Jones has as much chance of beating Calz as Judah had of beating Clottey none what so ever these people saying he will KO Calzaghe are hilarious incase you have'nt noticed Calzaghe takes a pretty good shot also Jones last KO was way back in 2002 against Clinton Woods
so WTF
i also dont see him getting a decision either cause of his poor stamina this is a sure fire victory as you can get IMO same as the Judah v Clottey fight
unless Calzaghe has detiriorated to the level Jones is at now then i only see one winner and it aint Roy im afraid
I like his hand speed. I also think its pretty incredible that hes still undefeated and hes 36 years old.
You're one of the few who realises that Joe is old! His handspeed is very good for a SMW, but its starting to fall off now. Joe's best attribute is his boxing brain, he always works out what his opponent wants to do and stops them doing it, he's like Hopkins in that regard. He's different though because he does it by stifling them with his own attack, whereas Hop is more defensive.
Anyhows, nice talking with you and we can pick this up another time, but its 6am here, I stayed up to watch tonights fights, and now I need sleep!
Are you kidding? Easily! He's not only my favourite, I think he's the most talented active boxer. After him I like Nonito Donaire, Kessler, Manny Pacquiao, Margarito, Mijares....

Is Calzaghe your favorite fighter?

Its just my childish reaction to the Calzaghe hate I attract. Dirrell is there because I think people will soon start saying Joe is ducking him.

lol. hey, why is your av and sig crossed out like that?

yeah it would be boring if everybody was like...well personally I think..well atleast in my opinion...not to say it couldn't go the other way!!!! but I...I think Calzaghe will win.:haha:
that would be so lame.
I think calzaghe will win, but its just my opinion :D
It wasn't dumb, and although I think its more fun when people post strong opinions, I think everyone here, especially me, could benefit from being more objective. I think as well that its easy to misconstrue innocuous disagreement over boxing as something along the lines of "OMFG! You are a moron!". I do it all the time. With me, if I don't call you a moron, it means I think you aren't!

My post earlier was dumb, your right people are suppose to write argumentative posts. your not suppose to be objective, your suppose to say Calzaghe will win. Thats what makes it fun. I guess I'm guilty of not liking it when people write off things I like. It pissed me off all last year when people were writing the Celtics off. I've been a huge Roy Jones fan for years(favorite boxer all time for me), so I really want to see him end his career with a big win. But people are right to pick against him, he hasn't been an elite fighter in a lonnng time.

Its all good, I'm tired of arguing about this stuff.
I think Roy Jones Jr. will win, it actually doesn't have to do with bias. Like I said I picked Calzaghe over Hopkins and I'm Hopkins fan as well.
If you think Calzaghe will win, good for you. He probably will, but I'm going against the grain this time.
Yeah, its all good. I can see why some feel Roy could win, he was a very good fighter. We all have our own opinions!
If you're looking for me to say its possible then I can say it, this is boxing so of course it is. It would be a bit pointless if we just went around saying, either fighter can win, because its possible, wouldn't it? I don't view todays Jones as a particularly good fighter, certainly no longer at the elite level, and I expect Calzaghe to beat him comfortably.

I'm a Hopkins fan and I picked Calzaghe over Hopkins. So I don't pick fighters to win because I'm a fan. I usually go with logic, but this time I'm going against logic. I personally see Roy winning. I said it the night Calzaghe faught Hopkins. Honestly I think Calzaghe is a great fighter and I respect him. I'm just in this instance am going with the underdog.

But what I'm saying is Jones has a chance. People act like Calzaghe is the god of boxing and its impossible for Roy to win. Thats not true, Roy is still a good pro and has a shot.
It doesn't bother me that most believe Calzaghe will win, afterall that is the logical choice. What does bother me is how some act like Roy has no chance. The reason that bothers me is I feel people are hyping Calzaghe up too much. Calzaghe isn't Tyson of 1988. If I didn't know better, I would think he was. Joe Calzaghe is a great fighter, but he is beatable just as Jones was. He also only 4 year younger than Roy Jones and has had just about the same amount of fights. Is Roy the guy to beat Joe? Maybe not, but I just think the certainty in which people are writing Roy off suggests that Calzaghe is something unbelievable. I've seen Calzaghe, great fighter...but hes not unbelievable. I think its going to be an exciting fight, and honestly if Calzaghe wins fair and square I(and many others) will give him alot of credit. Let the best man win...
This is all very well, but it neglects one simple fact: Calzaghe does not need to be 'unbelievable' to beat Jones, he merely needs to be himself. The pressure and intensity he showed against Hopkins will alone be enough to beat todays Jones, who is not very mobile and not very active. If Calzaghe is still capable of the type of movement he showed against Lacy and Kessler then he will dominate Jones from start to finish. Writing off Jones' chances is not about being a fan, but more, as you point out, about being logical.
I also want to say that I never said Jones was the fighter he once was.(I know abadger didn't direct that at me but I just want let it be known). I understand the Roy Jones Jr. of 1988-2003 is long gone. But what I've continued to say is that Roy Jones now is still a good fighter. Roy can still do some good things out there even now...
