Seriously. We should all be rooting for Pavlik. Boxing's next big star. Anyone who wants Hopkins to win is rooting for boxing to stall and to continue with the old names. Out with the old in with the new. Its time for the young guns to take over and time for the veterans to hit the showers

if roy and hopkins both win
they could end both their careers with a rematch
now THAT would be good for boxing
Bernard Hopkins is 43 and Roy Jones Jr is 39. I dont think you all get my point. I am not bashing these fighters. They are hall of famers. I am saying its time for them to get out and let the new faces of boxing take over.
I am tired of seeing Hopkins on PPV. Hopkins-Jones would probably be on PPV and would probably be boring.
I see were your coming from, boxing needs them new stars especially someone like Pavlik because he has an exciting style, Hopkins is a hell of a good defensive fighter but his style can be kind of booring for a average joe thats thinking about gettying into the sport of BOXING.
I can only hope. As greedy as I sound, I want him to retire defeating RJJ.
That's me perfect scenario as well, but even if Jones beats Joe, I doubt he'd fight Bernard. He'd most likely have his eyes on the Tarver/Dawson winner. Leaving Bernard with no real opponet unless he wants to kick Glen Johnson's ass again.
I remember when Bernard retired after Tarver, I remember the board flooding with support and love for him. I remember because it shocked the hell out of me, but then again how can you not respect that kind of performance by a 41 year old career Middleweight making his debut at Light Heavyweight against the lineal Champ?
Then he came back from retirement and everybody turned on him and it's been downhill ever since. Come October 18th he's going to put on 1 final clinic before walking into the sunset.
Hey give Hopkins his props. He's always in shape and even at his age is probably in better shape then 80 percent of the boxers you have out there now. Bernard is a very smart boxer too. Great defensive boxer. Promoted himself throughout his career and didnt cave in to the corrupt and shady promoters. And he's 40 something years old and still facing top quality opposition. Give him some respect.
If you're a fan of someone, wouldn't you want them to have a huge win as their farewell to the sport when everyone's written them off? Few if any boxers have that opportunity, it would be huge for Hopkins's legacy.
Unless he begins to completely erode, which is possible........Hopkins is still a threat to nearly everybody in his division. He's got the physical talents, natural advantages, and ring smarts to pull the upset on anyone at LHW.
Forget all this "old" man bullshit, come talk to me about how old he looks when he Tarver's Kelly's ass. Make sure to follow it up with "Pavlik was a hypejob anyway".

Well someone needs to step up and knock that old man out then
looking forward to the fight and dont mind who wins..
eh come on, race aside
im white and don't really care who/what I watch.
on the contrary I can't stand Chuck Liddell .. the UFC poster boy
if people really don't watch boxing cuz lack of a "black" or "white" star
that sounds kinda shallow if you ask me.
amazing how in 2008 race is still an issue.
I made this point with Sam/Vitali, but it doesn't really hold true here. Pavlik can be great for the sport, but it doesn't hinge on him nearly as much as it does other things. It would be a minor blow, but it'd be forgotten in short time.
Boxing lacks the big white american star. Pavlik gives young white americans someone to root for. That is one of the arguments mma fans tell me when they dont watch boxing, it is because there are no white american stars.

Not true. Many people just love their favorite fighters and support them even in the twilight of their career, rather than jumping ship to the next big star.
Believe it or not Hopkins has fans around here. I'm at the forefront of that fanbase, along with several other guys like Precision, Ryn0, El Dominicano, and many other intelligent fans.
I'll be backing Bernard until the day he retires. Even if that means he's fighting in 2012, bet your ass I'll drop 100K or so on him to win.
