The way things are shaping up it could be a good year ahead in the SMW division and Kessler vs Taylor would arguably be the biggest fight out there. Kessler said on Saturday that he is now looking for the big US Fights and Taylor is expected to beat Jeff Lacy in his first SMW fight in November, so if this fight takes place in 2009, who you got?
Could ask the same question of Taylor. Its a pick em fight with many intangibles no doubt. I wouldnt say definitely either way.
I cant believe people think Kessler is anything like Pavlik. Kessler has many more strings to his bow and is a far superior boxer.
You could definitely ask the same question of Taylor, but not nearly as many people here are prostelitizing about Taylor as they are Kessler, as though he is some kind of boxing god. That's why I directed it toward the audience I did.
The fact is that Taylor's beaten nobody remotely like Kessler, but he's beaten better competition than Kessler has, while Kessler has beaten nobody like Jermain Taylor.
And I see that so far none of the Kessler faithful here have responded to my question about who he's beaten that demonstrates his ability to definitively beat Taylor.
If you don't understand it, let me point it out for you..
If you don't understand that fighting Andrade is nothing like fighting Taylor, then you aren't in a position to be pointing ANYTHING out to me. Their styles are nothing alike, their skills are nothing alike, they have NOTHING in common as fighters. Saying that Kessler would adapt the style he used on Andrade as a good example of what he could do to Taylor is as ignorant as it gets.
Taylors been out of action for awhile so it's tricky to gauge before we see him against Lacy. For me he should rape Lacy and if he doesn't what's he achieved, the stamp that he couldn't do a better job than Calzaghe?
I think as things stand I favour Kessler. He's similar in height, build and reach as Kelly, plus has more to his game and is a huge SMW. So he takes a late TKO imo.

There are alot of guys on here who are either just devout Pavlik fans, or a little country biased. Nothing really wrong with that, other than that it clouds judgement significantly.
Honest question for those who voted Kessler:
Who has he beaten that demonstrates he could "definitely" beat Jermain Taylor?
I'd argue that he's not faced anyone who presents the same set of challenges as Taylor. Calzaghe is faster and better technically, but does not hit as hard, and even he threw a couple shots that appeared to sting Kessler. Mundine is decently quick and slick enough himself, but not on Taylor's level.
Most of the Kessler picks seem to focus on comparisons of him to Pavlik, who beat Taylor twice using a consistent straight jab and good power, both of which Kessler has. But what hasn't been considered is what Pavlik has that allowed him to not get beaten by Taylor - a good, solid chin, insane stamina and determination, and the heart of a lion. And even then the second fight was VERY close. Can Kessler stand up to the flush counterpunches and stiff jab that Pavlik had to endure in order to beat Taylor, all while being determined enough to stick with his own game plan? I'M NOT CONVINCED HE CAN.

Take a look at Kessler's face in 41 bout's, not a single fkn scratch.. only time i seen kessler gettin' seriously hit was in the Calzaghe fight - most fighter's with his record looks like they we're run over by a steam roller, you can't even tell he's a boxer by looking at this guy.. that among other things shows what a skilled fighter he really is and he fought decent guys, was reign WBA/WBC champ untill he met Calzaghe who's unbeaten to this date and no shame in losing to that the way he did it..

Watch the andrade fight, and adapt this style to a Taylor fight.. honestly yes, Taylor would get KTFO.
You lost me at "Watch the Andrade fight, and adapt this style to a Taylor fight."

I might be alone in thinking Taylor is the more talented guy.
I think they might both lack it a little bit between the ears to be real great fighters. Taylor by decision or he gets KTFO. Sitting on the fence sweetly, on this one.
I think Taylor probably is the more talented, but I think Kessler is the more technically skilled, and I also believe (though many would disagree with me) that Kessler has the faster hands, and better power.
I like Kessler in this, simply because Taylor's defense has a few holes in it that a highly skilled technician like Kessler will exploit easily and often. Kessler should land lots of straight right hands starting fairly early, and have Taylor stopped before the opening of the 8th.
Kessler is a lot better than Pavlik.
Must be from Europe ! Pavlik I think would KO Kessler ! Styles makes fights and that style molds well for Pavlik ! Pavlik beat Taylor twice and I think Taylor can beat Kessler ! That's just my take ! Everyone has their own opinion !
Kessler by UD. Taylor just doesn't use his athletic gifts well enough and his defence is poor. Kessler would pick him apart with precise counter punches.
beeing hurt and having the ref save your bacon, is nearly stopped. some of Calzaghe's bullshit stoppages have been similar.
Kessler was hurt, but not enough for Calzaghe to finished him

This is about where I'm at. If Taylor comes to play, he wins a 2-3 round UD. If not, I can see him getting KO'd. Awaiting his performance in the Lacy fight to see what the future might bring for him.
And I definitely think he's the more talented guy. They just need to put him on Ativan or something.
I say Taylor ! I don't think he's as bad as people might think ! Kessler ins't no Pavlik ! Pavlik ins't as bad as he looked against Hopkins ! Styles makes fights and Kessler don't hit as hard as Pavlik ! I think Kessler is an overrated European ! So I go with Taylor ! Which I think Taylor will beat Lacy !
Kessler is a lot better than Pavlik.
I have absolutely no idea how Pavlik managed to beat Taylor twice, no idea whatsoever.
Pavlik isn't as bad as he looked against Hopkins, but they are both straight punches and Kessler has the greater handspeed and footwork. Though Pavlik could hurt Kessler to the body.
