How much longer will Margarito be at the top?

I had to bring this up. Some of the replies are funny. I knew he wouldn't be on top much longer, but I didn't know it'd be in his next fight.

your right! cotto was frustrated in there! I think cotto landed like a total of 7 or 8 more total shots! most of them jabs! margarito killed him in power shots landed by like 20 something shots. Common don't exaggerate so much Rogelio. Cotto had 179 power shots out of 395 thrown. And Marg had 58 more power shots landed than Cotto. But Cotto WAS frustrated. He couldn't land anything to the body. i can see oscar beating margarito but margarito would absolutely MURDER mosley OSCAR BEATING MARG!?!?!?!?!?!? You think that old body of his can take 12 rounds of Marg barrage for decision win!? Cause he CERTAINLY wouldn't knock Marg out!!!! Oscar couldn't knockout a Forbes' chin - YOU THINK FORBES HAS MORE CHIN THAN MARG? Oscar lost 3 of his last 6 fights, and opted to fight a lightweight! - someone 2, even 3 divisions lower for a reason - His time is done! There's a reason Oscar is avoiding Marg. Marg would walk through his punches. Oscar can't handle that. He'll fight for a few more years. If you're asking though how long he'll stay champ? I think that'll end in 2009

the Cotto rematch is already on tabs for potentially taking place in June of next year.

i give him a year or 2 worth of big fights, maybe a cotto rematch

he will be at the top until someone beats him, that could be williams again.

1-2 years, Williams will get him beforehand if Tony signs on the dotted line

Margarito is the man! He proves to be a force to be reckoned with in his division.

name me the fights margarito has been in that makes you think he can't last much longer. Cotto by far was his toughest fight and nothing fazed him absolutely nothing! Wow a bump on your eye from some shots and that makes you believe he can't keep fighting like this? Tell me how you come to this assumption. I'm not just bringing longevity into question here. He may fight for a while, he may not, but with the talent and tough challenges ahead of him, he may not be at the top 2 or 3 fights from now due to him losing.

Honestly i think he has a lot of years left in him. Obviously he started his pro-career at a real young age and has always fought an aggressive taxing style. But i think what wears out fighters most throught their careers are body shots and Margarito has always had a great body defense. Even though he loves to fight inside he always has been great at using his elbows to protect his body from any damage. Funny how his vicious uppercuts are probably his best defense! and Margarito has always had a fantastic work ethic i mean he keeps himself in shape like very few can in the business! i say he still has 6 or 7 great years left in him!

as long as he stays away from clottey and williams

If his head continues to be his defense, then he won't last very long. Just thinking about him taking so much headshots makes me have a headache.

untill the next time he gets put down, once he gets put down his chin will soften up, and marg without the granite chin has nothing but stamina, As far as his defense being under rated.....your right, people say he gets hit by every punch, when the truth is he might block 1 or 2 out of 10.

it all depends.honestly, that dude is smarter than i thought he was.I've always seen him as a dumb fighter.when in reality he's just not athletic.he pretty much out smarted an overconfident cotto.with that said, i don't know, 2 3 fights? who knows.he was pretty swollen in the face in the post cotto fight.he looked his worst then I'd had ever seen him look.

His defense is underestimated.. Cotto himself said he couldn't hit him as much as he wanted to. Couldnt hit his body as much as he wanted to. Cotto landed flush bomb after bomb to Margarito's head throughout the fight, As did Cintron as long as their fight lasted, as did Clottey before he faded etc. The guy has been a pro for 15 years already and has had that wide open style the whole time, like it or not Margarito only has maybe two years tops before he starts to slide noticeably. All that said, if and when he and Williams ever meet again, he will be beaten. And I will give Cotto maybe a 20 percent chance in the rematch.

yeah because we all know how bad williams punished margarito with that slapping and running technique. Those hundred slaps a round really did a number on margarito he has never been the same since. It's amazing how margarito continued to come foward and win the second half of the fight. I'm still trying to figure out how it was williams' face that was busted up, cut and swollen while margarito didn't even look like he was in a fight. I fear for margarito safety in a rematch with williams. I dont fear for his health or safety.... I do about his title.. :boxing: relax man.. im just satting my oppinion.. styles make fight.... either way... I'll be rooting for margo if they fight gets done..!! :boxing:
