3.5 lbs don't win fights. Or as I should say...wouldn't change the outcome of the winner.
Don't reply to me with such stupid and mindless bullshit. He is closer to the junior welterweight limit. There are weight classes for a reason you idiot, and it is for safety and competitive reasons.
Go and compare the fights between JLC and Corales.
3.5 lbs don't win fights. Or as I should say...wouldn't change the outcome of the winner.
Try telling a professional lightweight boxer that. You are dead wrong.
Yet every Castillo fan on this board justified it at the time and said I was a sore loser for saying Corrales was at a disadvantage. Everything changes so much after a few years.
Like I keep saying about Mayweather. They will absolutely love him 2 years from now. Every single poster on this site.
except Diego pulled the same fucking shit in the Casamayor fight and look where that got him.....lol karma is a bitch aint it!

Did you watch Corrales-Castillo I and II? If so, explain to me why you don't think 3.5 pounds makes a difference.
He won't get any credit from all the knowledgeable boxing fans who's been into a typical training camp. These boxers starve themselves to death just to make the agreed weight while training his ass off for 2 or more months. That's why it's an ordinary sight to see boxers coming into a weigh-in pale, haggard and looking like skeletons. You will also see there's a feast waiting for them on one of the corner tables once they make the agreed weight.
Here comes a boxer, who has no regard for the contract that he had signed, coming in overweight, didn't even bother to show up after the extension he was given, instead, he went for the nearest pizza parlor right beside an ice cream house, and ate himself to death.
What would've happen if Nate just decline to fight Joan? What would've happen to the fans who already booked themselves a flight and bought the tickets?
Exactly....
Nate had the right to cancel the fight.
Guzman would get no credit from the crooked stationing bodies, so why would we give him props for not fulfulling his contract of making weight?
Some guy busted his ass to make weight and the other didn't.
It is pathetic that a championship level that fighters can't make weight.

I disagree entirely with this post. At the top level, those 3.5 pounds mean everything. One guy had to struggle down to 135 pounds, a weight low for his natural walk-around, while that other isn't nearly as depleted by not having to sacrifice. When you are already at a low weight for yourself, as all fighters who fight below their walk-around weight are, those extra 3.5 pounds mean the world.
There is a reason Guzman, should he win, will not be recognized as champion. Because the weight does make a difference.
You recall the second fight with Jose Luis Castillo and Corrales? The first was an instant classic, the second one, Castillo fails to make weight, comes in with an inordinate size advantage, and blows Corrales out in four. Tell me there was no difference there.
As ESPN.com put it:
"Corrales paid the price in that fight, losing on a fourth round knockout to a fighter who didn't have to make the same sacrifice to make weight as he did."
Coincidentally, in that and in this instance, both Castillo and Guzman weighed 138.5 pounds, 3 and a half pounds over the weight.
very good post bro...
None. See also Corrales getting KO'd by Castillo in the second fight. It just added drama to the scenario.......
All it did was allow Castillo, thoroughly hurt by letting his signature win slip through his hands the first time around, exact some meaningless revenge in a fight which he had an unfair, noncompetitive advantage in.
He's 3.5lbs over the limit, if he beats Campbell then how much credit will he get?
Side note: How does a guy moving UP from 130 fail to make 135?

I'm really dissapointed, i thought this would be the biggest fight of his career (and it is) but he kinda fucked up with the weight issue.
Not good for his struggle for respect.
I fail to understand how a guy training for a fight doesn't step on the scales SEVERAL TIMES every day in training camp. That just tells me Guzman and his camp are a bunch of idiots. But I refuse to believe that people are THAT stupid so I have to assume he meant to come in overweight. I mean don't we have to assume that? Can people really be so stupid as to not weigh a fighter every single day? I think most women weigh themselves 2-5 times every fucking day. How does a fighter whose job is based on him making weight not step on the scale 10x a day? Un fucking believable.
I'm sorry, but I have no respect for anybody that doesn't make weight after the Corrales and Castillo debacles. That's classless, shameless, and disrespectful to the sport and your opponent.
I've seen that happen more than you would imagine. The fighter thinks not having to make the lower weight means he can eat what he wants. If you're drying out to make weight you can put five lbs on very easily.
Also, this is a guy who reportedly gets up to 170+ between fights and enjoys life outside the ring.
These are top fighters, so an extra 3.5lbs shouldn't make a world of difference, though it will be interesting to see what they weigh in at on the night.
I can only guess Guzman added too much muscle and couldn't dehydrate enough. I haven't seen any pics though, so for all I know he is fat.
Guzman will get credit if he wins in my eyes, but presumably he's lost the major 'credit' he would have wanted, which is possession of the belts if he wins. This is actually quite a big deal for him. If he beats Campbell and looks good, he will instantly become one to avoid in the division, a big threat with no titles. Had he made weight and won then anyone who wanted the titles would have had to fight him. A pretty big slip up from Guzman I think.

don't hate on guzman
u can say that guzman has no integrity because campbell came over weight too. though he made weight he still was over and the only difference was that guzman could't make it in the second try. guzman is going to win 8 rounds to 4 and take him too school. nate should be happy he came in at 134 because maybe he could cat him, sike. the fight is going to turn out how it would have even if he was at 130.
It's so disappointing that he didn't make the weight. I never would have guessed that he wouldn't make weight. If he wins, it will be slightly tarnished but if Campbell wins, I think it will add a little to his win.
It also makes sure if Campbell loses he gets another big money fight but if Guzman wins Campbell will proberbly not want to fight him again meaning Guzman will have to stay at the side because he's all risk no reward (unless he stays a mandatory) If Campbell wins then Guzman will proberbly not get a big fight at Lightweight for a long time.
