For The peaple that are saying Margarito based his carreer on fighting smaller fighters, they're wrong cottos biggest wins came to fighters natrually smaller than him...
1. Oktay urkal-140 pounds
2. Zab judah-140 pounds
3. Shane mosley-135 pounds
... All moving up in weight... and lets not forget all the reports saying Cotto was always a natrual welter weight killing himself to mak 140. So Margarito beat a natrual 147 pound cotto along with fighting alot of other natrually big fighters...
1. Danny Perez2x 147-150 pounds
2. Andrew Lewis 147-154 pounds.... Sergio Martinez(147-154)
3. Hercules Kyvelos 147-154 pounds
4. Daniel Santos2x 147-154 pounds
5. Sebastian Lujan 147-154 pounds
6. Kermit Cintron2x 147 pounds
7. Joshua Clottey 147 pounds
8. Pual Williams 147-160 pounds
The only 2 fighters he fought that were natrually smaller than him were Manuel Gomez(135) and Golden Johnson(135).. and those were "stay busy" fights. Not his big wins like the small guys Cotto picked on.

You need to read more my firend...All fighters (with the exception of most Heavy Weights) start out a llower weight class and look to move up. They look to start where they have a natural advantage and are stronger naturally then others. Cotto beat the best the 140lb had to offer and then moved up to 147. he is 5'8 take a look at most 140lb fighters and see what the average height is for that division I bet it is between 5'7 and 5'10.L et's look at the top 3 for example Hatton 5'7.5, Kendall Holt 5'9 and Paul Malignaggi 5'8.5. I think Cott at 5'7 fits in there pretty good. Now you say Mosely is a true 135lb fighter he fought everyone at WW held multiple belts in bvoth WW and the 154 LB divisions. He best Oscar for the 154 lb title and fought against guys like Wright, Vargas and Forrest. Judah who is a bum now at one time was the undisputed WW Champ. I know I have said this over and over again but as someone pointed out to me in another thread you don't get to be undisputed dchamo by not being a quality fighter. I just get frustrated with Judah sometimes. I know he is a great fighter. As for Oktay Urkal he was also a fighter trying to move up to 147 Cotto took him out. Urkal is 5'8.5 by the way not to small of a man for 147.....Lefty

Are you stupid? Shane Mosley was a champion at 154...What happened when Marg tried to step up to 154? I am a Marg fan dont get me wrong, but Cotto wasnt picking on smaller men. He fought a natural WW in Quintana in his WW debut. Granted, Urkal,Judah, and Mosley all started their careers in smaller weight classes, but they were all adjusted to WW. And Mosley was a world champion at 154, moving back down to 147.
Let's say Hagler picked on smaller guys too, Duran who came straight from jr.middle and was a lightweight.Leonard who was a welter coming out of retirement, Hearns was a jr.middle/welter. C'mon man, Cotto has faced a way better opposition than Margarito, who has 5 losses. I don't take away his big win over Cotto.
Mosley: beat Oscar at 154, Vargas twice at 154.
Judah: beat Spinks and fought well against PBF, the p4p king.
Quintana: beat Williams who had beaten Margarito.
This thread is so silly.
This thread is a big stretch, Cotto has fought guys his weight and size always - he has also defeated natural welters like quintana.
I just dont know where peaple came out saying margarito based his carreer on fighting smaller fighters... they should get their facts straight.
Oktay Urkel is a welterweight
Carlos Quintana is too,
and Shane Mosley has been all the way up to jr. middleweight so how exactly is he a "smaller" fighter again?

Urkal was at 140 his whole carreer and only moved up 4 fights prior to fighting cotto and i didnt say anything about Quintana. Dont put words in my mouth.
Cotto was a natrual welterweight... they said on the reports..he was killing himself to make 140.. and i did list the fighters margarito fought that werent natrually 147. Manuel Gomez and Golden johnson...See for yourself!... Oh and i Also forgot Margarito beat Sergio Martinez(147-154) that was udefeated at the time.
Doesn't matter if Miguel Cotto was a natural welterweight, he still started his career and won a title at light welterweight.

You know that Miguel Cotto started his career at 140 so went he went up and fought Judah and Urkal who you say started at 140 are not smaller fighters since they started their careers at the division Cotto started and they moved up just like Cotto. Shane Mosley's most notable wins are at the welterweight division with 2 wins over Oscar De La Hoya. So in conclusion Cotto hasn't made a career fighting fighters smaller than him. If you are going to make a thread like this also I suggest you list the fighters that Margarito fought who weren't naturally 147, so we can really compare. Because you listed Cotto's opponents who rised up but didn't list Margarito's opponents.

Mosley was a former welterweight champion who had twice beaten De La Hoya, went up to 154 and beat guys like Fernando Vargas.
Zab Judah picks on bigger guys, he knocked out Cory Spinks who beat Mayorga.

Zab went up to 147 and his carreer went down the drain only ko'ing spinks and beating no names... Zab is still natrually small and so is mosley.
Cottos biggest wins still came to guys natrually smaller than him.

You know who likes to pick on smaller fighters????
It's that Mexican b*tch who was born in East La....who listens to Ricky Martin and likes to wear fishnets...queer.
