I think they will. This fight could draw a ton of PPV buys. It will be dubbed the fight of the century. The P4P #1 vs a boxing legend. I wouldnt be suprised if the phrase "David vs Goliath is used. I could see more of the show being centered around manny and his triumphs. A small man vs the world type senario. The heart of a large champion. More people could relate to that. If DLH loses he will certainly retire. If he wins I can see maybe wanting to fight cotto but not many other fighters. Cotto is a small WW in hieght but not thickness. It will be interesting fo sho. Good thought G I agree with all this. The biggest problem I see though is that if Oscar makes this fight look easy or takes Manny out quick, the public is going to cry rip off! On one side of the coin this fight brings boxing good exposuer. On the other side, it has the overwhelming potential to bring it the kind of exposuer the sport can do with out.

I just thought of something. Does anyone think HBO will do a 24/7 series on this fight? If so, how will they spin it? I hate to believe the general public would consider this fight to have any meaning. And I will give odds to anyone who wants to bet this is Oscars last fight. Whats left? Most realistic fans see little chance for Pacquiao. If DLH wins, as most expect, big deal. How will HBO spin this fight into not just a PPV success, but a mega success? I think they will. If these were the days of same day way ins, I would be inclined to agree. But Oscar will be replenished and a good 12 to 15 lbs heavier than Manny come fight time. Still...............go Manny!!!!! Good point. I covered that in one of my books. Go read and hit the thread back!

FMJ has different people saying different thinks about him. The back end of it people are saying "he ducked" and "he hand picked his opponent." With him being freshly retired there is still a ton of buzz around him. How will people remember Oscar? There’s likely going to be a two-weight-class disparity between the men when they get in the ring. For that fact alone, I honestly can’t believe that Oscar wants this bout as his swan song. Yes Pacquiao is the pound-for-pound champion right now, and yes he’s a mega-star around the world so he ups the PPV projections considerably. But think of it this way – the real reason that Oscar is ducking Margarito is because it’s a lose-lose situation for him fighting another hard-nosed Mexican cut from the mold of Chavez. The Mexican community wouldn’t embrace him in that kind of match-up no matter what he did, and so he figures that there’s no upside in a Margarito bout for him. To my mind, the Pacquiao fight is the same scenario with the entire sports community at large. Because of the size difference between him and Manny, and because that will be THE headline of this fight above all others, if he loses he’ll look terrible, and if he wins, it will be like, “well, of course he won, he’s the bigger man BY FAR.” There’s no upside for him whatsoever, absolutely nothing for De La Hoya to gain out of this bout but a big payday. At this stage of the game, I’m shocked that he’s still on the “if it makes dollars, it makes sense” tip. He’s made so many dollars, if he wanted to the guy could afford to make his own sense. Instead, he’s taking the easy way out of his own career.
