NABF junior welterweight champion Frankie "El Gato" Figueroa is now set to face ESPN's "Most Memorable Fighter" Emanuel Augustus on the undercard of the November 8th clash between light heavyweight king Joe Calzaghe and Roy Jones Jr. Figueroa was originally scheduled to take on Gavin Rees, but Rees was forced to pull out of the fight after suffering an injury. Although his record may not indicate it, Augustus could prove to be a much more difficult test for Figueroa, who now has the task of putting on an impressive performance against a fighter who's unique style has confused opponents in the past. Throughout his career, Augustus has been one of the most popular fighters on ESPN's Friday Night Fights. His classic clash with "Irish" Mickey Ward on July 13, 2001 was voted 2001 ESPN Fight of the Year. Earlier this year, that same fight also won ESPN's Fight of the Decade award. Most recently, on July 4, 2008, Augustus scored a second round KO win over Jakkirt Suwunnalirt in Sydney Australia to capture the WBO Oriental Welterweight Title.
Very tough fight indeed.
I think Agustus might just win this. Hope Gato is ready. I know Agustus is gonna come and showboat and possibly get to Gato.
Lets hope not. Im rooting for Gato though.
After watching Gato's web episodes on youtube you cant help but to hope the guy succeeds . This is gonna be a tough fight for him, i would rather have seen him fight rees.....Should be an entertaining fight tho
This is actually a much tougher fight than Gavin Rees in my opinion. Rees would have been right in front of Gato but Augustus is a completely different story.
