Recently quoted on pnj.com, Jones Jr's manager McGee Wright discussed the Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones Jr fight, in which Calzaghe won by unanimous decision. Wright stated to the publication: "When Roy dropped Joe he got out of his game plan. He started looking for too many big shots instead of working and staying busy, and that's really why he lost." Wright believes Jones Jr was one punch away from victory the entire fight, stating: "Roy was one punch away the whole night. I think the cut bothered him a lot and it really never stopped bleeding." Wright also had a message to fans on behalf of Roy Jones Jr.: "He's disappointed, sure, but I think he mostly just wants to let everyone know that he's OK and he'll be OK.
