Joe v Hopkins rematch in Wales?

It might be stating the obvious but had he taken his first chance he wouldn't need a second one (and none of the fantasy 'wrong result' crap, please). That said, I agree that a final-fight Hopkins rematch (in Cardiff) is the only fight that would make any sense for Calzaghe. He's the only other fighter in the division who is proven to be in Calzaghe's league, the last fight was close and Hopkins is a true legend. At present, Dawson is just another contender.. just like Pavlik was before BHop showed him how to box. I can agree with you that Hopkins didn't take full advantage of his first opportunity against Calzaghe, and that's something he has to live with. That said I do think he split that fight 6 rounds to Joe's 6 rounds, which would've earned him the 114-113 decision that Byrd scored. But I won't argue over the previous bout, because it's done and over with. And I agree about Dawson, I think Joe would have a much easier time with him than he would rematching Hopkins without question.

But this is all just talk, Joe wants nothing to do with Hops ever again and I can't say I blame him. He'll either retire or fight some other unknown in Wales before ever giving 'Nard his second chance. No to mention the win over Pavlik, an undefeated Champion 17 years his Junior. Or the fact that most around here seem to think Hopkins has the better legacy these days. Or the fact that even at 43 years of age Hopkins continues to win big fights, hasn't been hurt in 14 years and has never been KO'd, and nearly all of his losses were razor thin split decisions or UD's that could've gone either way. I could go on and on, but Bernard outlasted and outperformed Roy. The records will show this.

And furthermore, Hopkins is having his redemption for the Jones loss without even having to fight Roy again. Joe was lucky to get a disputed SD win over Bernard, where Roy was completely mangled and embarassed for 11 rounds. Not to mention Hopkins schooled the guy who schooled Roy 3 times (Tarver, the first fight wasa gift for Roy). If that's not redemption I don't know what is.

I doubt Joe would even take the rematch if Bernard agreed to fly to wales for it. He'd just chalk it up like "I already beat that guy", and move on.
