what do you expect
its a reasonable arguement to question whether he is an ATG
he lost his way after the Jones fight and he had some VERY debatable decisions against McCallum and he should of lost to Tiberi and Rahman and he got beat by Griffin twice and outworked by Drake Thadzi a journeyman and he got beaten by Sam Peter twice
if he had stayed in shape a fight with Tiberi,Thadzi would not have even been competitive allthough you could agure he was in shape for the Thadzi fight wel that is what he said anyway
First off he should of got the first McCallum fight and there was no dout in my mind he got the next two, and ok yes he did lose his way after the Jones fight but look at him him before the Jones fight something which you forgot to mention. stopped unbeaten pound for pounder Michael Nunn, stopped Iran Barkley, stopped undeafeted 1985 United States Amateur Light middleweight champion prospect Tim Littles, and then after falling off the ladder after the Jones (in which he was really weight drained for) fight he peaked again 03 beating number 1 ranked cruiserweight and very highly thought of gold medalist Vassiliy Jirov, and then becoming only the second man in history to stop Evander Holyfield. And montell griffin was a very underatted fighter in his prime who caused a prime Roy Jones fits before Roy hit him after the knock down with frustration. And a lot of fighters have slip ups (Thadzi) he's not the only one and won't be the last.James has also been very high in the pound for pound and has been in the list twice and is a three weight world champ. And Roy Jones also said it was his hardest fight Jones said ''He was the hardest to hit and the smartest''And even when he was past his prime with bad injuries he was still getting close decsions with some of todays best heavyweights (Sam Peter). And he has also been Ring fighter of the year twice 91 and 03.
Jupiter stupider then my blonde hair dick contributioner... Toney is great cuz of his craft, dude was the vince van gold of the shit in my eyes.. Not the best bu tone of the most mentioned and unforgettable1
Yeah but a achielles heel is really ment to be a bad injury and can end your boxing career, so i think for a short time he had to turn to steroids to ease the pain and do what he loves to do.Sad the way a Legend like James is getting douted.

No Dout!
.Pound For Pounder
.3 Weight World Champ
.Wins over McCallumx2, Iran Barkley,Reggie Johnson,Michael Nunn,Vassiliy Jirov,Evander Holyfield.
.Cast Iron chin/Great boxing ability.
.Fought and beat some of the best of his era.
Sad the way he is now getting douted late in his career due to his steroid use in which he used for achielles heel.
I believed him the first time but then he got caught a second time......
True. But I don't believe before 2005 James Toney was using steroids. Like I said he just doesn't at all seem like that kind of guy to me.
do you really think Toney was steroid cheat though? c'mon :D
Toney tested positive probably because he was taking steroids to treat injuries.
James is an old school, hard nosed guy. I just don't seem him as that type.
Like James said, if I'm the poster boy for steroids, steroids is going out of buisness. lol

He's definitely a great fighter, I'm hesitant to call him an ATG though because of his lack of discipline and his past steroid use.

Of course hes an all time great. His resume speaks for itself. Nunn, Jirov, McCallum, Ruiz, Sosa, Williams and a bunch of others. Hes a 4 division champion and will be a first ballet hall of famer.
i gotta say definatly, the man will fight anybody, dont get all caught up in the james toney hw era, toney was and still is one of the best pure boxers in the world, regardless of his division. toney as a mw was just simply amazing, speed, power, timing, and just one of the best boxing minds since pep. toney is a shoe in for the hof:firedevil
One of the best fighters of ANY generation. We were lucky to have seen him in our time.
Also, I love his WWF (WWE) type interviews. He's said some funny stuff over the years.

OF COURSE James Toney is an ATG. ROFL!
hof Sure..
Atg....**** No
He Never Once Unified...lost To Montell Grifith And Sam Peter Twice...was A Disgrace As A Heavy...cheated Numerous Times
Im Sorry Those Don't Get You Atg Status
Yea But He Really Wa Only Ever A Middle Weight..he Wasnt Even Cut At 175...now Hes 40 Something And Beating Heavyweights, On Top Of That Hes 5'9
The Jirov fight was incredible though. Well it looks like based on these early polls that boxingscene.com does think James Toney is an all time great.
it was a very good fight but it was NO Barrera v Morales 1
actually i think Holyfield v Dokes was a far better fight aswell
