Simple question.
Please discuss.
I personally believe he can stop him if he can land his right hands and uppercuts often. If he does stop him, I'd say it'll be around the 10th round.
Something you guys need to understand...ANYBODY can KO ANYBODY...all they have to do is land the right punch, or combination, at the right time. Jones has been doing this for years. He's not an especially powerful puncher, but his hands are (even now) lightning fast, and he's been catching guys off guard and putting them down his entire career...as anyone knows, even a mild punch you didn't see coming is much worse than a freight train you saw from a mile away.
Having said all that, I'm of the opinion that Calzaghe probably will catch some good combinations from Roy, get in trouble, and maybe get put on his shorts once, or even more...but he's got a great chin, recovers quickly, and I don't see Roy being able to even come close to finishing him.
I have said it before, that this fight is ALOT harder for Joe than if he was fighting Pavlik
Joe takes care of pav and easily wins wide on points.
Jones tho is gonna be alot trickier to beat.
Pavlik is an uncomplicated wrecking ball.
Roy Jones' farts have more natural boxing talent than Pavlik

In answer to the question, no, Roy Jones at this point in his career has neither the power or ability to beat Joe Calzaghe, much less knock him out. In fact Roy will be lucky if he does not get kayoed. In fact I predict that Calzaghe will stop Jones within the distance, and then go on to be clobbered by Pavlick in a one sided affair.
I don't see how Pavlik could ever clobber Calzaghe in a one sided affair. I wish Calzaghe was fighting Pavlik instead of Jones, I'd be far more confident.
heres some proof that roy is a hard puncher...after the prince badi fight in 06, badi was pissing blood for days due to roy's body shots. roy isn't really a one punch knockout guy, but he is a hard puncher.
That must burn.

lmaoooooooooooooooooooooooooo
that is the most hilarious (and delusional) post i have read on here.

I think he can because of his speed, Jones has always been a speed equals power kind of guy, if Calzaghe doesn't see the shot coming and it lands in the right spot, he could definitely hurt Calzaghe.
this is correct.
He definetely could, I'm more worried about this Calzaghe fight than any other.
It all depends how Jones starts he needs to get a foothold early or else he simply won't be allowed to get back into the fight. But Roy Jones still puts his punches together wonderfully when he wants to, if he gets into a grove lands consistanty, he can stop Joe.
maybe. heres the thing people don't get, roy jones is a hard puncher, but not against every fighter. for example, he happened to have landed a wicked hard perfectly placed body shot against virgil hill. does that mean that would happen in every fight? of course not, eric harding wasn't koed(fight got stopped because of his shoulder) ex. the point is if roy lands the right shot he is capable of stopping any figher 168-175. but it just depends if he gets to land that shot.
I think he'll land some wicked uppercuts on Joe.

I think he could assuming we're talking about the type of power Roy brings....I always thought roy never really had brute force KO power but rather power generated from speed and angles. He can sometimes hit people with stuff that they didn't see coming and couldn't brace for...so theoretically he COULD hit Calzaghe with something he might not see coming and that could lead to trouble...it does seem unlikely though. His handspeed isn't what it used to be.
I prefer to call Calzaghe "the zag" as opposed to "the calzaghe".
see my reply to reed, I prefer the zagmeister.

the calzaghe?
like, the?
of course he can? but i dont think he will...
and it wont be from a ducking lead jab
You beat me to mentioning the whole ducking jab/lead right hand to the stomach.
I was going to say "the Zagmeister" but i figured ppl would ignore the thread if I put that. I forgot to take out "the"
One-punch KO? that's extremely doubtful.
But a concentrated attack to the body could soften him up and force a stoppage - and I think Joe is capable of being hurt to the head and body. But he does what champions do and that's why he wins. End of story.
Funny...it seems as if a lot of Joe fans who called Roy old, washed up and finished are now saying, "Don't count him out!" This will be a very interesting fight on November 8th.
