I'm watching the DVD of the fight again (The offical one, with all the build up ect.)
It's a shame we won't get to see a fight like that for awhile (With the hype, build up and everything) What do you think will be the next fight that could match it? I'm thinking if Hatton beats Paulie well and then Pacman somehow beats Oscar those 2 fighting would be HUGE.
I'd still love to see Mayweather back, love him or hate him you can't deny he isn't a good fight seller.
On the fight itself, Mayweather fought a great fight but jesus christ...go and watch the first round somewhere and count how mant times Cortez breaks them up (I'm not saying this as a Hatton fan, i could see he got beat by the better boxer) The one that really annoys me is about 10seconds after Hatton rocked Floyd (1st round) He goes in again and literally as soon as they came together they were split up, wtf was that all about? I've always been taught that's part of boxing (Not holding on for ages, but coming together for a lil bit)
Anyways, i just really hope we can have a fight like that sometime in my lifetime and hopefully soon as it's what boxing really needs.
the next fight like this could be klitschko-haye... most probably they are going to end up havin a trilogy or somethin cuz of their glass chins lol. 1st fight in englad, 2nd in germany, 3rd and final one in new york to settle everythin down lol
this fight was awesome...two undefeated PRIME fighters agaisnt each other...and after the brits boo'd our national anthem and floyd mayweather came out to "born in the u.s.a" and straight whipped their boys ****ing ARSE, i was smiling for a long time after that fight. made me feel good inside
cortez was too active and got in the middle too quickly, but imo they were clinched and tied up thats why he stepped in. after the third round he let them go to work more. the point deduction was questionable, but hatton was frustrated with floyd and tried to hit him to the back of the head.
was cortez a little too involved? ya, but i didnt think he did the horrible job many did. would it have changed anything? no. was PBF ever rocked in the fight? no ****ing way.
woulda been so much better without cortez ,,,floyd woulda still won but teh fight woulda been more exciting
That's about right. Cortez's performance was an irritant, but ultimately Floyd won because he's the better fighter.
One of the best build ups ive seen,i remember after the weigh in i was HYPED,the only fight that will capture the public imagination like Floyd-Hatton/Floyd DLH is Mayweather vs Pacman, that would be a HUGE event
By the way, the reason why Cortez broke them up was because Floyd would often tie Hatton up when he got in close. If no one is throwing punches, in a clinch, then you're going to get broken up, sorry that's boxing.
What's even funnier is that half way through the fight you hear Roger tell Floyd in the corner "Floyd, **** it, you can beat him on the inside too, you dont got to back away from this mother****er"
The hype was insane over here. It was funny because i was the only one who knew Mayweather would win, the rest were just dumbass casual fans who think Ricky Hatton is the best thing since sliced bread.
That was the smartest thing floyd did in that fight. The plan was FORCING the ref to break them up. Here's how he did it. He knew ricky liked to hit and hold and what he did differently than other opponents ricky had was to tie him up HALTING the action. This worked perfectly.
Wait... so Floyd cheated to win?
Only fight I could seein getting the hype like that would be Hatton v Witter. Witter would play the Mayweather role and people of England wouldn't like him.
has Haye's fight even been hyped in the papers yet? not read any this week.
Nobody seem to be hyping up the Haye fight yet to be honest, Hatton/Witter would have done a lot but now after both had lost their titles...Hatton/Witter could have been the biggest hyped domestic grudge fight in the UK since Benn/Eubank but the risk was too much for Hatton.
i was getting seriously heated in some discussions with people who were buying into the massive Hatton tabloid hype before the fight
seeing him kiss the turnbuckle was a great feeling.....my mate sent a text on the day of the fight saying "Floyd's losing his composure, i think Hatton's gonna do him you know!" and i still rub it in his face to this day lol
I have the video on my laptop and everytime i feel down i was play it and it puts a smile on my face, Some of the Hatton fanatics were the worst bunch of fan i have ever seen.., I could excuse most of the people who didnt know nothing about boxing in my area like my newsagent who was picking Hatton because he read how Hatton KO castillo and Mayweather couldnt do it in 24 rounds.....I just laugh and told him to keep his money in his pocket instead of betting on Hatton.
Mayweather really got into Hatton's head with all this little stunts that he pulled and they all seem to work in rifling Hatton by fight night and played a big part in him getting KO.
If you're from England then the hype was over the f**king top, If you're from the UK and you know your boxing then you would know Hatton stands NO chance.

It was a great event and both fighter played their part in building up the fight and i doubt we would ever see another fight/event with so much hype like this one ever.

Yeah the bild up to the fight in the UK was huge. I remember been in the pub and everyone was sayin instead of goin a club or two they was goin house parties to watch the fight. Everyone in the pub was saying how Hatton was gonna kill floyd etc. I think the was only me and some fella who had seen Floyd box. I can't remember a fight been so build up in the papers too. it was backpage, frontpage in almost every paper. Can't believe has been nearly a year since the fight htough.
anyone got links to the 24/7 episodes? so far the best I have seen.
the fight turned out to be, in reality, a mismatch... (not for Hatton's faults, but Mayweather's greatness)
but the EVENT and the HYPE was a rare spectacle... in fact i don't think in my years of following boxing i've seen many, if any, fights with such a buzz surrounding it (maybe cos i live in England).....it's a shame that only a big Hatton fight can have that impact over here.....maybe a massive heavyweight clash also
The thing about Hatton - Mayweather was it got the normal person intrested. I remember being in town waiting to get in a club the night before the fight and everyone in the que was singing 'THERE'S ONLY ONE RICKY HATTON!' it was crazy! everyone was talking about it, everyone was watching it.
Floyd played his part in the build up (Playing the cocky, hated knob) I'm pretty sure it's all an act, you see him on that dancing programmee/on interviews outside of boxing/when he aint got a fight coming up and he seems to be a decent guy however he hypes the fights real good (gets everyone hating him, therefore people buy it in hope of seeing him kod) though i think he can go ott (go watch that footage where floyd and ricky meet in the cafe...it was quite cringeworthy watching him acting up.
Here's some of the footage, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUqI_3bST_g
There's another couple minutes on the DVD and he acts real stupid, it was embarrasing.
yeah,i thought the whole Hatton v Mayweather event was huge!!!...certainly the biggest i've witnessed in my life-time. i watched the fight again the other day too and it makes u wonder when you'll ever see such a fight on a huge scale like that again!! no matter what people think of Ricky as a fighter, there is no denying his fan-base pisses on every other fighter in the world!!! there will be 20,000 Hatton fans in Vegas again when he fights Paulie.....and if he ever fights at Wembley Stadium he'll fill it easy. can u imagine....100,000 lads!!!!!! P.s. i've heard Noel Gallagher is carrying his Ring belt in too.....he needs to enter the arena to 'Cigarettes and Alcohol' i reckon!!!!!!!!!!
