I would consider myself a Calzaghe fan but his actions in the ring last night were petulant to say the least. Keeping his hands down, backing up from Roy, walking away from him and taunting him when he knew Roy's stamina was done. If Joe was as good as his antics would lead you to believe he should have knocked out or stopped Jones.
Ok, I could understand Joe acting like this with a prime Roy or if Roy was not exhausted, but to me this reaked of over zealousness, arrogance and disrespect.
Roy was the more dignified of the two fighters. Fair enough he didn't have the cardio requirements, but he fought a great fight. Even with his eye badly cut he soldiered on like the true warrior he is.
Yea, I see what you mean, because I'm supposed to read each and every thread to check to see who threw you a bottle.
Quit your ****ing crying already.
Had Jones been the victor, he'd have put on a bigger display of showboating and would be receiving absolutely NO criticism from anyone.
You fail. Again.
Yep. I read every single post of this thread before I posted.
My post wasn't personally aimed at you, although it seems you are at least partly conditioned. It was aimed at general Calzaghe haters.
LOL I'm a Calzaghe fan.
Cool. I understand what you're saying. I did not mean this thread as Calzaghe hate, I was trying to put across my point that I was dissappointed with his antics against a shot legend.

The only fool was Jones trying to show off like Calzaghe & lets not forget Jones done it in all his fights so Calzaghe as every right to do what he wants because his the P4P in the world & P4P best fighter of the decade & P4P 1 of the best MDS OFATG + LH & the best SM since the division was amalgamated into the pros
Another retard who can't read. And you're slow on the bottle joke.

All I can say is make no mistake if RJJ was up at any point during that fight you would have seen all of this coming from RJJ along with all the whooping and showboating he was doing against Trinidad a few months ago.
Still think these guys had a chat before the fight and agreed not to knock each other out.
Did you even read my posts?? :bottle::bottle:

Look we all know Roy did it to fighters before. That doesn't make Joe's antics any more appealing. Roy was f****d he wasn't going to win the fight, rather than going about his business and winning in a gracious way, Joe mocked Roy.
Let's not forget how a big of an icon Roy is/was and this may well have been his last fight, Joe prancing around like that took the sheen of the end to an amazing career.
"Flashy, its not just a fad"
STFU and suck it :bottle:
Dawson!? Three weeks ago it was Pavlik! 8 months ago it was Hopkins! A year ago it was Kessler! 18 months earlier it was Lacy!
If Calzaghe fought and beat Dawson there'd be another undefeated young fighter that if only Calzaghe would fight he would get your respect...
Calzaghe could beat a tag team partnership of Superman and the Incredible Hulk and you'd still find ways of discrediting it!
Its laughable really isnt it? No Calzaghe fan is saying that this fight was an incredible victory that should hold Joe up as the greatest fighter of all time. But trying to discredit the guy because of fights that he WON and having never lost is utterly pathetic. Joe has fought everyone he could whenever he could, a number of them out of his prime too and he has won each and every single one of them.
Pathetic thread.
It's always the same with anything to do with Calzaghe though. Whatever he has done, whatever he's doing and whatever he will ever do, it just won't be good enough for some people. He gets a constant barrage of shitty criticism all the fucking time. Double standards everywhere.
It's ok for Muhammad Ali to showboat, it's ok for Sugar Ray Leonard to showboat, it's ok for Roy Jones Jr to showboat and it's ok for countless other lesser fighters to showboat as well, but it isn't ok for Joe Calzaghe. Same thing with fighting a few bums. For someone like Jones, it was just him being massively better, but for Calzaghe it was him picking on the helpless. If Roy Jones says he can't be beat, he's being charmingly arrogant, but how dare that Euro-bum Calzaghe show a little self-belief!
It's a psychological issue for some boxing fans who, American or not, have been conditioned in the superiority of American at the bigger weights. Sure, the Mexicans can have the the low weight classes, but welterweight upwards is American soil! I even understand why people have become conditioned this way, because history does reflect American superiority. No doubt about it. It's just beyond comprehension that a European fighter can be in the same league as an American great to these people.
I aint even saying Joe Calzaghe is as good as the fighters I've mentioned and I believe a prime Roy Jones Jr would have won a fight against Calzaghe, but I'm fucking sick of the treatment he gets. It isn't fair.
Did you even read my posts?? :bottle::bottle:
Haha! True. Hopefully Joe will retire. Dawson will have 2/3 big fights and make a big name for himself then Joe will fight him at the end of 2009 or early 2010.
I want to like Joe but just cant. He's so ****ing cocky. Until he beats somebody of note i'm not gonna jump on his dick the way alot of people have.
All Calzaghe fans must know that Hopkins or Jones would have kicked Joe's ass 5 years ago.
So why didn't Jones or Bernard fight him then?
Last I checked, it was Joe who crossed the pond for a fight.
A fight that could have happened years ago.
Yes, that was all showbizz for Calzaghe. But i still wanna see him against the young undefeated CHAMPION Dawson. Now that's a meaningful fight. And one Zaghe can't win. And prolly won't happen because of it.

Excessive Showboating?
Truth, I understand you're mad because you're a fan. Putting your hands behind your back and then knocking a man out is mocking him to the highest level. I'm SURE you enjoyed that. Status doesnt matter.
I'm just saying, pot calling the kettle black and all that. I dont particularly enjoy guys showboating all the time either.
yeah but that's the thing ... at least Jones put the f*cker outta his misery and ended the fight
where Cal's showboating just went on and on round after round ... how tedious.
I mean you said yourself that you don't enjoy guys showboating all the time
and sure Roy did showboat some in the fight, but IMO Calzaghe's end of it seemed to go more or less the rest of the fight.
Pathetic thread.

Exactly who does he have to beat in your estimation? Bear in mind that he doesn't have a time machine so prime Ray Robinson is out of the question.
He beat EVERYBODY at super middleweight. He moved up to fight p4p rated Hopkins and he won. He then fought a cash fight against Jones. You might make the claim that if Calzaghe beat, for example, Dawson, then he'd have your respect but frankly I don't think I would believe you. Calzaghe in particular has been a guy who has received criticism after every single win, regardless of which way the wind was blowing. Hopkins was too old, Lacy was too young, Kessler was too Danish... If Calzaghe was to fight Dawson next saturday then next Sunday Dawson was never any good, and that's just the bottom line.
It's true, people have been ignorantly bashing Joe for so long that they are afraid to swallow their words and admit his class. Apart from Mizzou that is.
I don't get that, Jones would have done the same thing, he's been doing the same thing for years, 1 fight like that from Calzaghe and he gets criticism.

It's because it's out of character for Joe, I'm pissed off from a Calzaghe fan's perspective not a Roy's fan perspective.
I'm not so sure it was out of character. Calzaghe has a nasty streak in him and he shows it by doing to his opponent what his opponent threatened to do to him. He did it to Hopkins by pretending to bum him, he did it to Lacy by outmuscling him, he did it to Jones by out-showboating him.
to me it matters if its against a great fighter on the way down. I hope Trevor Berbick did not taunt Ali when he beat Ali.
What's the difference though? It's equally disrespectful whether you're doing it to a limited journeyman or an aging ex-champ.
