No Joke. IF they are wearing smaller gloves, that fight is over by KO in the very first round.
Instead, Tsurkan is able to stand up and be beaten nearly to death!
We NEEEEEED smaller gloves in this sport, it is absolutely undeniable!
There is a reason why Max Schmelling lived to be 100 years old! And todays fighters are slurring their words in their 30's
I don't think that smaller gloves makes boxing safer, which is the implication here. And we don't know that the fight would have been over in round 1. Maybe it would have lasted until round 10, and since the punches were coming in harder it would have put the guy into a coma.
I kind of see your argument that in some cases quicker knockouts would improve safety, but overall, saying that punches landing with harder impact would make for a safer sport flies right in the face of logic. If nothing else that would have to be scientifically researched a lot before being put into play.
This whole MMA vs Boxing gloves thing is bullshit. MMA gloves have 1 inch of padding. Boxing gloves have 1 inch of padding. The fact that they are smaller has nothing to do with anything. The padding is the same. The only reason you see more knock outs in MMA is because the fighters have bad chins, and are not use to getting hit.
well, its also harder to create momentum with all that extra weight on.
its interesting about the thinkness of the gloves though. I think theres a difference there too however. boxing gloves are bigger, and the force behind the punch has to be spread out over a larger surface, which I think would lessen the effects of a punch.
...are they really the same thickness?
Who says that fighter's weren't slurring in their 30's? There were no clips back then to show it. Besides some fighters turn out just fine when taking that bad of a beating. Look at George Chuvalo.
I'm fine with the glove sizes, but maybe the smaller ones should have 6 oz. I don't see why they should change it. Death's happen less often now anyway. The main death's are in asia where there are HUGE mismatches.

2 ounces would make a world of difference.
and who cares if the fight sucked, it would have saved tsurkans career. i doubt he's the same fighter after that horrific beatingwell, I care if the fight is good. I also care about the health of the fighter, absolutely.
which is why mma gloves are way too small(short fight, shitty) and why current boxing gloves are too big (too many prolonged beatings)
mma gloves are like 4oz. boxing gloves for Welterweights are around 10 or 12oz, depending on the state I believe. so we should go down to around 7 or 8 ounce gloves, imo.
they have done research on this kind of thing too, and Im pretty positive that the 12 oz gloves didnt make anything any safer when talking about serious injuries/permanent damage.
if that fight would have been over in round 1, it would have sucked.
the gloves need to be slightly smaller...maybe 2 ounces less or so. it would be better that way.
