ODe La Hoya Sparred With IVAN CALDERON

Calderon is 5 feet, Mosley is 5'9, Oscar De La Hoya 5'10.5. Calderon fights at 108 lbs., Mosley at 146 lbs. (vs. Cotto) to 153 lbs. (vs. Fernando Vargas), De La Hoya last fought at 150 lbs. (or, 151 Lbs, to be exact). I'm sorry but I cannot see how a sparring session between De La Hoya and Calderon can be the same as one between Mosley and Oscar. Until Fischer had the rumor confirmed by Calderon himself, it was mostly treated as a claim made by Roach that did not have confirmation. The confirmation came only a couple of days ago, when Fischer spoke to Calderon. Fischer revealed the confirmation only a few hours ago. That cannot be old news. Moreover, Calderon's assessment has not been known before. At best, it was merely rumored, not news. As news, it cannot be old. No he ment Calderon has sparred with Mosley.

To begin with, there is nothing that I have ever written in this thread that can be construed as bashing Oscar. As for boxing background and your command for me to, "stay the f___ out", you may want to check the date that I became member of this site (2004) and stack that up against your few days of membership just to see if you have earned the right to boot me out of here. I have been talking boxing fsince I registered (albeit, not as frequently as I would have liked to have done) and before that, for decades prior to the birth of BoxingScene and internet sites like it. My original post had two purposes: 1. To state that Doug Fischer, a highly respected boxing journalist, got confirmation from no less than Calderon that the rumored sparring session truly occured. 2. To report what Doug Fischer said was Calderon's assessment of that sparring session, i.e., De La Hoya has "problems with quick and mobile southpaws". Nowhere in my posts did it say that bigger fighters do not spar with SMALLER ones. It is, however, remarkable that a Middleweight should choose to spar with the SMALLEST. And, given that De La Hoya has the well-earned reputation of being among the few who are shoo-ins in the Hall of FAme, it is even more remarkable that he should have "problems" with a 108 lbs., 5-foot fighter who is not even in most P4P lists. One would have expected De La Hoya to have a walk in the park. who gives a shit its a fucking sparing session!!!!! would u say that he should be going out all guns blazing trying to knock him out! he was obviously picked as a number of sparing partners were, for oscar to practice for a variety of styles, scenarios, fight strategy etc. why the hell not spar with a small awkward guy, who also happens to be one of the finest defensive fighters in the sport?

This is not news; Calderon was SHOWN sparring with Oscar on 24/7...it's just so few knew to look. This was reported long ago as well, if only briefly.

Yeah it isnt out of the norm to spar with smaller guys. It is suspct if you actually have problems with one. Calderon is nothing like Pacquiao though, and I'm sure Oscar was pulling his punches to go a long with the head gear and 16 ounce gloves.I would only go as far as saying, it is noteworthy.
