On ESPN the great writer Graham Houston speculates on how Muhammad Ali would have fared against other great HW's.
He states that Ali would beat:
Dempsey by KO (I believe)
Louis by decision
Marciano by KO
Tyson by decision or KO
The controversial part is his opinion on Lewis. Houston says that Lewis stylewise is a bad match-up for Ali.
Houstons nice argument is here:
"Size, styles and psychology would all have played a big part in this fight.
Lewis, while not nearly as fluid or as fast as Ali, was a very big heavyweight at 6-foot-5 and around 245 pounds. Ali would have been the small man in the fight.
Ali's taunting of an opponent, the undermining of the other man's confidence, might not have worked against Lewis, who had a sort of professional remoteness.
Ali would have needed all his skill, moving Lewis around, seeking to get off first with the jab, darting in to score and sliding out, scoring in bursts. He did this and made it look easy against 6-foot-6 Ernie Terrell, but Lewis was a much bigger-framed, technically superior fighter and clearly a bigger puncher than the long and lanky Terrell.
Lewis' long-reaching left jab could have given Ali problems, and his right hand would have been a threat throughout the bout. Lewis, steady and calculating, would have been confident in his size and power and wouldn't have been intimidated. He could have timed his left hand, enabling him to match jabs with Ali. Lewis might even have outjabbed him, as Ken Norton was able to do.
Ali would have had to take some solid right hands, and his fake wobble wouldn't have rattled Lewis, who would simply have waited for an opportune moment to unload another thudding shot.
It's doubtful that Lewis would have lunged off-balance in his attempts to land the right; he would have held the center of the ring and waited for Ali to take risks.
In terms of style, and always bearing in mind the size difference, I think that the much bigger Lewis might have been completely wrong for Ali.
Verdict: Lewis on points in a tactical match without many thrills. "

Haye also has the speed and power to take out Wlad quickly, so passing Haye off as no kind of threat is just foolish. In time you will learn these things about boxing. Just because we are huge fans of a fighter, doesn't make them invincible. Anyone can lose to any fighter in boxing. Its happened.
the problem with this statement is wlads defense is much better than haye's,,,,so he should be able to land more easily and haye's power at heavyweight is still unproven. knocking out a journeyman in bonin didnt prove anything. wlad has knocked out 44 heavyweights. haye is going to be hit by a guy 40lbs heavier than he's used to being hit by. his chances are low in my opinion but I look forward to watching haye and see how he does in his 1st fight. he is exciting
Wlad destroying Haye is plain and basic common sense
Haye is a cruiserweight with a glass chin and horrible defense, he keeps his left hand way too low and is too susceptible to right hands, he's an easy target for Wlad.
Easy 2nd round KO win for Wlad

Good opinions so far.
I also think Lewis would have given Ali trouble early on, but Ali was too active, fast, and defensively skilled to lose that fight. IMO I pick Ali by decision. These huge heavyweights just can't fight at the intense pace some of the smaller great fighters used to fight at. I can never see a fighter as big as Lewis or Wlad ever being considered the "greatest". No way.

Haye at heavy is a real unknown quantity I think. I will be interested to see whether his chin improves at HW. If it doesn't then I think Wlad would take it with a KO, but perhaps not in round 2. Wlad's chin, whilst not being great, is anything but glass so I think that gives him a decided advantage in this fight. I would say Wlad KO 8 but it would be an interesting one to watch nonetheless.
Lewis' size, strength, reach, excellent jab and KO power would give him a great chance against any of all time time greats.
Lewis would keep Ali at bay with his long hard accurate jab and pick him apart...Ali would definitely be competitive and put up a tough fight, but Lewis would be too much for him in the end.

Lewis' jab and physical advantages definately give Ali trouble but the key to this matchup is ALi's speed. Prime Ali had speed like Lennox was never in the ring with and this would prevent Lewis from successfully implementing the gameplan that you outlined.
The speed advantage combined with Ali's great chin would see him come out on top IMO, either by decision or late KO. But I do agree with you that Lewis was a great heavy and should not be ruled out of beating any of the past greats.
Wlad KO 1 British Hype job Haye
who needs an explanation :lol1:

I can see Ali beating Lewis by decision. I also fail to see how Tyson beats Ali outside of a puncher's chance at best. Look at Tyson against Tillis. Ali would do the same but much better plus he has the chin to not worry much about Tyson's power.
I was not criticising your opinion, more the fact that you never give any explanation of your opinions. It is always just "Wlad by brutal KO" "Lewis would beat Ali" and similar one liners. The only explanation as to why you post like this is that you have very little knowledge.

Lewis would beat Ali so would Mike Tyson
Louis is unaffected by verbal abuse, he's bigger, an excellent boxer - solid power and an amazing jab.
Tyson is a much better version of Frazier, nuff' said.
I havent thought about Lewis vs Ali.
As for Joe Louis though, not he was about six foot even, and a good 20-25 pounds lighter than Ali. He would get out boxed and jabbed in his face all night. Ali on points or late stoppage.
As for Tyson, Ali would not be intimidated or impressed against Tyson. He would get into Tyson's head, bully him and TKO him. Like everyone else that stood up to Tyson.
And Tyson isnt a better version of Frazier, Frazier wasnt a bully who got scarred and folded when someone stood up to him. Two very different fighters.
Ali is the greatest HW of all time, so sick of the Tyson Myth.
