a few months after this Hopkins was his partner in golden boy promotions. De la Hoya made over 30 million from this fight, a great business move from Hopkins and De La Hoya or was it the real deal?
clearly a dive, hopkins is big but no way would he put oscar away with one body shot like that.
the "BODYSHOT!" "BODYSHOT!" shouts in the stand kinda gave it away
Why not? Here's a sample vid. Watch it around 2.38

What kind of fucking idiot yells "BODY SHOT" as the signal to go down? Watch some more Bernard fights. Nazim Richardson, who is yelling, always yells shit like that.
am i the only person that hears the constant chanting of body shot just before Hopkins throws and lands the punch. then the person shouts oh oscar as if to mock him that the punch is comin.
Hopkins is my guy but i could see why people think it is suspect
maybe a better question is did oscar throw the fight against mayweather when his corner kept telling him to JAB JAB JAB, and what did he do? he definitely didnt jab.
i dont think he threw either of the fights. since neither rematch came to fruition, i dont see what benefit there would be.
1) Jones shot sounded like he broke something there
2) It was a right hand.
That being said, I am undecisive about Oscar throwing it. If he did throw it it was because Oscar knows he has a hell of a chin and he was in for a lot of punishment in the reamining rounds.
Bingo. If he threw it, it wasn't a set up that Hopkins agreed on anything. I have no doubt that the punch knocked him down. Whether it put him out is a question we'll never no, but it was never a setup where Hopkins and De La Hoya agreed upon.
What would the motive be for Oscar to take a dive against hopkins though? Hopkins was a big favorite going into the fight, so it's not like it was an upset. He was also a favorite to win by KO, so if it would have been smarter to just go the distance.
Plus, people aren't really even considering that oscar really didn't belong at 160 and never been hit by a big guy before in his career.
another angle
body shots can be deceiving too. here is roy jones vs hill, the body doesn't shot doesn't LOOK all that bad at all, but dude looks like he's giving birth on the canvas. This is also a punch that lands on the side, near the liver, just like the hopkins shot

it did not look like hopkins put much power into that punch.
He threw the fight, fuck de la puta............
Nah, just fuckin around, but gettin hit in the perfect spot in the body is like gettin hit in the perfect spot in the head/chin......you're going down!
Also what kind of dead obvious sign would be "BODY SHOT" "BODY SHOT" anyway? Nazim Richardson always yells shit out in fights like that.
Oscar definietly went down on that punch. If he stayed down on purpose I don't know, but it definietly wasn't agreed upon.

Yeah, the thing is he has not much to lose in he lose. I tried to look at the punch several times and it looks like it even hit DLH's forearm first.
I have strong suspicions that GBP fixes fights and it wouldn't surprise me if Oscar took a dive there. Oscars fight with Sturm had to be fixed--no fucking way he won that fight. He came in looking completely sloppy because he knew the judges were in his pocket and you could see it on his face when the decision was read. DLH vs PBF -- not even close to a split decision, but a split decision necessitates a rematch which is exactly what he wanted.
