43 going on 44 yr old man. i mean, i think i have underestimated just how good a shape, and how disciplined he is at this stage. he still fights a a very high level as well. i am envious, and hope i can stay in 1/2 that shape by the time i reach 44.
B-Hop remains at the top level of the sport simply by craft and extremely economical punching. Yeah, he is in superlative shape for a 44 year old, but time has been catching up with him lately; In the Calzaghe fight I saw signs that he is finally begining to slip in a way that will keep him from beating any more top fighters in the future. He is still in excellent shape (for his age), but he just doesn't have enough stamina or punch output anymore.
I think he was feigning pain from low blows in the Calzaghe fight in order to buy time to rest. I think Pavlik will be his last fight, and for the first time ever I see a knockout loss as a possible result for B-Hop. All the skill in the world won't overcome Pavlik's barrage if Hopkins cannot throw enough to keep Kelly off of him.
Foreman was able to keep going past 44 because he had that great equalizer, power. Hopkin's doesn't have it, and a great defense is no substitue for effective offence.
also.........i guess fighting the #2 p4p fighter to a split decision means he can't fight anymore? Good self ownage, son. Lets not forget that the #2 p4p is also overrated.
hey stupid, yeah you! no one expects a 44 yr old man to fight like he did when he was younger(except morons such as yourself), but even fewer expect that 44 year old to perform on such a high level, that would beat all, but a few of the very top guys. the truth is that bhop even at 43 has still never been in a fight he could not win as he entered the final few rds. fuck outta here.
Umm...I don't expect him to fight like he did when he was younger...but to say he still fights great is ridiculous. All he does now is hold and hit...how in the hell is that great???

his body looks in shape, but he can't go 12 full rounds anymore. he can't even potshot as good as he used to anymore.
quality hommie, good heads up on reality, something that needs to be addressed here more often, sometimes i read things here and i'm blown away by some of the obtuse views and over exaggeration and down right stupidity. it's sad, but then again, it's entertaining too.
good posts though, again.
thanks bro. much appreciated.

Thats very true about Holyfield...I guess you can blame all of the wars he has been in...Holyfield may be a warrior but those punishing shots he took over the years of being in boxing is finally taking its toll. B-hop has always fought smart and limited the amount of punishing shots that hit him.
i agree ray. good post.
holyfield stays in great shape, yet he can not fight near the high levels, yet bhop continues to. that says alot. thats what seperates him from others who stay in shape, and look great. he can actually perform like he is much younger, and compete at the highest levels. not easilly attainable.

Yeah but seriously his life has been dedicated to keeping his body in shape, its not like he sits in a cubicle for 8 hours then in traffic and needs to make time to work out. Not to mention now he has a team of scientists & nutritionists taking care of him :lol1:

yea he has always been in great shape. year round too, very impressive. There was a reason he was champion for so many years, and theres a reason he is considered one of the greatest middleweights ever

I think Lennox Lewis is 45 (No 100%) just to put things into perspective..
He is retired, and out of shape. And Hopkins only a little younger is in great shape!
