I still think Roy loses but i think his plan was to use the style he used against Tito which was to cover up and try and walk Calzaghe down. Even Emanuel Steward thought that was the style Roy would use. In the 3rd round he was using it and coming forward while covering up. Even though Calzaghe was throwing combos many of the shots were blocked. I think Roy planned on trying to wear Calzaghe down with body shots while coming forward with his hands up, but once he got cut he abandoned that tactic and style.
Roy Jones Needs To Retire
I'm a Roy Jones Jr. fan but he sold me, his fans, and the fight as if he was back to his old self. He promoted a music video did 24/7 on HBO that showed him preparing with all his supporters. Roy Jones is a shot fighter that was shot by Tarver and damaged by Glen Johnson. His weight loss from Heavyweight to Light-Heavyweight was done foolishly by starving himself instead of working it off in the ring. He has paid a price that has killed his CONFIDENCE which in turn has created a SELF DOUBT within himself. Roy knows that he is DAMAGE GOODS as a fighter, but has used his name to keep himself afloat the boxing scene with hopes of getting everyone to believe that he is the Roy Jones of old. Roy Jones supporters that are close to him (Coach Merk, Family, Friends, and Overall Big Roy) need to tell him that he is not the SAME FIGHTER AND IS EMBARASSING HIMSELF AND THE SPORT at this stage of his career despite the strain that could come to their personal relationships. I know I will get feedback on this, but true Roy Jones fans are thinking what I'm saying. Much Respect due !!!!!
Joe put his head right up to Jones face as early as round 2.
yeah he did that just to taunt roy to try to knock him out again...guess roy really has slower reflexes or just lost his confidence after that taunting and joe's great defense..
Be honest due I remember him dropping his hands before the cut and both of them doing retarded dances in front of each other. I was laughing when they were doing that but don't remember him actually leaning his head on the forearms until after Roy was cut. Anyway HBo will be replaying the fight this Saturday I will watch to see what round and if Roy was or was not cut before he did what I am talking about. Either way I like to think Roy couldnt see him because if he just didn't throw a punch in fear of getting hit back then that is really bad....Lefty

You're a blind idiot if you believe Roy gave his all against Joe. He was content to sit right in front of Joe and keep his hands up and not even attempt to land punches when Joe was sticking his chin right up at him. If that ain't milking your fans for money I don't know what is.
It wasn't as pathetic as his 3rd fight with Tarver but it was close sans the first round.
Actually when Roy came forward in a aggressive manner with his hands up he tried to block and counter to the body and got caught with 3 straight shots back. One of the members on here has a clip in there signature of when Calzaghe stuck his chin out and Roy attempted 3 hooks and he looked as slow as 1994 George Foreman on those hooks. So when Calzaghe stuck his chin out, Roy was to slow to reach him.
When your old and your reflexes are shot its not easy to just say heeeey hit him when your not confident in your speed anymore.
Might as well say Ray Leonard quit against Terry Norris. The more aggressive Ray got the closer he was to getting knocked out so he just started surviving. Roy was still coming forward but his reflexes are just gone. He had a hard time landing punches even when he tried.
Watch the end of the 1st round after he stuns Calzaghe. Look at how slow he looks when he tried to open up.
Scroll up and look at Ricky's signature on this page. Roy did try and throw punches when Joe was right there, but look at how slow Roy is.
He did that before Roy was cut.

Joe was sticking his chin under Roy's from the start of the fight, as soon as R1 possibly infact. Roy did often try and land but it was so close it's awkward to, plus as Roy recognised pre fight, Calzaghes the fasted guy I'd have faced. So Joe had the quick reflexes and reactions to get out of there as soon as Roy did throw. And Roy did throw especially after a few times, but he wasn't quick enough usually so timed it better at other times on the whole. He did get Joe a few goodens when Joe was doing this. Richie Woodhall commented on one, Joe gave him that one.
what puzzled me so was when Joe would lean his haed on Roy's forearms and Roy would not fire and uppercut. Not fire odd nothing. The only thing I can think is that Roy couldn't asee very well with the blood all over his face.
He did that before Roy was cut.

Jones had lost 5 or possibly 6 rounds by the time he got cut.
The outcome would have been no different if he wasn't cut.

Yup, he was choosing to not hit Joe and instead be hit. Genius.
Could it be he was trying to hit him as you can clearly see he did several times. That firstly leaves your arrogant statement invalid. Furthermore that he sometimes didn't continue to because he in his own words "couldn't get at him" as most can't, because he's such an elusive target.
It would not have been much different without the cut, he was fading and only just keeping up with Joe as was Hopkins and we know what happened there. Roy could have KO'd Tito late on but didn't, it's unlikely he'd choose to get hit all nite then look to KO a tough chinned guy, when your own stamina is way worse so it hinders you more then your opponent.
I second what was posted above Roy did infact try to hit Joe but what puzzled me so was when Joe would lean his haed on Roy's forearms and Roy would not fire and uppercut. Not fire odd nothing. The only thing I can think is that Roy couldn't asee very well with the blood all over his face. Seeing how Roy has never been cut in a fight and that was a nasty cut it defintely affected his performance. Whether he could have beat him if he had not been cut well we will never know. To speculate I would say unless he got in a good left hook or straqight right hand the straight right he had not been able to land all night I might add. the straight right that he attempted to land and was countered n all night I might add. I don't see it going any other way. it might just have not looked as bad if he were not bleeding like a stuck pig the last 5 or 6 rounds....Lefty

When Joe was leaning looking up at Roy like as if he was saying hey Roy I am here are you? Ya'll musta forgot about Super Joe...Lol I don't have answers but until I am cut that badily and fighting one of the top if not the TOP P4P fighter in the world I can't really say what was going on in roy's head. Maybe he was thinking oh shit I am cut real bad I can't see this f#cker much less hit him. let me keep my hands up protect my chin and finish out the 12 rounds. let me not get Ko'd or not throw the towel in I am f@cking Roy Jones I can take this s@it!!!.....Lefty
I dont see how he's milking anyone for money. If someone is beating you to the punch when you attempt to get aggressive and your old what can you do. Keep getting countered and knocked out. Going out on your back is never a good thing.

Wouldn't of mattered. He was pretty much gun shy the entire fight and was scared to pull the trigger. He's done. He should never set foot inside a ring again because it's plainly obvious he's not interested in really fighting anymore. All he cares about is milking his fans for money.
