Just wondering, since they say Roy in his prime would destroy Calzaghe when in my opinion I think it would have been a close fight since Roy never fought someone as fast as Calzaghe and has the reflexes of Calzaghe. The same goes with Joe, but still I think it would have been a close fight. And I don't think anyone would have been knocked out, I think it would have went to the score cards.
Is it just me, or did Calzaghe and Hopkins both hit there primes later in there careers? Roy might have been able to rape younger Calzaghe because was younger Calzaghe as good as he is today?
Yes i agree that both Hopkins and Calzaghe hit their primes in their mid 30's.
When people say a prime Jones would beat Joe they mean prime for prime Jones beats Calzaghe. It would be unfair to have a prime Jones against a young Calzaghe/Hopkins,etc.
Most of the Roy fans on Boxingscene are nationalist morons
Calzaghe beats any version of Roy
The pathetic haters need to show some respect
Roy Jones is Calzaghe's bitch!!!!
no one in right mind thinks that..
I wouldn't call them "ignorant," but I do think that Roy Jones fans, in general, tend to get a bit blinded by the hype. The vast majority of Jones' opponents were certified tomato cans, regardless of their rankings, so I really don't get why so many people declare with complete certainty that a prime RJJ would dominate Calzaghe. I don't think that Joe Calzaghe is the ATG that many people seem to think he is, but he is a fast, fearless and solid fighter, so I can't see how any objective fight fan could say that this match-up wouldn't have been highly competitive ten years ago. I could imagine either fighter winning in '98. I suspect that many RJJ fans did not actually sit through the unending string of meaningless defenses against the Eric Harding's, David Telesco's, and Bryant Brannon's of the boxing world. Maybe they've just seen the YouTube highlight clips and failed to realize who the opponent was. Anybody who was around during his reign ought to remember how HBO coddled Jones for several years allowing him to feed on one no-hoper after another. As he should have, Jones dominated those guys. Along the way, he didn't miss an opportunity to declare himself P4P best and disparage genuine P4P contenders like JC Chavez, ODLH, Mosely and MAB; fighters who actually sought out and fought the best fighters in their respective divisions (and, yes, occasionally lost).
im not watching your stupid documentary....i dont need some british expert being all biased alright? eubank....LOL that guy is a farud just like calzaghe....an overhyped brit once again......lets face it everytime one of your brit fighters come to america they get exposed.....HOPKINS...exposed calzaghe like mayweather exposed hatton....yes calzaghe beat roy jones but what kind of roy jones? one who only won against a trinidad who hasnt fought in 3 yrs......had he fought the jones 6 yrs ago you would be on your ass crying like a bitch GET OVER IT

i think Calzaghe's always been very smart.....i'm sure it has improved as he got older, but it's not a discernible difference
- yes, he's been known to get caught up in machismo spurred brawls and petty taunting matches, but i feel he's just as susceptible to that now as he's ever been
just like i don't think he's lost any determination and heart as he's gotten older
Calzaghe circa 2005 is Calzaghe in his prime... respectable power, speed, ring smarts, heart, work-rate, defense and chin - perfectly rounded fighter... looked a lot less like an old lady trying to get her handbag back off a mugger too
That's what I'm saying. I'm just saying he's smarter nowadays, but that's to be expected anyways cause he's way more experienced.

Chatting with T, Clegg and Danc, were actually a tad worried about badge. He was a prolific poster on here, spent hours a day all over the various forums. Suddenly disapeared without so much as a word or even sign in since. Definitely out of character he'd know a few folk would worry. No ones got a contact detail oddly, Dan's idea was to pm BPP to email him, it's puzzling anyway as I consider him the best Calzaghe fan on here period and top fella.
I know he wanted a better moderated NSB but it as this thread shows, there's still a lot of good fair posters about.
LOL cazaghe had power.....this dumbass must be from wales....hahahahaha
Nope. Born in the USA. Foolio.
Ask Eubank about Joe's power. Here was a guy who fought The Dark Destroyer himself TWICE and after fighting Joe said it was the hardest he'd been hit in his life. Hence, Eubank was on his back within 30 seconds of their fight.
Proof? Watch this documentary.

Younger Calzaghe wasn't as smart, he was extremely aggressive and always wanted to make fights into wars. On the other hand, he was always a skilled brawler. One thing that younger Calzaghe had (pre-injured hands) was plenty of power, so what he lacked in smarts (not saying he was never smart, in fact the opposite is true) he made up for with power and sheer determination.

I selected only a few, seems the only reasonable choice. There is quite a few band wagon RJJ fans that aren't really that insightful on opponents likely chances. Some just say RJJ is unbeatable and that's it. Look at the recent poll of prime Calzaghe Jones, when I last looked approx 50% selecred RJJ KO. RJJ could not KO lesser opponents with weaker chins. So there's clearly a lot whom will always say he's un beatable and exaggerate.
Despite this it might seems there's more moronic Calzaghe fans recently as now it's high time for him.
One thing I hate is people on here whom write of entire groups of fans for a fighter. To say all fans are bad is just a discraceful generalisation and way more are guilty of it on Calzaghe then on RJJ. I will say that. I respect a lot of RJJ fans on these boards though, notably Reed, Chunk, Danc, RJJ the Truth amongst others. We need abadger back :(
You and abadger were a tag team not to be messed with when it came to a topic evolving 'Calzaghe'.
I miss abadger.

Jones fans can be as biased as any other fan of a particular fighter. Yes, occasionally they say stupid shit, but most of them have a right to be proud of Roy. Being a Jones fan myself, I can understand why people love him. Roy is a great guy and amazing fighter.
I agree with your post -- Roy vs. Joe would always have been competitive and I'd say it would have most likely gone to the score cards.

i think most hardcore fanbases of fighters have an element of people stubborn/ignorant in regards to their favourite's rivals, and RJJ's hardcore fans are no different - and neither are Calzaghe's
objectivity is a difficult thing to achieve, especially when it seems as though people have a bigger interest in individual boxers than the sport as a whole
No not really.
Most Big roy fans i have meet on here appear to be pretty nice.
Truth and Reed being examples.
I think to say Jones would dominate Calzaghe in his prime isn't that bad really because as someone stated earlier its what Jones did to his opponents although to be fair most weren't on the level of Calzaghe.
I feel Jones would of beat Joe decisively, not dominating though.
