I personally think it is pathetic that any boxer at a championship/world level to ever miss making weight. It shows complete disrespect to the sport and basically the idea of making fights fair.
What should be done when a fighter fails to make weight?
Should a fight be canceled?
If so what is the number of lbs that cancels it.
What happens to their purse?
Anyways in my opinion there is no excuse at the championship level to miss weight.
an excuse?
if being unable to make the weight is an excuse, then yes.
sometimes these guys get pushed into weights at which they aren't comfortable, and even if they try as hard as they can with training and diet, they still miss the weight.
robert garcia fighters really kill themselves to make weight. unless it's the fighter saying "it's @ this weight or i don't fight" i have a hard time for faulting those guys.
now, if you dont' train hard and you come in fat i have no respect for you.
It is disrespectful..he paid his dues he was suspended etc couldnt get fights, got ridiculed and became an embarassment to everything a whole nation of dominicans were disgusted by him,but nobody is perfect and ppl move on.he just made weight and hes staying in the gym making up for his past.btw his mother died of cancer 2 years ago just saying.if he continues to make weight you wont give him a chance? Regardless his skill is there and you dont see it.his only problem was his weight.
Funny how people still defended him... and now what is there left to say for this joke.

So you went thru all my posts, and bumped up this 3 year old ass thread... jeez. What a circle jerk fanboy you are for Guzman. It is rather pathetic of you.
I think they should be banned from getting a title shot from that stationing organization for a year, and in Guzman case that is 3 out of the 4 legit stationing bodies.

they are a professional they signed the contract which said they would make that weight they should have some form of punishment for not meeting the weight
i think being over is a problem, but if the fighter has no history fo doing this then he should not be looked at like a failure, castillo failed many times so he should be banned from a the division he could not make weight in.
i think sometimes comeing over weight doesnt have to do with not being in shape, i have a fealing that guzman gained more muscle weight then he thaught he did

This is going a bit off but, I think suspensions mean nothing in boxing really.
Example, fighter misses weight in a big fight, gets suspended in Vegas. So what? He can just fight in Atlantic City, Cali, NY, Etc etc.
I bring that up beacuse i seen boxers suspended for different reasons.
Anyways as for a fighter missing weight, that is a good question. Giving a fine to a fighter puts them in debt and leads them to fight when they shouldnt be
