this is from his new training blog
Even though I'm getting ready for a big fight against Calzaghe -- a fight I know I am going to win -- I took a little break from my training camp in California, Pa., to go to Atlantic City last weekend to check out the fight between Bernard Hopkins and Kelly Pavlik.
But I didn't take too much of a break. Before I left, I trained on Saturday morning. Then I flew an hour to Philly and drove another hour to Atlantic City. I train six days a week and Sunday is my rest day, so I didn't miss any training to go to the fight.
Roy Jones knew after a round of fighting that Bernard Hopkins, right, would dismantle Kelly Pavlik.
Going to the fight was a fun thing for me. I enjoyed being there. It made me even hungrier for my own fight. While I was there I had a chance to meet with some of the press guys before the fight and to talk them about the Calzaghe fight. I think they were surprised I was on time, but I enjoyed talking with those guys and I'm glad they're interested in my fight. I also had a chance to go on the pay-per-view broadcast and do an interview about the fight with Jim Lampley. I hope you're all watching on Sunday night when the first episode of "Calzaghe/Jones 24/7" comes on HBO (8:30 ET/PT).
But back to Hopkins and Pavlik. I knew Bernard was going to win. He already had Pavlik figured out when they signed for the fight. I thought Bernard fought a perfect fight. Kelly is a good young champion and an up-and-comer, but he doesn't have the experience at the next level like guys like me and Bernard and Calzaghe have. He only beat Jermain Taylor, another guy who is a good fighter, but green. Bernard took Kelly to school at the next level.
When they were talking about Pavlik fighting Calzaghe before they made the fight with Bernard, I told people Calzaghe would kill Pavlik because he didn't know enough. I thought Bernard would do the same thing. The only thing I worried about with Bernard was his age. He's 43, so the only thing I was worried about was would his legs hold up. But after the first round, I knew Kelly wasn't going to beat him. Bernard is just too smart for him. I was laughing because I knew what was going to happen. I was like, "Wow, this is great for Bernard. Kelly is making him look so good." I was sitting ringside with Ross Greenburg (president of HBO Sports) and I told him in the first round, "This fight is over. Kelly won't have a chance tonight." He looked at me and said, "Yeah, I can tell."
With that win, people want to see me and Bernard do it again after I beat Joe. I beat Bernard 15 years ago and I will do it again if we fight. I'd like that fight and if it makes sense and we come up with a good deal, for sure I will do it. People want to see if Bernard can get revenge. But first I need to take of Joe, which I will do.
lol
I know thats the real reason Joe is taking this.In his auto he swore blind he wouldnt fight Jones because it wasnt the Jones we all knew in the past i lost a lot of respect for joe after that.
And its a question of becareful what you wish for cause i have no doubt the minute the fight was signed that Roy Jones would win it..
His been written off to quick....
Its not saying he cant top it... but beating roy wont top it... if he beat roy, then beat chad dawson, i think hed be damn close..
but beating roy just isnt proving it... thats why joe has everything to lose and roy has everything to gain...
if roy loses its because he doesnt have it anymore... if roy wins... then a past his prime roy beat joe... which shits all over joes legacy, and skyrockets roys
So Joe is in a tight corner here then thats a proper Big gamble to be taking
Cool reed i get ya mate..
Guess i confused the better fighter right now with the better legacy.
Maybe a bit hasty in saying that these last fights decide each guys legacy completley forgetting what Jones has already achieved ie..heavyweight champion etc..
So in saying that really no matter what Joe does from here his not really topping either Jones or Hop's legacy right now

im doin alright, enjoyin my cheat day with some chicken and steak fajitas!
yeah roy looks good... lookin forward to the 24/7 episode for sure...
yeah the indiana jones look i wasnt feelin lol.. he does that shit on purpose, to try and cover himself up as much as possible before a fight, he doesnt like people seeing his body or what kind of shape hes in.. its a mental age kind of thing.. same reason jordan wore a new pair of sneakers before every game.. he said it always just made him feel better.I think the reason why he doesn't shave and i've noticed it on many occasions is that 100% focused on the fight. He eats, sleeps, and shits boxing when he's training and doesn't have time to shave because he's on the grind. As far as the dress code I have no idea what he was thinking!
Nah i was saying you know ur shit i dont wanna be pulled up by you sort of thing i gotta side step ya becareful of how i word things sort of thing if you get me bruv lol
I was only messin son..
But what if Joe does win though reed would you say that Most would say
that Joe was the better fighter had the better legacy etc AND do you give any credit to Joe if he does beat Jones?
my thing is... roy WAS a way better fighter than joe, so this fight completely depends on WHICH roy shows up... the best roy will beat joe, not even the best roy will beat joe... the roy we saw a few years ago will lose to joe... it depends, on what version of roy joe beats... joe will get credit, but not the kind of credit he thinks he deserves for it... roy ISNT prime, not even close... at 36, joe is near the end of prime.. but near the end of prime.. and WAY past prime are a HUGE difference...
Joe beating Roy NOW, does not in any way shape or form mean that joe was always the better fighter... or had the better legacy...
Roy did something nobody did in a over 100 years... former MW champion going to HW winning and coming back down to LHW...
Joe stayed in a stalemate division, a division that is only a little over 20 years old to begin with... He beat lacy, who was SUPPOSED to be good, but as we saw, he WASNT... Kessler is a very good fighter, but not great.. who has kessler beaten? the same guys he continues to fights... He moved up to 170 fight a 42 yr old Bernard... Bernard looked horrible in that fight, and so did Joe to be honest...I think it was a contrast of styles... bernard was tired by round 5, and Joe only won a split decision...
Now Joe is going to end his career with a guy who hasnt had a win over an elite opponent since 2004... coming from 2 KOs and a lopsided UD loss... winning over one bum... one undefeated prospect, and a retired tito...
Even though I believe Roy can still beat Joe... Roy has really dont nothing to prove he can still fight at the elite level.. so... how much credit can Joe truly be given?
But when we talk about what Roy did in his prime... and what Bernard is STILL doing... Joe is in 3rd place.
I've seen Kris around before, many times actually. Can't recall a particular time we've discussed something, but it must've happened.
Any fan of Stallone is a friend of mine, we're just going to have to disagree about Calzaghe until one of us dies first.
Likewise, can't recall, but all cool. I'm a few years older but every things in working order. What's your health insurance saying, ETA 80?

Well if he dies first, I get to scratch "Calzaghe is an overrated Euro bum" on his tombstone, and if I kick the bucket first, he can etch "Hopkins is a racist muslim who feasted on welterweights" on mine. That's all I'm saying.
Haha, it's all cool in the gang man. I just had bangers and mash, and you said yourself you had a chicken earlier. Bringer, you have tuna?
See, no ones got beef.
Took me a second to figure out exactly what the hell you just said, but I eventually got it, lol.
lol.... why ya gata side step me?

of which i was victim of once... :luvbed:
I remember when I first joined here, I would get so angry at the veterans who were mainy creating humor threads. I was like "I want to discuss boxing damnit!", after a few short months of conversing with some of (not all) these kids, I realized why they did it.
LOL
Reed knows his shit man i have to side step around reed lol
Nah thats why i said even though the true boxing heads know better you know really these last fights are gonna decide what people think about these guys and how they rate them...
If Joe wins this board will be dedicated to the love of Joe Calzaghe im telling ya.
No disrespect to his fans like some of them like great joe etc are sound lads
lol.... why ya gata side step me?
