who has the questionabe resume Jones or Calzaghe ?i just thought i would throw this out there, there seems to be Calzaghe fans out there that have the audacity to point at Jones resume as weak
i think they both leave a lot to be desired but more so Calzaghe he has never faced let alone beaten an elite fighter in his prime
calzaghe vs hopkins is a wash cause no one thinks calzaghe won that fight legitimately just like sven ottke's career! unfinished business with jones? it was only unfinished business in joes wackjob mind. fighting a shot fighter who shouldnt be in the ring sven ottke probably had more respect for boxing than that.
so again they both had 21 defenses at supermiddleweight. ottke had a real belt though so edge to him there. joe knocked out 12 more bums early in his career so i guess he gets the edge there but ottke won the world title in only his 13th pro fight he didnt waste time knocking over cans.
SAME EXACT RESUME
Sigh...
fail.

You're blatantly wrong again. And I'm not sure why I bother... :) Calzaghe vs. Delaney, 1996, look it up. JC choosing to come to Las vegas to fight one of the top p4p fighters in the world, then choosing to end some unfinished business with Jones at MSG, New York, in the same year.
Again, where are the similarities to Ottke?

Jones has fought over 20 past and future world champions, Calzaghe hasn't fought as many, many of the fighters Jones fought were very good fighters, Eric Harding, Julio Cesar Gonzalez, Clinton Woods etc. were all at one time or another in the top 5 of their division, add the fact that Jones was the naturally smaller guy against most of them and it's pretty impressive that he was not only able to beat them but beat them decisively and in some cases handed out one sided beatings.
Hopkins was green against Jones but then again he had a thyroid problem against Calzaghe, that probably evens it out a little.
Give Calzaghe a couple of more years when his reflexes slow down, you'll see him 'exposed'. Jones was going downhill from about the Eric Harding fight, the weight draining after moving up to heavyweight to beat Ruiz accelerated his downfall in my opinion.
And Calzaghe has his fair share of supposed 'bums of the month', Jones' weak chin is pretty ridiculous, considering he got hit flush by a legitimate heavyweight and went nowhere.
Yeah, great post dude, seriously.

Silencers is the truth. Not me, him. I'm done for the night, that basically summed it all up from my side.
and calzaghe never fought any bums? they all fought bums at some points of their careers. all great fighters have fought bums. it took 14 years for someone to beat Roy Jones. Remember that...
people lose eventually if you hang around long enough. Is Leonard not great because Terry Norris beat him at 35? (same age roy was beat at). Is Lennox Lewis not great, because he was Koed by Hasim Rahman in his prime? No.
Good point. But, Calzaghe has never been exposed. Give him the credit due to your own logic.
Who do you think was more shot? Mike aginst Jones or Jones against Calzaghe?
I think Jones is at about the same place McCallum was back then, Jones relied more on speed and reflexes so it may appear that he is more over the hill.
McCallum was done bro. Roy was coming off 3 wins and beat Trinidad in his last fight. On the balance of it and from the position of having seen that Jones-McCallum fight on several occasions I would say Mike was further gone. At least Roy still had a bit of snap left on his punches. McCallum was punching at about 30% is prime capacity that night.
yea i dont know what you are talking about. roy jones was shotter than gatti. he just stood there and did nothing the whole fight. definition of being shot. mccalum might have been slow but his brain was still intact unlike jones.
Maybe young James Toney swings it to Jones...by a little bit. But, there's a reasonable argument to make that the Hopkins that Jones defeated was not as good as the Hopkins that Calzaghe defeated. Hopkins aged like fine wine. IMO Hopkins v. Calzaghe was a battle of the titans, and Calzaghe won it fair and square and more convincingly than the Taylor/Hopkins bouts. Furthermore, Calzaghe dominated Kessler in the latter half of that fight. Kessler was prime and very good.
IMO Jones' greatness cannot be based strictly upon his resume. There are too many bum of the month fights. His greatness is mainly based on how visually impressive he was in his prime. I'll give him all that, plus the baggage of a weak chin, which is not insignificant. Why do people define Jones' prime as ending the split second before Antonio Tarver knocked him out? Doesn't make sense. Jones was eventually exposed. Calzaghe never was.

This demonstrates to me that you are posting on a topic on which you have no/limited knowledge. Please run through these bums and give mea reason as to why each was a bum.
McCallum was pretty over the hill by that point, McCallum a few years prior would have never lost to Fabrice Tiozzo.
Who do you think was more shot? Mike aginst Jones or Jones against Calzaghe?
wow sounds exactly like calzaghe when you put it that way

He deserves credit for staying undefeated all these years but Jones has faced the better opposition throughout his career IMO.

no one could be more shot than roy jones is why you pretending mccalum was. mccallum was at least fighting on the championship level losing a close decision to tiozo in germany. jones had been knocked out twice. how does joe get more credit for that? also mccallum lost a close decision to toney after he fought jones. you think jones could even compete with a younger toney now. no way.

How does 34(6)-0-0 compare to 46(32)-0-0? I wouldn't say they are similar at all, plus we know for a fact that Sven Ottke not only never came out of Germany, but was extremely protected, to the point of it being positively absurd. We have all seen Sven Ottke clearly losing fights and being awarded gifts.
wow sounds exactly like calzaghe when you put it that way
so does sven ottke. fitting him and calzaghe have similar records.
