Mikkel Kessler tells TVsport that there wont be any training camp in the US in preparation for his oct. 25. titledefense against german Danilo Haussler. His training schedule is not even ready yet.
"There wont be any camp at BIG BEAR mountain as I had when I prepared for Dimitri Sartison, but it wont be a problem as I'm already in great shape" Kessler says.
On the danish website lionheartboxing Kessler's trainer commented on the article. He said: "Calm down. Mikkel is in excellent shape. He just went 6 hard rounds with Evans without problems. Plenty of time to make a schedule for Mikkel."
Perhaps Kessler is underestimating his opponent. I find it odd that he havent even got his trainingschedule ready. The fight is only a little over a month away!
And it would give us announcers a chance to say Mi-gull instead of Mi-Kell.
I noticed that's how the Danes say it. But I will defer to Hamlet, I mean Bat on that one.
Are you an announcer???
Danes would say something like "Meggle"
Edit: Or perhaps rather "Mehggle"
Also Dawson and Diaconu and other young and upcoming talent. Right now the best fighter he could beat at 168 and get credit would be Taylor, what is the point of beating Lacy.
Kessler would beat AA
Fighting Diaconu at a new weight class does nothing for Kessler at this point. Dawson would be a great opponent, and its very likely this will happen in the future, if Dawson beats Tarver opponents at LHW are going to start looking very thin on the ground for him until some of the MW and SMW guys get there. In boxing terms there would be little point in beating Lacy, or Miranda for that matter but they are good opponents for Kessler because they would give him what he needs, US exposure.
Winner of Lacy – Taylor would seem right
After Taylor wins he would call the shots. He can pick any SMW champ (-JoeC of course) i.e. Kessler, Bute, Froch and they'll come a runnin'.
And no need for Kessler to move to LHW as there is plenty of big fights to be made at 168. Getting a big fight at 175 wont be easier IMO.
Why doesn’t he fight at LHW and capture a title or maybe MW, he would be Sturm
Kessler is too big for MW. As for capturing titles, you should realise he does hold the WBA SMW belt and before that had made a habit of collecting them, winning two and trying to unify against oh....the current second best boxer in the world.
As for LHW, I agree Kessler would have little to lose by going there, except big fights. If you think that Tarver, Hopkins or Jones are going to fight Kessler anytime soon you must be crazy, since all are nearing the end of their careers and are looking for big name American opponents. Calzaghe of course has already been there and that rematch isn't happening. By staying at SMW, where he is the consensus #1, Kessler maximises his chance of big fights with fighters who may actually fight him. Taylor is there, so are Lacy and Miranda, but more importantly Pavlik and Abraham have both fought at 166 in recent fights and if they move up it may very well be into Kessler's division. If they move up and decide to skip to LHW then I'm sure Kessler will go after them.
His management
No Americans wanting to fight him
Too dangerous
Same old with Calzaghe fans
Aaahhh. You're saying that Kessler fanboys make up excuses. Either that or perhaps potential Kessler-opponents, unlike certain boxrec-warriors, has seen some footage and decided that the risk/reward ratio aint worth it.
Nothing has come out. According to poster 'Scary' Team Kessler negotiates with team Pavlik but that's probably only decoy-neg. from Pavlik's end as he's more likely to fight Abraham.
Kessler want's the US market badly so I guess he wants any available fighter that can give him some HBO-time. I don't believe Froch or Bute is in his sight. Moreso the Lacy-Taylor winner or Pavlik.
Good idea.
If he wants the US market, however, he'll have to try coming here.
up to kessler? its not up to kessler. the trainer rules.
that bewildered look on kesslers face inbetween rounds in cal/kess says it all.
lets hope montoya doesnt turn into a Yes man.
Olsen works for Kessler. Kessler could show him the door if he wanted to.
i take it you mean kessler wants the us matket badly after his next fight.
after these two tuneups since the calzaghe, then he bends backward to try to get a taylor or pavlik, then maybe i'll say, hey they doing it right!
i'm telling you bat i still get burnt at kesslers corner when i rewatch
cal/kess blah blah blah .he had his chance.
I agree. I wasn't impressed at all either. But maybe thats how Kessler wants it :dunno:
In any case Kessler brought in Jimmy Montoya as second trainer and cornerman for his last fight. I'm not myself a believer in more than one person to do the talking in the corner myself. But that's just me.
Makes sense Bat. Let's hope his promoter makes those moves.
Kind of surprised in a way how bad the Calzaghe-Kessler fight did in the us market.
Kessler needs exposure sooner rather than later in the US.
Absolutely. And that's why not taking the Miranda fight was a monumental mistake.
Who's Kessler want after this?
Too bad he couldn't have worked it out with Miranda. The networks would've bought it and he'd be more of name internationally (not that he isn't to a degree).

Ever seen the movie Great White Hope? Mikkel Kessler could sit at home for six weeks eating bon-bons and still get rid of this chump. He's basically saying he'll do his regular training but nothing special for Hauser. For better or worse, that's what it is.
IMO he should take it more serious as he is entering a stretch in his career were big-money fights are within his grasp.

I remember him. He was considered a solid journeyman at best until he got he's big break. He was matched pretty tough from the get-go and learned his craft the hard way, so there any comparison to Haussler comes to an abrupt end :lol1:
hahahaha. Well what you say is very true, but you do see my point. Average fighters can be very dangerous and can notch it up when given a big break.
Anyone remember Fred Pendleton? He was merely an opponent with a .500 record. He once got an opportunity to fight a ranked fighter and former champion Roger Mayweather. Well he knocked out Mayweather and then went on a great streak of doing very well against top fighters for a long time. He was still inconsistent against average opponents, but gave the better ones much more than they wanted and eventually became a champion.
Sometimes all it takes is a little extra spark.

What separates the best fighters from the average fighters usually is not that much. Quite often it comes down to dedication.
An average fighter can rise up and fight the fight of their life when given a great opportunity. They lay it all on the line and can be more dangerous than ever.
I sure hope Kessler knows what he is doing here. I mean he does know his own body and where it sits better than anyone. He is still sparring and keeping in shape so perhaps he is taking it easy due to a slight injury, which would not totally surprise me as he is prone to them.
I remember when a lot of these questions surrounded the Pavlik/Lockett fight. Kelly prepared himself well, but if he didn't Lockett could very well have left hooked him out of there as he entered that ring determined. It happens and no fighter is invulnerable.
kessler needs some professionals in his corner. theyre taking the easy way and going to settle with making him a euroboy boxer and relegate him to fighting euro and eastern block lackeys.
come on kessler your better than that!
But unfortuna´tely that wont happen. Richard Olsen stays in Kessler's corner for the rest of his career. At least that's what Kessler says. And Olsen himself thinks he is the best trainer in the world............ (true story)...
I dunno, I certainly think Pavlik will beat BHop, Hopkins just won't throw enough, exactly the same as the Joe fight. Not sure about Pavlik vs AA, would probably give the edge to Pavlik but that might be based on the fact that I just haven't seen enough of AA yet. Not sure what is going to happen, but there should be several great fights between 160 and 175 over the next few years.
Aye, there better had be or I think I'll probably just decide all boxers are bums and start watching Greco-Roman wrestling.
