TARVER-DAWSON Discussion Thread

A good intrging battle of the southpaws, first off Antonio Tarver has to be reconized as one of the worst fighters to blow hot and cold, he goes on good runs and just when he looks like he gonna hit the big time it crumbles. Tonight i think Tarver's age showed alot against a faster younger and more skilled fighter in dawson, Dawson combinations and flurry of speed really impressed me and i don't think tarver knew how to handle the spped factor of Dawson, he looked a little bit confused and dazed with it all. He cound't seem to find a rythem and as the fight progressed the older and more vunrable Tarver looked, also Tarver's punches seemed to have no zip about them and no meaning to them,they just looked ineffective. But now i think Dawson has got a really bright future ahead of him and can look foward to some big money fights and hopefully being a pound for pound fighter. Were Tarver i don't know who knows maybe a third fight with Glen Johnson, maybe a fight on a espn main event against maybe Bryd or Shuan George, or maybe a move to the cruiserweight divison and maybe have an impact there or maybe he should call it a day. I scored the fight 119/109 to Dawson.

Why does Dawson sound punch drunk? Or is he jus tired. Maybe that's why Floyd Sr. thought he was retarded.

dawson won it based on activity. both guys defense is pretty good. both guys get stuck in defensive shells... only difference in this fight imo was punch selection...dawson chose spots to throw authoritative combos...though they mostly didnt land..but it LOOKED more dominant..and he was more active...though tarver was forcing the issue the whole night

Dawson looked like he had a swollen lip. Anyways, very good performance from Dawson, showed a bit of everything in the fight, Tarver didn't look as bad as I thought he would in defeat but he still showed his age nonetheless. Good fight.

I think his trainers expected him to fight more disciplined after the Glen Johnson fight. Tarver wasn't really given a chance to land that big counter punch but to be honest, it didn't seem like Tarver had much of a punch left anyway. Dawson should work on his accuracy. Tarver's got a pretty good defense. He's just a hard target to hit cleanly as well. But I think Dawson showed that he can be disciplined for twelve and he can give and take when necessary. Plus, his speed makes opponent's hesitant. Hats off to Glen Johnson whose stock rises following this fight. Dawson may have to wait a while before he gets a high-profile bout.

congrats to dawson, very good fight, and tarver despite being surpassed in every aspect... speed, power, stamina, etc.... did very good. his defense allowed him to last 12 rounds and put that little bit of uncertainty til the end. i hope that dawson keeps getting better from now on, and he is on the good way.

Outstanding performance for Dawson. This fight makes Glen Johnson look great though. Two unexpectedly one-sided fights on this card.

Very good performance by Dawson, I expected something like this. Entertaining 12th round. Tarver was made to look his age but that's probably the most punches he has ever thrown in the last round.
