He looked rough following the Mitchell knockdown, I have to say. He didn't look all there. But he obviously had enough wits about him to knock Mitchell the FUCK out in the next two minutes.
I made the same point earlier...he was hurt by Mitchell, but he's in such great shape, he recovers quick. And also to his credit, he doesn't try and cover or grab, he fires back immediately...bad news for someone who thinks he's going to have an easy finish, like Mitchell did.
That was a great fight, even as short as it was.
Superman? Hardly. CJ meant that the KD's weren't severe enough. When have we ever seen Calzaghe do a Kahn? Even when Mitchell tagged him, he was up, steady legs and of sound mind. Which is why he could time Mitchell so easily. Hopkins, Salem and Mitchell were flash KDs.
So no, we have NEVER seen Calzaghe legitimately hurting. So it is a pretty sensible post. Unlike yours.

its sensible to claim calzaghe is superman and has never been hurt in 45 fights? he clearly has been hurt against mitchell and salem. yea pretty sensible.

I'm making a point here. People are saying that Calzaghe has a weak chin because he got dropped by Salim, Mitchell and Hopkins, all the while ignoring the fact that Trinidad has been dropped more times than an ugly baby.
I happen to agree with you, in spite of your name making me grit my teeth (can't read it without thinking of "Deliverance"....hated that movie). Calzaghe's been down a few times, but almost bounces back up. I don't think there's a thing wrong with his beard...most in the sport would give their left nut to have one like it.
I didn't claim that Calzaghe is superman,What I meant was althoigh he's obviously been hurt he's never been hurt to a serious degree in 45 fights.
Unlike the dude below trying to rewrite history by claiming that Calzaghe has been knocked out 3 times and that Felix ''Tito'' Trinidad is the man of stell who's never been knocked and just slips on occasion in the ring....lol
Lmao It's always amusing when someone tries to rewrite history..lol
You do realize that I was being sarcastic right?

You forgot to mention Trinidad's legendary iron chin. Unlike Calzaghe who got knocked out three times but benefitted from long counts and cheating Trinidad was never knocked down ever. His supposed "knockdowns" against Alberto Cortes, Anthony Stephens, Yori Boy Campas, Oba Carr, Kevin Lueshing, David Reid, and Bernard Hopkins were all slips. The last slip resulted in him bashing his head on a hard spot on the ring which left him slightly dazed, although the ring came off worse. So if Roy could knock down the Man Of Steel, Felix Tito Trinidad, he'll have no problem knocking out the slack jawed Welshman, probably with a jab.

Ok. My point is both have good chins.
Getting knocked down isn't indicative of a bad chin or even a suspect one - particularly early in your career (Trinidad was 20 when he first won the welter title). Pernell Whitaker was dropped several times early, as was Oscar De La Hoya and a slew of others. But as some poster mentioned above, it's how well you recover when you get up. Tito stopped ever single person you listed except for Hopkins and Reid (who he dropped four times and ruined).
As Larry Merchant said, "You don't go through 20-something odd championship fights without the ability to take a punch." That applies to both Calzaghe AND Trinidad.

I think he will, kid.
Calzaghe always reminds me of a blown up former welterweight who had never fought at 170lbs and had been retired for nearly three years.
I think you're onto something. Well done you.

LOLZ, calzaghe and trinidad are about as unlike each other as possible for two boxers. trinidad is tailor made for roy - one dimensional, he stands right in front of you, loads up for one big shot at a time, and he's shot, too. calzaghe throws maybe 150 punches / slaps per round, never comes straight in - always at angles. the fight with trinidad looked like two guys sparring, calzaghe will put pressure on roy and make him fight. RJJ won't be able to stand there and pick his shots like he did on tito, he'll be waiting for the gaps in joe's punches. if i were roy, i would try to pick my shots - hit joe on the ear, the temple, the chin, eye, all the places that do the most damage

He does get hurt. To think that shots from the likes of Kessler, Eubank, Mitchell, etc don't hurt is pretty dumb. The important thing is how quickly you can recover.
I think that's what CJ meant by it; that he hasn't been hurt enough to get dropped and stay down.

Roy WONT knock Calzaghe out thats for sure.He may have been knocked down but Calzaghe has never been hurt in 45 fights and he's taken hard shots unfazed since since the start of his career in 1993.
congrats on your first post. And its a sensible post too. Thats really hard to achieve around here lol.

Roy jones is going to have to let hes hands go, and quit being scared to get hit by leaning against the ropes all night, if he doesnt do these things Calzaghe will win by UD.
I'd love to see Roy walking Calzaghe down like that. lol. Although it might be kind of sad.
Roy will be strictly on counter duty, he ain't leading off shit against Calzaghe, he'll pass out by round 9 if he does that, and tries to go punch for punch.

Welcome CJ.
Stickman: I enjoyed that fight very much, too. Very entertaining. I saw it when it was aired on TV and couldn't believe Calzaghe got up and battered Mitchell and stopped him in the very same round. I genuinely thought Joe's successful run had come to an end at that point. Since then, he's continued to surprise me, hence me never taking bets against Joe Calzaghe ever again.
