what was wrong with Kelly Pavlik if anything??
im not trying to take away from Hopkins win allthough i will probably get accused of it by some moron its just be honest with yourself where was Pavlik at i understand the target was different from what he normally faces etc but he was not throwing punches period even in the first and 2nd round he did nothing i kept thinking in a minute Pavlik is going to start letting it go but he never did i know majority of that was down to B Hop but surely there had to be something wrong with Pavlik maybe the weight was a problem for him i dont know
im glad Hopkins won i expected Pavlik to win cause of Nards age and his lack of activity in the Calzaghe fight
i would not expect an active Pavlik to beat Hopkins having seen that fight but surely it would of been closer had Pavlik turned up albeit he would of still lost, im glad Hopkins won im more of a Hopkins fan than a Pavlik fan i just wanted to get other peoples view on whether Pavlik was not all there that night
Moby's shit. I said this months ago. If there'd been a different ref then he would have been a footnote in boxing history that read "Taylor TKO2 Moby".
He injured his elbow in training and was sick.
Joe was too afraid to fight him so Hops stepped up.
He looked 100% outclassed. I don't see anything else that makes him look any different from normal. Just watched the fight again, btw. But hey, you don't need to answer my posts if I'm annoying you. It's all good.
you are not annoying me i just dont see the point in me having a convo with someone who does not have a very observant Boxing brain
i thought it was CLEAR he was not 100% what is the point in me bickering the point back and fourth you think he was 100% i dont
ummm... Bernard Hopkins?
Several things, one was the weight of 170, two B-Hop being B-Hop and taking you out of your game plan. I also think he just had a bad night, But he will be back at 160 where he should be fighting at.
Hopkins style was all wrong for Pavlik.
Hopkins kept himself moving and stayed out of pavliks punching range, which stopped Pavlik throwing punches, I also feel he became a bit gun shy because Hopkin shots were hurting him.
what was wrong with Kelly Pavlik if anything??
** Simply put, Kelly had an off night against a HOFer who not only turned back the clock 5-10 yrs, but happened to have the best fight of his life.
You've got to go back to the Glen Johnson bout where Johnson is stepping up his competition for the first time to find an equivalent performance against a legit middleweight type, or at least the Joppy fight.
Reports were that Kelly didn't want the fight, nobody wants to fight Poppy anymore, but that the win was a formality to the Calzaghe superfight. Obviously team Kelly's been reading their press clippings and got too big for their britches.
Poppy'd been circling the drain for a number of years and coming off his disgraceful performance against Calzaghe. Not that much out there for him, but he's making more money since GB took him in than in the whole rest of his career, so someone will have to give him a beating to make him retire.
Roy and Joe would just as soon forget he ever existed. We saw what Dawson did to an in shape motivated Tarver, and I'd bet Glenn Johnson could really get his blood riled up for a rematch, so there it is.
The problem with Pavlik was he was full of energy, but kept trying to react to what hopkins was doing. It was almost like he was the one who tried to be the counter puncher, like he did against Lockett. Hopkins kept Pavlik reacting all night long.
The problem was Hopkins would jump out as soon as he landed, and left Pavlik in no mans land. He had nothing to react to and could not pull the trigger.
I sum it up to just shitty preparation on Pavlik's end, coupled with great preparation on Hopkins.
One misstep by Hopkins early could have changed the course of the fight, but Hopkins stuck to his game precisely and never let Pavlik find a rhythm.
This may never happen to Pavlik again, or it could be his real achilles heel. Fighters do have off nights though just like everyone else and can make another fighter look spectacular. Was Hopkins spectacular or did Pav just help him look that way? If Pavlik could have given Hopkins something to think about, Hops could have gassed early and the fight may have turned out much different.
Sometimes a fighter can go into a fight and just does not have it in them that night. We will know in time if Pavlik suffered that fate, or if he just is not competative on the highest level.
:lol1: commonsense should tell you,you are fresher earlier in a fight and you are more likely to throw punches when you are fresher
Generally during these types of discussions unless otherwise specified we're referring to the fighters OVERALL performance. Unless I missed it I don't see anywhere in this conversation where we're only discussing rounds 1-2. The middle rounds are fairly representative of the entire fight.
if you think Pavlik looked 100 % then i dont think there is any point talking about it anymore

That happened to me on my first loss man. That's why I can feel what he went through on his first loss. I really don't know what happened to me either. I think it has something to do with being very unfocused, 'cause when it happened to me, everytime I would get hit I would be less and less focused.
