I saw another thread that said that Calzaghe made a fool of himself by taunting jones and all that.
I think that is calzaghe's style, he always has fought that way, but imo he overdid it a bit so that it didn't become so obvious he was pulling his punches. At the end i really think he could have ko jones.
The reason he did this was because of the huge respect calzaghe has for jones. He didn't want to see jones end his career on the canvas as helpless as he was with tarver.
Anyone else thinks this??
Btw Calzaghe is an awesome fighter, but still jones is the goat!!! :P
Someone said to me yesterday do you think they had a gentlemans agreement that they wouldnt knock each other out in the fight and I said dont talk bollox but I watched again in the afternoon and i think that they could be on to something.
Roy seemed to totally lay off Joe after the knockdown and didnt go in for the kill at all.
When Joe had Roy on the ropes, Roy was blowing out of his arse but Joe didnt go in for the kill.
I think these 2 shook hands before hand and agreed not to knock each other out so that whoever lost could continue on with there career.
Despite what anyone says these 2 fighters havehuge respect for each other and both were gentleman outside the ring and they both played up to the crowd at some point during the fight.
Watch the fight again and tell me that something hasnt been agreed before this fight, what do you think????
Joe said he hurt his left hand in the 8th round.
I was wondering why he was so aggressive up until the 8th, and didn't seem to try to stop him after that.
That makes sense I didn't see a ahrd left after the 8th or 9th round most were just pitty pats with the lefts but he kept ripping the right to the body all night....Lefty
I think that once Roy was cut, Joe knew he had the fight won and went into cruise control. Whether it was in respect for Roy or for his own safety is another matter.
I think both were factors. Joe and his Dad seem to have more respect for Jones as a person and a fighter than most fighters they have had to deal with. Calzaghe is truly one of the best fighters I've ever seen. He desreves the respect for that whether some want to fully give that to him or not.
Calzaghe didn't KO RJJ because of the huge respect he has for him?
So how you do account for all the spastic manouvres he pulled when fighting a shot legend with one working eye?
because he is cocky, but that doesnt mean he doesnt respect his opponent.
