ALRIGHT, so i need to get this off my chest cuz i see 50 posts about this everyday and it's getting annoying.. for those saying that pac's just in it for the money, you all gotta think about it for a second. he's the number one pound for pound fighter today, and a shot delahoya wanted a 70-30 split? if any one of you were on top of the pound for pound list, you all know you'd feel ripped off.. especially from a fighter who's been hardly active for some time now. give the guy a fair split at least, right? well that's what he fought for, and that's what he got. now shut up about that. also, what featherweight do you see is eying some of the elite fighters 2-3 weight classes up? you all can judge the dude, but pacquiao's adding to his legacy by aiming at some big time fighters before he retires, which is very soon. it all makes sense.. he's got delahoya next, who everyone knows is an all time great, and it's been in the talks that he's also eying ricky hatton and mayweather who everyone knows are great fighters. now would you rather finish off your career with the likes of these three fights, or finish off with fighters like cotto, margarito (both who havent yet proved to be near an ATG status), or JMM (who will just keep bitching if he loses again)? the dude's not tryin to make a name for himself and wipe out every division he enters... he already did that working his way up to superfeatherweight, and everyone knows that he's capable of doing so if he really wanted to. the man's finishing off his career fighting HUGE names, and not CURRENT champions or CURRENT top fighters. he's smart for doing what he's doing, and if you're gonna hate, then you truly don't understand what he's trying to accomplish. chances are that most of you haters are either JMM fans or pacquiao haters that just wanna see him lose. plain and basic common sense. try to disagree.
ah, that felt better. haha :boxing:
that's your opinion. and no, the split isn't about ego and pride. do you think there would be a huge controversy over ego and pride? hell no.
I can see how that is solely my opinion but knowing what I know and for as long as I have known it I can tell you the split % isn't always about money. Ego and pride to play a factor into it, example, SSM refused to take I think an 80-20 split because he didnt think it was fair but then took what I think was a 75-25 split when he rematched DLH. That 5% isn't necessarily something SSM couldn't do without so it was more about pride than actual $
manny may not be a "mega star", but he IS the one fighter that EVERYONE in the lower weight classes wants a piece of. Not to mention that there's already alot of hype for this fight (from the huge issue regarding the size difference, and the fact that delahoya wants to beat pacquiao to avenge mexico), and everyone already knows that this will be one of the biggest events in boxing history. If you want to say that all this is because of oscar, you're wrong. For this matchup, pacquiao's just as important as oscar is, because if it wasnt for pacquiao, the fight wouldnt have been as big. and you want to tell him that a 70-30 split is reasonable? even the 65-35 seems kinda low IN MY OPINION, but definitely is alot better than a 70-30 split. Sure oscar generates alot of revenue, but in this case, pac's a huge factor as well as to why this fight will bring about alot, and that's why i argue that the offered 70-30 is too low for pacquiao even though he'll make more in this fight than any other. the man's arguably the most entertaining fighter to watch in boxing, and in my opinion definitely deserves more.)
dude
how many buys did Manny-Diaz do? 125 maybe?
whats been Manny's biggest purse to date? 3-4 million maybe?
say the pot is about 70 million for this fight. Even at 10% he would double Manny's previous high payday and with about 5% of what DLH did is his last PPV (2.4 million vs 125k buys)
read my comment above
I did and it smells of Manny love. You obviously dont the Manny's market value and only see him as some idol or diety or whatever.
fact is fact Manny doesn't draw without a dance partner.
my bad. indeed he is a lightweight. so let me rephrase that.. what lightweight do you see is eying some of the elite fighters 2-3 weight classes up? and i'm talkin about the lower weight classes. not the higher. good for pavlik. you tryna make yourself look good or something?
Pavlik and what does it matter what weight they are at as long as the effort is there? IMO you probably didn't realize that someone other than Manny is going to do it first to an arguably better fighter (Pavlik taking Hopkins versus Manny taking on what you admit to is a part time fighter in DLH)
so I trumped you why do you feel the need to get all offended do to it? dude if you dont like the comments people say about your little diatribe then either ignore it or dont write it but as it is the theory is flawed
delahoya and mayweather are huge names in boxing, and hatton, although not as big as hoya or pbf, are all stepping stones for pacquiao to possibly retire as an ATG if he were beat them. sure there's big money involved, and i never doubted that, but i was speaking in behalf of the benefits for pacquiao legacy wise
yeah I can see that as it is seemingly impossible to have a run like this. However, if you think its solely for legacy then you are mistaken.
green is driving this no matter how much you wish otherwise
okay, well if you want to be technical, calling oscar an all-time-great IS debatable. but whether or not he'll be considered an ATG, oscar will forever be well known in boxing history, and that's the impact i was trying to bring about by calling him an ATG. sorry.
so is Tyson and I wouldn't consider him an all time great.
jusgt admit Manny is going after in order 1) the green 2) the name 3) the challenge
Hatton's record is remarkable, and has a pretty good resume.. he's a great fighter in my eyes.
what makes his resume remarkable as you put it? simple question you should be able to answer.
in my opinion, hatton's a step up from cotto and margarito. (some will disagree)..
wrong. Hatton's reign at 140 has largely been against so so fighters and his venture at 147 was at best a disaster.
cotto came out of a loss to margarito, and people are already questioning how he's going to bounce back
because of the manner at how he got beat not for the skills or resume he posesses.
.. i think he'd have a little more proving to do to deserve a shot at pacquiao.
thats laughable
and as for margarito, he's definitely a good fighter, dangerous, and would be a great matchup for pac.. but before the cotto fight, he wasn't as big as he is now.
but this ISNT pre Cotto now is it? as it stands now name a bigger Mexican fighter?
he ended up winning against a favored cotto, and is now the current big thing in the welterweight division... it would be a big fight with a great outcome,
yeah if you enjoy Manny getting pummeled I guess
but i don't think that a fight with margarito is big enough for pacquiao to consider having as one of his last fights..
ahahahahaha we so not worthy of Manny......
wow seriously you sound like a fan of Manny not boxing now
hatton's record is remarkable with only one loss, and fought the former pound for pound champ PBF, who happens to be his only loss.
thanks for the info boxrec warrior
although cotto and margarito wanted a piece of floyd, hatton has, and put up a decent fight.
ahahahahaa a decent fight? he got mopped the **** up.
you sure you watch boxing?
pacquiao would be facing an opponent who has ring experience against the best,
like?
Tszyu and Mayweather? ok but he is a mighty 1-1 in those
and that's why pacquiao/hatton fight at 140 in my opinion would do more justice.
ok
Pac/JMM 3 is finished business. get over it. the first fight was a draw but was supposed to be a win for pacquiao if it wasn't for a scoring error, and pac won the second. argue all you want, but that's what it said in the books. finished business.
you sound like a whiny Manny fan who for some strange reason dont want to see him in the ring with JMM.
I could also argue that while Manny, by way of his knockdowns, has indeed a 1-0-1 record on JMM it has been JMM who has been the better boxer in each of those fights
see but to hear you tell it Manny won in dominating fashion
he didnt
get over it
no. theres nothing huge at 130 or 135 compared to what he could be doing at 140 or 147. If you didnt know, manny was planning to retire soon. he doesnt have another 5-6 fights to clean out the up and comers at 130 and the old champs/ young up and comers of 135, and thats why hes trying to make an impact with the bigger fights in the bigger weight classes)
again if for the money then fine but think he is some superhero coming to save your world by fighting the toughest challenges because it sounds cultish
he is in it for the money just like every fighter who fights Oscar
read my post again.. he's capable of wiping out 135
there are a few fighters I wouldnt favor Manny against
replies like this are the primary reason as to why i made this thread. yeah he'd be making the most money by fighting ODLH, hatton and PBF, but those names would be best under his resume as opposed to a lineup of say cotto, margarito and JMM.. sure pac can make alot of money outta any of these last 3 listed, but like i said.. the first 3 fights would look way better under his resume
you really dont know the sport do you? DLH on his resume now as opposed to back in say 2001 is huge. Hatton circa 2005 2006 the same. and what good would a Mayweather fight do other than get him pummeled and schooled.
if you're honestly neither, then good for you. i said that "chances are" that "most of you" haters are either JMM fans or pac haters, referring to the majority of those who are ignorant
actually you sound more ignorant and butt hurt than anything.
smart ass
and here is my proof

I read the he's getting an unfair 70-30 split so shut up about the money. If you had any brains you would know dlh will never be in a 50-50 or 60-50 split. and if you had at least half a brain you would know that 30% that paquiao is getting will be his biggest purse BY FAR!!!! he is in it for the money, this fight is all about the money for both fighters nothing more. If you feel this fight is something other than for the money than I feel sorry for you. With that said i hope paquiao beats dlh for making such a pathetic match up and trying to make it sound like a fight that had to happen to prove something. Funny this is paq should have no business in a ring with dlh and dlh is so old and shit now pac might pull it off
hm... I thought pac got the 35-65 split...???
ALRIGHT, so i need to get this off my chest cuz i see 50 posts about this everyday and it's getting annoying.. for those saying that pac's just in it for the money, you all gotta think about it for a second. he's the number one pound for pound fighter today, and a shot delahoya wanted a 70-30 split? if any one of you were on top of the pound for pound list, you all know you'd feel ripped off.. especially from a fighter who's been hardly active for some time now. give the guy a fair split at least, right? well that's what he fought for, and that's what he got. now shut up about that. also, what featherweight do you see is eying some of the elite fighters 2-3 weight classes up? you all can judge the dude, but pacquiao's adding to his legacy by aiming at some big time fighters before he retires, which is very soon. it all makes sense.. he's got delahoya next, who everyone knows is an all time great, and it's been in the talks that he's also eying ricky hatton and mayweather who everyone knows are great fighters. now would you rather finish off your career with the likes of these three fights, or finish off with fighters like cotto, margarito (both who havent yet proved to be near an ATG status), or JMM (who will just keep bitching if he loses again)? the dude's not tryin to make a name for himself and wipe out every division he enters... he already did that working his way up to superfeatherweight, and everyone knows that he's capable of doing so if he really wanted to. the man's finishing off his career fighting HUGE names, and not CURRENT champions or CURRENT top fighters. he's smart for doing what he's doing, and if you're gonna hate, then you truly don't understand what he's trying to accomplish. chances are that most of you haters are either JMM fans or pacquiao haters that just wanna see him lose. plain and basic common sense. try to disagree.

i'm happy to see that there are people out there that feel the same way haha.. and makavelli, i know its a hella long read.. sorry! haha.. i'm not expecting that many people to read it either :P
it seems like oscar would be in it more for the money...
pacquiao is looking (in my opinion) to boost his legacy as a fighter...
oscar is looking for a few more big paydays and a chance to earn a big win against a top p4p fighter one more time...
this would do wonders for pac's legacy if he beats oscar and could set up another huge fight against someone like mayweather...
I like what you have to say especially this quote " the dude's not tryin to make a name for himself and wipe out every division he enters... he already did that working his way up to superfeatherweight" remember when Mayweather did it he was running scared although he dominated the lightweight and super lightweight division.
