I chose these 3 due to thier notoriety and popularity.
Tyson hit the HW scene like a storm in the mid-80's, and turned many fans of today on to boxing! People/fans were mezmerized by him. I remember my entire family gathering in front of the tv just to see how fast Tyson would dispose of his next victim.
Oscar has had the backing of many casual and diehard fans for the past 15yrs or so. He is one of the most recognizable figures in the sport, and still has the drawing power to break records. He is also a favorite amongst female fans.
Floyd didnt gain notoriety amongst many casual fans until his destruction of Arturo Gatti, and his fights with Oscar and Hatton. His fight with Oscar broke all records with 2.4million ppv buys. Since then he has also become a very recognizable figure in the sport. He retired undefeated as the #1 pfp fighter in the world.
Vote.
I get a kick out of polls that include Floyd. Some fans will vote for him nomatter WHAT the question, as long as thier vote will benefit Floyd.
lol i know you do, but you really have to be stupid to pick mayweather on this one, Naz was like a mini-pop star who had the big names like Michael jackson, puff daddy escorting him to the ring.
He made little kids want to go the gym and box.
To be honest Naz did more and made more of an impact than Mayweather did..

Tyson, DLH then Floyd a distant 3rd. Infact I'd say RJJ was 3rd and Floyd 4th Roy was the first guy to go from MW to HW and win titles in like 100 years
nope, Holyfield is above Floyd and maybe Roy. Maybe because he was involved with those two fights with Tyson, but even before that he had a huge amount of interest.
Id say hes probebly still more well known than Floyd and Roy.

I think you wanted everyone to vote floyd but it failed lol i voted tyson btw
Great thread.
I'm not sure if you deliberately listed the 3 in order but I'll go with that order
Tyson,DLH, Floyd.
Id say thats about the only answer anyone can give.
Tyson for me. He is a household name, I didn't seriously get into boxing until about 5 years ago and until then I hadn't even heard of PBF or De La Hoya but I've known about Tyson for as long as I can remember.
You might not know a lot about Golf, but you know who Tiger Woods is
You might not know a lot about Tennis, but you know who Pete Sampras is.
You might not know a lot about Football, but you know who David Beckham is.
Household names. Tyson is one of them. Not the other two. I just asked my mum if she knew who Mike Tyson was, she answered conclusively. I asked her about DLH and PBF, she hadn't heard of DLH she vaguely knows of PBF as the guy Hatton fought.
floyd? really?
i'd say Hamed bringing the spotlight to the lower weights and getting boxers under WW the kind of money they're getting now has made more impact that floyd....
Well u know how it is here. Some fans are so sensitive, that if you dont include/mention Floyd's name in these types of discussions, you will get labled as a "hater" and red k'd. LOL. Honestly though, i felt his name deserved a mention here.
1 Delahoya-Mayweather: 2.2 MIL
2 Tyson-Holyfield 2: 1.99 MIL
3 Tyson-Lewis: 1.8 MIL
4 Tyson-Holyfield 1: 1.59 MIL
5 Tyson- McNeely: 1.55 MIL
6 Holyfield - Foreman: 1.4 MIL
7 DelaHoya-Trinidad: 1.4 MIL
8 Tyson-Bruno: 1.37 MIL
9 Tyson-Ruddock 2: 1.25 MIL
10 Holyfield-Lewis 1: 1.2 MIL
11 Holyfield-Douglas: 1.06 MIL
12 Tyson -Selden: 1.01 MIL
13 DelaHoya- Hopkins - 1.0 Mil
14 DelaHoya - Mosley 2 : 975K
15 Tyson- Ruddock 1: 959K
8 out top 15 top PPV sales involved Tyson. He bought boxing alive. Anywhere in the world people know who Tyson is, this is cannot be said for Oscar.
Oscar PPV sales were against other great fighters Tito Hopkins Mayweather Mosley. Tyson fought some nobodies yet got great numbers. Tyson- McNeely: 1.55 MIL
Mayweather is not even close. I think RJJ had a greater impact
Plus we have to take into account that Tyson's ppv were this high during a time when more than half of the country watched these fights on "hot boxes"....(illegal cable). Imagine the numbers he would've put up in today's times when we actually have to pay to watch a fight?
floyd? really?

Agreed 100% Naz made a HUGE Impact too, pitty the way it all ended has made him a joke
Tyson !!!!!!!!!!
Without a doubt Mike Tyson revived the sport. He was awesome and just drew huge crowds, publicity and contracts. You name it, everlast, nintendo, wheaties etc, etc.... He was on it. Cause he was the man who made the biggest impact in boxing. Reason, he's amazing knockout power.
Thats what i was trying to say.. I wasn't denying Tyson's impact.. just saying alot of it was negative..
Yeah i hear ya Welter, id say he did more good than bad tho after all theres LEGIONS of fans here only through him
Tyson is God and if u dont worship him then die! :cop: lol
The question is Who made the BIGGER impact, i see some debate if Tyson was good or bad for boxing, either way he made a HUGE Impact!
Tyson is the reason i and many others are involved in the sport, the guys prime was 20years ago and casual fans and hardcore fans alike still talk about him more than most guys!

When you saw the former champions doing that intro for Vitali in Germany, the response for Tyson speaks for itself. All the others combined didn't come close. Like him or not, Tyson became an international boxing icon.
I remember watching one of Tyson's recent interviews, and them mentioning something about Tyson being able to go overseas and make $3-4mil just signing books and giving a speech. There is nobody else in the sport, retired or not, who can do that right now. No one!
