I think you may be taking it out of context a little there. Roy is not a super human, he has normal ribs, and normal skin. Kesslers a very muscley fit young guy whom hasn't been hurt often either, to hurt him with one body shot near the liver shows Calzaghe could hurt most if not all guys in the same way if caught right. You can't expect to get hit on the liver the same pace, one fit guy in his prime is hurt, the next man nearly 40 is completely fine. Come on. Basic physics has to be factored in. It's definitely possible if he landed hard and accurate on a key spot. Likely, no, but possible.
Also, if ones saying hurt, ones not saying TKO or KO. Just hurt.
Ddue some absorb punishment and have a higher thresh hold for pain in certain areas of their bodies. Ali took punches to the body that would have crippled most fighters. look at Ward Gatti I round 9 and the body shots that Gatti took. Then look at Hopkins ODLH and that one shot crippled ODLH. Jone can take body shots for real his chin is suspect but his mid section is always in tremendous shape 40 or 20 he is in great shape. he may not have the reflexes or hand speed like he used too but he is still pretty damn fast. if he worked on his guard and keeps his hands up picks off punches rather then keeping his hands low and trying to dodge them he can protect his chin. Joe can slap at him all he wants and Roy will counter Joe. I am not saying Joe can't win all I am saying is it is not going to be an easy fight for either of them. Joe's skapping ways are not going to hurt Roy. On the other hand if Roy lets his hands go he can hurt Joe.
Joe seems to be able to punch harder going to the body these days.
I think I could take a running fly-kick at Roy's midriff and not hurt him.
So no. Joe can't punch at all anymore. I'd love it if he proved me wrong.
No one here knows whether Roy Jones is shot or not. Simple. We can alla gree that he is well past his prime and far more fragile than ever. Roy Jones is just not the same fighter. But we won't know how much he hast left until the bell rings and that, more than all this talk, will determine what kind of props Calzaghe would get for beating him. BTW, both fighters look very, very confident.
Roy is shot. He's been that way for a while. Joe's fans just pump him up now to make Joe's easy win seem epic and to build up Joe. It's a lame transparent tactic.
On the other hand, one could suggest Jones is shot. A suggestion which could be considered disrespectful to Joe Calzaghe's fans and Joe himself (should Joe win), and which also could be seen by some as somewhat of a transparent putdown?

Can he? Yeah over the course of a fight he can, but not with a single punch. Will he? Tough to say. I think he has a good chance if Roy's legs slow him down later in the fight.
That was a stupid statement by a bias poster.
Kessler was hurt to the body, right? And he has been a SMW for his whole career.
Have you ever seen Jones hurt to the body? Nope.
He took clean, harder shots from Tito and smiled about it.
Joe does not have the power to hurt Roy, especially @ LHW. None of his punches affected Hopkins whatsoever. His workrate was the only thing.
I don't care who you are for, this fight will not end with Rjj being hurt. I gaurantee that. It will have to be a decision win for Calzaghe if he wins.
In reference to people saying that he will go all out since he is not trying to save his hands:
I hope he does. He will use more energy and still will not hurt Roy while possibly hurting his hand early and being forced to fight Jones one handed. That would be something , would'nt you say. Jones by KO/TKO if Joe hurts his hand for sure.

Yes you do need to protect those hands because if they break in a fight you can't close your hands properly.
I wasnt aware Calzaghe closes his hands when he fights.
Possibly, yeah. Joe's last fight, wants to go out with a bang = no need to protect hands any longer = Joe sits down on his shots and lives with the pain for half an hour.

And can you point me to a fight where Joe has knocked the guy to the canvas and the ref didn't count because the guy was out?
Maybe..................
But I havn't seen Joe out on a Saturday night in Cardiff, so can't speak for all of his fights.
For an half and hour? Thats probably when it's most painful after the fight, but I bet you it could be hurting somewhat for weeks if he goes all out.
No doubt. I'm sure you caught my meaning.

calzaghe hits like a girl. those slaps may hurt at SMW, but they wont hurt a true LHW. espacially one who has been all the way up to heavyweight before
I dunno about that. How about Joe-Manfredo? That was a TKO right?
I could bring up a million counter fights to that argument.
I'm just saying people see KO's as worse than TKO's, when neccessarily that isn't always the case.
People "jump the gun" too much on these boards.
Someone could be out cold on the floor, the ref starts counting to 5, then waves his arms. This is then scored as a TKO, so that guy doesn't have "true" knockout power. Bullshit.
People should stop living off boxrec on this site.
