clottey is a great boxer and counterpuncher with good defense. i think this is the toughest style for margarito to fight. margarito cannot just go in recklessly and in the first fight he didnt really beat up clottey. he just outworked him.
in the williams fight margarito just started slow and once he got going he gave williams a vicious beating. from the look of both fighters after the fight you would think margarito dominated the entire fight. in the rematch margarito will just get started earlier and dominate williams so im glad margarito is being a real man and true warrior and taking the tougher fight with clottey. this is the same as when margarito took the tougher fight with williams instead of cotto last year.
:boxing:
Clottey was able to get a few of the later rounds as well. After the 5th round was over, he went back to his corner and shook his hand so clearly there was something wrong. I personally believe that he has Margarito's number. He just has the patience an perfect style to offset Margarito's volume punching. Cotto didn't have that patience and that's why he gassed out in the later rounds because he was so anxious . I would give Margarito a better shot at beating Williams because he could have started earlier and put some of those earlier rounds in the bank.
Margarito admitted in an interview that Clottey & Santos were the toughest fighters he has faced, however that was before the Williams fight. Even though I believe Williams beat Margarito clearly, I still think Margarito delivered the harder punches.
See, we agree...you didn't see the fight. You grabbed that cross of Jesus from around your neck, kissed it and said, "If there is a God in heaven, please...please give Margs the victory". Your prayers were answered with the ridiculous scoring of the fight. He gave it to Margs for the first 5 for the record.
Four or five... fucking forgive me that I don't remember exactly how many rounds Clottey fought, I haven't seen it for a couple of months.
I have seen it (I mean, who the fuck hears that Margarito threw 1,675 punches and doesn't immediately go to DL it?), and Clottey looked good. Everyone looks good against Margarito in the first few rounds. I didn't read too much into it.
And Clottey absolutely was covering up way too even have an argument for winning almost any of the later rounds.
Press row and the judges agree with me, so... don't act like I'm in the minority thinking that Margarito won. You are actually in the tiny minority of people who think anything other than a Margarito win.
EDIT: I'm agnostic and not a Margarito fan. I can't imagine why I would be grabbing a cross while praying for a Margarito win.
You didn't even watch the fight. Someone told you Clottey was giving it to Margs early, so you went to a local Catholic church and prayed Margs won...lol
...lol
I have seen the fight. Clottey looked good in the first four rounds, and then started covering up instead of fighting.
No way that fight was a draw.
if you want just my opinion i think clottey is a way tougher fighter. williams has no defense and he doesnt have the power to make margarito respect him. margarito just has to start throwing volume from the opening bell and its an easy win.
clottey is a great boxer with a good defense and i think his counterpunching will give margarito a ton of trouble.
I guess that makes sense.
All Margarito has to do to beat Williams is be more accurate than Williams in my opinion. They both throw a ton, and Williams has less power, so I think Margarito will win a rematch with Williams.
I think Margarito beats Clottey easier though... while he does have good counter punching skills, he usually tries to wait until the original onslaught is done, and with Margarito, that doesn't come very often. Once he starts really going in the later rounds, Clottey is going to be blocking too much to get enough offense off to win enough rounds.
I personally think Margarito wins both, but I think he has a tougher time with Williams.
All I know is that Margarito-Williams II is going to be a BEAST of a fight if Margarito has the kind of punch output that he needs to have. Padilla-Oliveira watch out! Your record is getting broken!
i know alot of things like that margarito is the baddest man in the planet and that he was going to knock cotto out. but most of the time people dont listen to me so if they say clottey was going to win easy then margarito has to prove them wrong.
margarito is a true mexican warrior but he also has the honor and dignity of a mexican fighter. he said williams won not to take credit from him but you know deep in his heart he felt he won the fight and he will beat williams in 2009 by ko.
The bolded part makes literally zero sense. He cried his eyes out about a robbery right after the fight, and then after watching the replay, he decided that he wasn't active enough in the early rounds and decided that Williams deserved the decision. That doesn't sound like someone who is worried about taking credit from someone else. If so, he would have saved himself from crying like a woman after the fight.
Also, I can understand if you are saying that according to everyone else's logic, Clottey is supposed to be a tougher fight, but it doesn't make any sense using things that you don't even believe to justify your overall point. You don't believe that Clottey was on his way to a decision victory on December 2, 2006 had he not hurt his hands. You have probably watched more Margarito fights than anyone else on this forum, and you know for a fact that Antonio Margarito looks bad in the first few rounds, and then comes on later, after they tire out a bit, to overwhelm his opponent to a decision win or a stoppage victory.
So, cut the bullshit. You know that Williams is the tougher and more imperative fight at this moment in time.
We all saw the replay and came away thinking Clottey earned a draw. Margs ear, nose, and lip were puffy and bleeding, his eye was swollen so we didn't think Margs won by 4 points on 2 cards and 11 on another lol. I'd look to see if I can get a Shane or Mayorga fight too if I had a choice to fight Williams or Clottey.
You thought Margarito-Clottey was a draw?
Are you out of your fucking mind?!?
didnt everyone and there mother say that clottey dominated the first 4 rounds and was going to win an easy decision if he didnt get injured?? williams barely survived to beat margarito and it was a robbery in the eyes of the real boxing fans and the media who saw the fight live. so of course clottey is the tougher challenge. its just plain and basic common sense.
You know for a fact that Margarito comes on late, and Clottey was not going to win. So stop trying to use what others would incorrectly say to justify your arguments. You know for a fact that Margarito was going to become his usual whirlwind and overwhelm Clottey.
Also, Margarito admitted that he lost the Williams fight after rewatching the tape. Margarito outfought Williams wholistically, but considering it is scored round by round, the fact that he didn't get started until way too late means he lost the fight.
No, it is you, who, in fact, needs to use some plain and basic common sense, because I know that you don't believe that Clottey was going to win that fight, and neither do I.
Only the idiots around here don't realize that it is common practice for Margarito to look not so great and lose the early rounds, but he comes on like a fucking beast after round 4 or 5 in like every fight.
The exceptions to the above are when he sparks someone like Golden Johnson in one round, or when he is able to impose himself really easily on a Cintron or something like that.
Regardless of a "hand injury", Margarito knew he could walk through what Clottey brought, because Clottey is not a puncher (some people insist he is, but 7 of his last 8 Ws have been decision wins), and he was going to start and keep pressuring Clottey, and Clottey was just going to shell up.
I think Margarito wins the rematch pretty handily to be honest with you.
Seriously though, I don't know how in the hell you honestly think the guy Margarito beat is a harder fight for Margarito than the guy Margarito lost to.
styles make fights.
Not an effective answer.
He has already fought both, so we have seen how Clottey's style matches up with Margarito's, and how Williams's style matches up with Margarito.
The results speak for themselves. Margarito got a fairly wide UD over Clottey, while he lost against Williams. You do the math.
For Antonio Margarito, Paul Williams has been proven as a tougher fight than Joshua Clottey.
Plain and basic common sense.
So, this is where we left out coward... you interested in showing up to finish this, or will you continue to duck me?

I can see why so many people got off the Margarito band wagon, dude, no matter how you slice it, Williams beat him and Clottey didn't, end of story.
i think Clottey will beat Margarito i feel Clottey is a better fighter than the one that faced Marg the first time around and i believe he will have the confidence he can beat Marg because of how well he performed last time and because he is now a champion
I don't get it. Margarito beat Clottey, yes there are question surrounding the fight, could Clottey had beaten Margarito had he not hurt his hands? We don't know.
But Williams already beat Margarito, clearly. And I'm not really buying Margarito starting faster would win him the fight because Williams actually won the 12th round of their fight when Margarito had already got going. Williams is a tougher fight stylistically but I wouldn't put it past Clottey to beat Margarito either.
As always, Silencers is the voice of reason with facts instead of emotions.
NRGARD4HUMNLIF got banned?? Damn. The mods had it with these guys I guess.
It's like the 12th different screen name he has had banned. It's about time they have started to get on top of it quicker than they have been showing.
I'm going to keep bumping this, because he is obviously going to make a new screen name and continue to post stupid shit.
