If we're talking in terms of legacy, then Bernard Hopkins hands down!
Floyd hasn't came close to Bernard's accomplishments IMO. This is what Bernard has done:
A record holding 20 titles defenses in the middleweight (160 lbs.) division, has knock out wins over other great fighters like Felix Trinidad & Oscar De La Hoya (Floyd failed to knock Oscar out), has recorded 47 wins & 32 by knock out, and went up two weights and beat the best light heavyweight of that time for the light heavyweight title, Antonio Tarver (even Ray Robinson failed to do that). Lost a close fight to Calzaghe and he but in a scarily good performance against America's next hope, undefeated middleweight champ Kelly Pavlik. For this era it doesn't get any better then that folks!
I'm not a massive fan of his but he has one of the best resumes in the history of this sport!
When you think about it, it's really not that close at all.
Hopkins by a landslide.
Floyd never even faced a serious Welterweight.
The greatest of ths era have been: Hopkins, Jones, Mayweather, and Calzaghe.
Depending on whoever you place Hopkins at #1 or Roy at #1.
Mayweather is 3rd, and Calzaghe is 4th.
The list changes a bit when you go back the last 15 years though and have to add names such as Morales, Barrera, De La Hoya, Mosley, Whittaker, etc.......
What makes his legacy better?
He has more quality opponents and keeps on fighting. He never stopped in the middle of his career like Floyd, he could have quit before beating Tarver, but he didn't.
MAYWETHER.
Floyd had the better boxing ability and athletic ability to beat every type of style, while Hopkins, would always lose to someone like Roy.
And I hate to keep saying it because Hopkins is from Philly, but he avoided Roy for a reason. When he moved up to LH and won the title, he beat a deflated Tarver, the same way Tarver beat a deflated Roy Jones Jr.
I give him credit for teaching Pavlik a lesson and the rest of his career when he fought actual Middle-weights...and not Tito and Oscar, even though the Tito win was very good.
Hopkins, greater legacy. Overall I would say Floyd is maybe the more complete fighter, but Hopkins has accomplished a bit more.
