I was excited that there was action so fast in this fight. Joe must of thought it was going to be a long night as it was with all that joe humpin bernard action!! What were your thoughts, etc.???:spank:
Daniel explain how the fight you met the concrete went down.
LOL it wasnt a fight I was like 14 and I was messin with my cousin. I was hiding in a huge box on a couch about 2 feet off the ground. I had my arms in so noone could see me. I kept callin him downstairs and he kept coming down, but everytime he came down I'd hide back in the box. The 3rd time he came downstairs I popped my head up and he was bullshit, He pulled the box down with nothing but my head sticking out and I hit straight concrete. My arms were stuck inside the box, so I couldnt brace myself at all. It was my head and concrete and that was it, no brace or anything. My doc said it was one of the worse concussions he'd ever seen. I straight up pissed myself when I was out and woke up drenched in sweat from head to toe.
When Calzaghe went down in the first round obviously everyone following him was worried but these things happen and he showed what he was worth by turning it around and winning the fight
I agree....he got back up and made the adjustments he needed to make, but I still think B-Hop pulled it out, but I can see why the judges and so many others scored it for Joe...
I was very surprised to see Calzaghe knocked down, and it worried me because I knew it would be a hard to score fight and KDs can be very important in that scenario. However, I knew that Calzaghe would come back strongly.

I thought the other two cards were a couple points difference? I remember 115/112, maybe I'm just not remembering it right.
Anyway, my point was that Byrdwoman has had several questionable decisions, so using her as the rallying point for those who thought Hopkins won....not really solid ground for an argument.
The scores should've been unanimous in JC's favor since he clearly won 8 rounds.
The official scores were, Ted Gimza 115-112, Adalaide Byrd 113-114, Chuck Giampa 116-111

Your right, it was 115-112. Bad memory on my part.
There were media sources ringside (ESPN, Yahoo, and the AP)who scored it for Hopkins among others. So I wouldn't call Byrd's scoring outrageous or anything. I thought Giampa's 116-112 was more worthy of being a called a poor scoring decision.
Roy was attempting to throw his own left hook which didn't help the fact that he didn't see it coming even more so. Also Roy is known for throwing things like a lead left hook rather then a jab, simply becuase its harder to counter a left hook then a jab. On this night that didnt work. I wont call it a lucky punch, any punch that is thrown with that kinda intent is meant to land, just the way it did with Tarver, but ur def right, he did in fact have his eyes closed.
And believe me, a head and a hard surface like cement and a ring canvas for that matter, which has absolutely no give whatsoever and not meant for each other. Further more so when u have no ability to brace yourself like in which Roy had none of in falling to the canvas after the right hand from Johnson.
I had no time to brace myself, it was head and concrete, concrete won in a bad way, I spent 2 nights in the hospital and suffered from cold sweats for a few days during which I would wake while sleeping. The head is not meant to hit such hard surfaces such as these. Point Blank!
The left that Sanders hit Wlad with he never saw coming and he was out cold for a few seconds but showed his huge heart by getting up. Sanders may not be a great fighter but the guy has a wicked left. Wlad never recovered from the first knockdown and lacked the defensive ability at that time to avoid getting stopped.
Comfortably ahead is 114-113 for Calzaghe?

Adelaide Byrd was the sole source of dissention in that decision, the other two cards had Zaggs comfortably ahead. If you're using that crazy bitch as an anchoring point to imply that Hopkins might've really won......
Technically, though, you're 100% right, it was a split decision.

:wtf1: :nonono:
What does his nationality have to do with anything?
The more shit I see on this forum, the less it fucking surprises me, pal. I've been a member here for a few years, and I've been absolutely forced to take 2 or 3 breaks for several months at a time. Otherwise I eventually begin to be drawn into the nonsense that goes on around here, and I simply will NOT have that, no sir I will not.
To be fair thats some pretty strong hate right there. Barely mentionable technically? Bernard Hopkins? :wtf1:
And to be fair, he's only been that way the last 4 or 5 years. And when I say "barely mentionable, technically", I'm referring to the constant clinching, and the total shutdown of activity he tries to impose on his opponents. LIke I said before...I respect his ability and smarts for allowing him to remain competetive for so long against strong young opponents, but his dirty infighting just puts me completely off the guy. Another one I can't stand because of his dirty tactics is Casamayor.
A thread dedicated to people talking about how much they enjoyed seeing Calzaghe getting knocked down vs one guy that considered Hopkins a dirty fighter who can turn any fight into a mess?
I guess we'll just have to disagree about which hatred appears stronger.
I'll let Stickman answer for himself, but IMO the comments about "barely mentionable technically" referred to the fight, rather than just Hopkins. And he's right. It was not a good fight, it was messy, there were very few clean punches landing...I thought it was a horrible fight to be honest.
I agree the fight was awful.
I haven't looked through the entire thread either, bit over the endless Joe hate threads.
LOL, you look through this thread and it's this guy that you criticize for hating...

Drink haterade much?
So...there's one boxer that I respect but can't stand to watch because he's a dirty fighter, and I'm a hater? Maybe you ought not to jump to conclusions, buddy. I dislike ALL dirty fighters, though Hopkins is one of the more blatant. Honestly, there are plenty of reasons to actually hate Hopkins, if I were that type...he's a crybaby, he turns every fight he's in into an ugly mess, he's got a big mouth, he's arrogant, self-centered, narcissistic, and the list goes on and on....
I didn't think a great deal about it, really. He was off balance when he went down (might've went down anyway, it was a beauty of a right, sneaky and quick), and obviously wasn't hurt...flash KD's happen, nothing to get excited about. I was more concerned about Hopkins' billy-goating and other such shit than anything else....I figured there'd be some nasty cuts, but they never materalized. I actually had a hard time watching the entire fight...dirty fighters like Bernard enfuriate me, and even if that weren't the case, Hopkins can turn any fight into an ugly mess that nobody would pay to see, and this fight was no exception. Horrible to watch from an entertainment perspective, and barely mentionable technically.

it was a split decision, brother.

Joe won that fight by a wide margin and there was never any question that he would do so.
He was not even a little bit hurt.
It's sad that Hopkins fans hang onto this. It's like losing a basketball game by fifteen but bragging about the shots you made anyway.
it was a split decision, brother.
