough man
pacquiao too, i mean hes a pro for 14 yrs and still no signs of decline
Pacquiao's defense has improved a lot though, he's blocking shots better now and he used to use his quickness to get out of the way of a lot of shots so his defense is OK. Duran's defense was very good, especially on the inside.
If you dont get fat in between fights. You can still be competitive till 40.
Duran got fat in between fights and he was still competitive in his late 40's.
Obviously not as good as he was in his prime but still good enough to beat top rated contenders like Jorge Castro and receive title shots against title holders like William Joppy.
yeah usually happens when you fight as a pro since your teen years
i mean look at morales, turned pro at 16 and done by age 30
but yeah his lifestyle wasnt the best either, mixture of factors
Barrera as well, he turned pro at 15 but he's a pretty old 34.
Pacquiao and Duran both turned pro at 16, Pacuqiao's still going strong, Duran's longevity was amazing.
Benitez also won it from Antonio Cervantes, a long-reigning light welterweight champion now inducted into the boxing hall of fame.
Pipino Cuevas was 18 when he upset the WBA welterweight champion Angel Espada. He went on to defend his title 11 times.
Benitez, while becoming the youngest champion ever, peaked very young as well, he was basically done by 1984 when he was 25. His lifestyle outside of the ring didn't help matters.
