They're using SRL as an example, nothing wrong with that....but as we all know, that isn't a prime Hagler. John Mujabi and Thomas Hearns 2 fighters that have more power then RJJ couldn't stop him. No insult to SRL but if Leonard would have faced the Hagler Thomas Hearns faced then SRL would have gone bye bye early.
Exactly. And Hagler WON THAT FIGHT WITH SRL. Sugar Ray just flurried with 30 seconds left in every round and stole a bunch of them.
Tough call between Hagler and RJJ, since I love both of them, but I just can't see Roy keeping Marvin off him for a full 12-15 rounds. Hagler by late stoppage.
I think Roy could end up boxing him to a decsion and if it was a 12 round fight i would favor Jones by a smidge. Jones would fight Hagler more like Leonard instead of like Hearns. I do not know how Jones would deal with a prime Hagler though, it is a 50/50 to me almost no way i could pick a winner without seeing them actually fight. It would probably be the thoughest fight of both their careers because most of Hagler's big fights came at the end of his run, but a prime-prime matchup of these 2 would be insanely interesting.
Either Hagler gets him out of there or loses a decision. Regardless, Roy's chin would be made to finally show its true colors to an extent it perhaps never was in any of his prime fights.
i think hagler was more in his prime than sugar at least he was still active and suger came out of retirement. i dont think roy beats the shit out of him at all but i think a prime roy does get the ud. if roy hadnt slowed down and lost those few fights i think most everyone would pick roy to win.
exactly. SRL was a smart man and there was a reason he fought him when he did - because he saw that Hagler's skills started diminishing and he wasn't the same fighter he once was. Not to take anything away from SRL because I still believe that was one of the most amazing wins of all time.
SRL even said so himself,
I read it somewhere. He said he noticed Hagler was slipping a little, slowing down etc. So he knew he could beat him.
well we now know at least two posters (picked jones by KO) are severally mentally challenged.
Hagler = possibly the greatest chin boxing has ever seen.
Think about it.
Jones was very close to being in his prime when he fought hopkins and didn't come close to knocking out hopkins. He didn't even beat the shit out of hopkins, it was a semi-close fight with neither fighter landing any really significant punches. How the hell you figure jones would KO hagler?
Damn it, sometimes this site pisses me off.
agreed. It's got to be youth in thinking that Jones or anyone at 160 would have stopped Hagler. The man took flush bombs from Hearns for 2+ rounds and it didn't stop him. Mugabi, Caveman Lee, Roldan (the knockdown looked more like a slip than anything) all couldn't stop Hagler and those guys could flat out crack.
I could see Jones pot shotting from the outside but somewhere down the line Hagler's work would slow Roy down a bit. Its that point where we would see if Jones could do this over 12 to a guy like Hagler who would just keep coming and unlike a face first brawler who would give more angles and cut off the ring with his footwork.
it's not a given Jones wins this at all.
lol @ jones or ANYONE beating the shit out of a prime Hagler. That's just ignorant. At best Jones could keep a good distance and out box him. But he surely as hell wouldn't beat the shit out of him.
Agreed. Surely in whatever alternate universe this fight could happen in...jones would have to stay the fuck away from hagler the whole fight or take a hell of a beating...
The way I see it is, you can have fantasy fights and people can argue over the result for nearly every fight unless you throw a prime Jones into the mix. From 160-175 I'd say Hagler or Moore would come the closest to beating him but I'd still favor Jones.
As much as I like to always pull for Hagler in "what if" bouts Jones could have been a very confusing fight for him. I could see Roy pot shotting Hagler for 12 to get a decision but with his chin issues he would have to stay out of Hagler's way which would be easier to do for roy than what sugar ray did given what I perceive to be his size and reach advantage...I could be talking out of my ass though....maybe roy wouldn't be able to stay out of range the whole fight...leonard couldn't...I don't think roy's chin is on par with leonard's even though I wouldn't exactly say he has a glass chin. It's not like Tarver and johnson farted on him and knocked him out....they both put a good amount of stank on their punches.
what about over 13 and a half rounds?
dont be a smart ass :lol1:
i think Jones takes it over 13 and a half rounds but Hagler would be in full command by the 12th,13th rounds
Hagler would catch him in the 14 the round though and KO him
how many people think hagler would have "destroyed jones"
a prime jones would literally beat the shit out of Hagler
dont know no man that would beat da shit out of Hagler, i could see Jones keepin his distance wit that speed & winning a u.d.
