I hate it when boxers hug during fights, which in turn makes it boring to watch..... but what pisses me off more is fighters who hug who have no reason to hug like:
jermain taylor: this guy could've really fucced lacy up but he chose to hold instead of jabbing him and moving to the side, and when he did do that he he hit lacy with like a 6 jab combo. He probably needs a stamina coach or something.
who could he be with out the holding: muhammad ali
bernard hopkins: gonna catch flack for this but he hugs to god damn much,
if bernard were to throw punches instead of hugging he would've beat joe (more convincingly lolz) but instead he hugs when doesnt need to.But bernard pisses me off more because he doesnt have stamina problems he just does it cause he can... beats me.
who could he be with out the holding: floyd mayweather....with power
They should make a rule that a boxer holding excesseively gets deducted 2 points, because shit like this is killing the great sport. been seeing it too often lately.
Jermain wasn't tired in this fight... Why would he be? He fought at a consistent, albeit reserved pace all night. He was talking between rounds without breathing heavily. Any holding on his part was defensive, to stop Lacy from getting any shots off up close. And lets not act like Lacy wasn't holding too. Remember, it was Jermain that was warned for pushing Lacy off, which I felt was out of frustration.
know what you mean but i think boxing needs a clean up crew
sort of like an evolution to the sport , the weak ones die off in favor of
fitter stronger men, they just need that one guy who would fight anybody anytime anywhere for any price, that one guy who is so ambitious to rise to the top he will fight bums, ex champions, legends, contenders, etc...
to rid the sport of the wannabes ( a la tyson in the late 80's)
you wanna clinch go do ufc
there are people like that. they usually have a few loses on their records as a result, and get written off as "bums" or (at best) "journeymen." obviously i disagree with that, but that's how it is.
the clinching had more to do with the contrasting styles in my opinion, but like i said in my other post, i thought jermain was putting together some really impressive combinations.
Believe me, no one goes into a boxing match with a plan to clinch and hug. When a boxer gets exhausted he will clinch. Its basically a tactic to rest in the middle of a round when you need to rest. When you are really tired, you are also easier to knock out, so not only do you want to rest, you want to close any kind of gap so he can't swing a full body power shot on you.
I hate hugging to but it will always happen.

i thought this was an entertaining, albeit one sided fight. i think jermain was more weary of lacy's power than anything. i don't think he was "carrying" lacy or anything like that. taylor was putting his punches together well.
That's why you put 2 Mexicans in the ring. You rarely see that.
I know, i dont want to seem racist but I think mexicans have SUPERB stamina
like its in their genes or something.
not saying blacks dont its just that us blacks have more variety in our genome structure.
but its like ALL mexicans fight hard and dont get tired. I remember at the gym i used to go to I used to get scared when the mexicans would spar with me,not because they were better boxers then me ( i would completely FUCC THEM UP the first couple of rounds) but because in the latter rounds (6th to 7th) I would be a punching bag because they would just keep coming.
which is why im not going pro.... hope to get nationals or something though!!
I agree, I think Taylor could have had Lacey stopped in the 3rd round. But he clinched purposely when Lacey was hurt.
i dont know if he's having flashbacks to kelly pavlik, you know he had him hurt went for the kill and then got fucced up in the long run.
well i think thats what boxing needs at this moment because this fight pissed me off, if he had lacy hurt go for the kill dont sit there and try jab him.
dont get me wrong you shouldnt wear yourself out but throw a combination or something dont just get the guy hurt and then throw a jab, body flurry, then hold on to him like hes your last relative.
