I was genuinely scared for Berto for the first 3 rounds. I saw Forbes landing clean effective blows and even though Berto didnt appear to be hurt, you could tell they were getting to him. I thought to myself "OH SHIT, this is going to be a long ass night for him". Good thing he kept the intensity and pressure up (although many of his combos were hitting gloves) and started taking control of the fight.
Good job Berto.
forbes can't punch through wet paper... nothing to be scared of.
Like I specifically said, he wasnt hurting Berto but you could notice that they were affecting him to some degree. It had me thinking how many of these flush shots Berto could eat before going down.

I think Berto is better than he is showing. Forbes gave him problems but he realized Forbes punches wouldn't hurt him so he relaxed in his defense for some rounds. Too many rounds if you ask me. Also Berto needs more combonation variety. He basically throws the same combonations all the time. What I really did notice that I hadn't before and surprised nobody mentioned it yet is that Berto can't fight on the inside. Anytime Berto and Forbes were on the inside Berto basically threw nothing and if he did it was only with his right hand. Also everytime in close Berto just wanted the ref to break them. Berto needs to work on that ASAP if he wants to be the fighter people think he can be.
Exactly Forbes couldn't hurt him but if you watch the fight in the early rounds Forbes hit him with some punches he didnt;t see and tehy did haev some effect on Berto. Berto does not have great power he does have very fast hands but his D is not tight and he gets hit very cleanly. I think Shane would knock him down for sure. Also he knew he was in there with a guy he should beat and his confidence level was high. Going in the ring with a soon to be hall of famer would be very different for this guy. People are comparing Shane and berto on these performances. You really can't Mayorga was holding the whole fight. In my book if you do compare then look at this angle even though Shane thought he was ahead on the cards he still brought it to a heavy handed fighter in the 12th round and ended the show with a KO. Berto was happy with a UD and the rounds in. IF BERTO TRUELY WANTED TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION WHY DIDN'T HE GO FOR THE KO?. I don't think he ever truely tried to Ko Forbes......Lefty
Still i'm not bought. I think Berto is a somewhat limited fighter. I fail to see real class like Jones Jr. or Mayweather Jr. prime versions. What i see is very fast hands with decent power. That filipino young gun, Conception (what's his first name?) could really help Berto out with footwork. They have the same body types cept the Conception guy has already a very good footwork. Thoughts?
I've never seen Concepcion, so i wouldnt know.
Sounds interesting though.

Berto did well but in my opinion was lucky that was steve forbes and not any of the top welters like Williams, Margarito and cotto.
Berto will taste defeat if he faces any of these fighters at this stage.
I agree. He will improve and will be ready for them soon.
I think he'll taste the canvas against Collazzo, not sure he'll stay down but he'll taste it.
I think Berto is talented but he gets hit way too much to beat any of the elite guys. He needs to really tighten up on his defensive consistency. a cople of rounds he looks solid but then he will allow himself to get peppered.
berto is extremely fast! it is too bad that he does not have a little more power to go with that speed and i would like him to tighten up his defense a bit. i almost think that he should be fighting at 140 instead where he would be more powerful in comparison. also, he weighed in at 145.xx so i think he could make the jww limit without too much trouble. maybe i am wrong and he will do very well at ww. i agree with precision san, i think if he faces the top of the ww division he will be defeated.
