If James Toney was able to get down to atleast 175 could he beat Calzaghe? Taking into consideration his chin, defense and overall skill set?
Please leave Burger King comments somewhere else.
Thanks.
I love both Toney and Calzaghe as fan of the sport, but this thread is ridiculous. Toney has enough trouble as it is staying shy of ****ing 275 ****ing points.
Also, remember Chris Byrd? Physical problems aside, Byrd couldn't handle the speed down at 175...and the dude that beat him wasn't exactly speed demon. 175 speed would probably be jarring for Toney at this point, even though he once fought (long ago) around Calzaghe's weight. And Calzaghe is faster than many lightweights for cryin out load.
Calzaghe swarms, Toney eats a million little punches, Joe walks off with another easy UD.
Prime for prime, it would have been an excelent fight...and I would probably give Toney the edge. Even so, it would be a close close fight.
YES! James Toney interviews are the BEST. Last night I finally watched his latest NC fight with Rahman. The interview after was priceless... he was calling out the Klitchko sisters and what not.
The interview was more entertaining then the fight itself
toney aint getting down to 175, your crazy
but hypothetically if he could, he would make a fool of calzaghe, he would slip, roll and counter all day and take calzaghes weapons away from him, someone should ask james this question, his response would be classic

Oh sorry man, I forgot to send you me thanks.
I was thrilled.:luvbed:
And it's all true BTW.
He did me in the alley behind the Brixton Academy. I'll never forget that night!
Prime 4 Prime
Toney would beat him..
Toney would have to adjust at first b/c he isn't so great against southpaws, but he would counter and outbox that ****..
Toney would be so smooth if he fought Calzaghe now he would make him look amaurish, wih his D alone letting Joe get in close like RJJ did but then just going to work with the roll straight rights and counterlefts!
Calzaghe would through close to 1000 punches.
I dont care how effective they are... when you through that much you get the decision. period.
I would find it entertaining watching Toney's ummmm 'Robust' body rolling the flurries though, lol.
