Who's win over Hopkins was more impressive...

Calzaghe's split decision in '08 or Jones Jr.'s unanimous decision in '93 Which version of Hopkins was tougher, and closer to his best? ...the young (okay, not that young), green, not fully developed version Roy Jones beat, or the (very) old version Calzaghe scraped a win over? Does the nature of the wins reflect their skill set or Hopkins'? Vote and discuss. jones beat hopkins decisively like 8-4. calzaghe barely eeked out a win.

i still think prime for prime roy could beat hopkins and joe or anybody fighting today for that matter.

the question is unclear. Jones won more clearly but the question was, who beat the better version? Two questions in one. i meant, taking both things into consideration (the nature of the victory and where Hopkins was at at that point), which do you feel was the more impressive victory...i might not have phrased myself well

EASILY the one calzaghe faced. Would the green hopkins who lost to jones be able to beat pavlik like he did? he drew with segundo mercardo (who) and got KDed twice not long after the Jones fight. not even close Not only would Hopkins have beat Pavlik back in the day, he would have finished him off. I am starting to believe many never saw Hopkins fight prior to Tito other than the Roy Jones Jr fight. Hopkins was a beast back in the day, but it was Jones who calmed his ass down. Hopkins never had to come up with a gameplan to pace himself because of his age and stamina...not back in the day. He also threw more and threw harder. Even Allen said after their last bout that Hopkins wasn't as good and wasn't as powerful as he was before. Note: Jones had 21 fights; Hopkins 23.

the one that didn't get dropped on his ass and actually landed some effective punches on bhop, at a time when B-Hop wasn't in his '80s no less!

LOL, Joe beat a 43 year old Hopkins, imo its a good win but not great, Im more impressed with JTs 2 wins over a younger hopkins... theres only so much you can do at 43 people say that B-HOP was green when Roy beat him, well Roy was even younger that B-HOP.. Roy ws younger but a lot more experienced. Roy was an olympic medalist, Hopkins was an ex-convict..

Thatz from a style stand point. Pavlik is slow and one dimensional... yeah, but still... it's easy to say in retrospect (although i know a good few people on here called it before hand - myself included :D), Pavlik was also a prime fighter, the favourite to win with both the public and boxing experts and one of the biggest faces in boxing right now... i think it added that much more impressiveness(for lack of a better word) to the Joe win, which was either being dismissed as a robbery or a victory over an OAP before that

personally, the fact that Hopkins went on to dominate Pavlik a fight later, is what swayed my decision to pick Calzaghe's win as more impressive

In terms of the performance, Jones' was better and more clear cut. Although still not very impressive. It was just as bad a fight. In terms of which Hopkins was better. Debatable. Hopkins had some of his best years at the other end of his career to when he fought Jones. Hes like a fine wine.

Roy's injured hand plays into how impressive a win it was as well. UD agasinst an all-time great.

Roy beat a green Hopkins, Calzaghe beat a gray Hopkins. I think Calzaghe beat the tougher version, Roy beat him closer to his physical prime, but Joe beat him at his mental prime.

Jones won clearly. Calzaghe just about won, and won basically because he kept his hands moving and Hopkins got forced to expend energy eventually slowing right the way down. Even then I can see why people can say why Hopkins won, they'd be dead wrong, but they could still say it.

(the very close decision which some people still believe went the wrong way) the Hopkins who fought Jones was still far from a mug, and lost in a slightly more comprehensive fashion
