Given Mikkel has become a bit of a major talking point of late given all the JoeC shit flying around I thought I would make this thread as it is a topic that interests me a fair bit.
What direction do you think Kessler's career will head in the future? Will he just continue fighting these guys he knows he can beat comfortably and effectively waste his incredible ability or elevate himself into that elite level, break into the top 10 or 5 p4p guys in the sport and become a dominant figure in the future of the SMW/LHW divisions.
Add discussion also, don't just lodge your vote. I am interested to see the path that people think this guy is going to take and what led them to their conclusion.
sadly i think it will just fizzle out... he'll fight and beat some more bums until he eventually loses again either in an upset against a bum or when he steps up again
He's gonna have to step again and fight and beat top competition, otherwise he will be forever known as the guy who lost to Joe C. I'd like to see him fight the winner of Taylor v. Lacy, which will most likely be Taylor.
Me too. I personally hope that Taylor chooses Kessler over Froch or Bute. But it's Taylors decision. He holds the key to HBO.
if he keeps fightin mediocre competition, then he would be going down.
however nowthat he no longer has to protect an undefeated record, he should try the LHW division
definitely agree, i think he would get bigger fights in that division there arent many names int he SMW div so he needs to move...fight bute, froch and taylor at SMW then move up IMO
Kessler is not looking for greatness he is looking for a mediocre but solid career making less cash without taking huge risks to make the big money
i think this is a sign of the times with Kessler i really do the guy could of fought Miranda but chose to fight Dimitri Sartison for a title when building a profile in America could have pocketed him even more cash in the long run
Americans appreciate Nigel Benn more than Eubank cause they have seen more of him ,Sanderline Williams ,Barkley ,De Witt , McClellan ,Quinones
True, but I dont think Miranda is anything special. An average fighter at best.
I hope Kessler will get his next fight out of the way and try to secure a fight with Bute. If Kessler makes the right moves, I can see him being a real force at light heavyweight if he moves up.
Can you imagine a Dawson vs Kessler, or a Pavlik vs Kessler fight. I would pay to see that.
Would you agree a fight with the Bute-Andrade winner would be a good career move?
I think Kessler could beat Bute, and no doubt he beats Andrade if he somehow wins :lol1:
No. He has nothing to prove against Andrade after outclassing him last time. Bute is another story. For this fight to happen both Kessler and Bute needs to catch the attention of HBO, because such a fight IMO needs big exposure. I'm not sure if HBO is ready to pay big for such a fight at the moment.
It surely depends upon the negotiating skills of his management Team Palle, who hasn't been impressive post-Calzaghe.
Kessler himself said after regaining the WBA belt via KO over Sartison, that he wanted to fight in the US next. That didn't happen as he now has to fight a mandatory in Danilo Haussler in Hausslers backyard. That's obviously dissapointing.
I predict that, assuming Kessler expectedly defeats Haussler, he'll be fighting in the US next against a known but not top-tier opponent. That could be Miranda, Vargas or another. If he fails to land a US exposure fight, look for him to fight fellow dane Mads Larsen in Denmark.
I cannot see him taking on Froch or Bute before late 2009 at the earliest. Should he get this far without defeat, I'd expect a superfight with Pavlik early 2010.

I voted up, but I'm afraid he's going to stuggle to get big fights. I don't think anyone will fight him. I also think blaming Kessler for his last two fights is too harsh, his bread and butter is in Denmark and he needed a belt to guarantee that there should all else fail. As for whether he'll choose to continue fighting easy opponents, I see no reason to think he'll do anything but want big fights in future, he fought the best SMW had to offer and he faced Calzaghe. I think his problem will n ot be him but his opponents, as I said, I don't think anyone will fight him.
Mismanagement, that's his real problem. He's skilled, has power, has nice speed, great stamina, he's able to beat anyone there at super middle.
He should fight someone in America now, maybe for the Taylor-Lacy undercard. If not, he should fight Carl Froch, Allan Green or the Bute-Andrade winner.
say goodbye to kessler for awhile. he's now on the calzaghe career plan. fighting bums in his homeland. maybe in 10 years you will see him pop up to fight a 60 year old hopkins.
horrible horrible horrible management. It will go down because his team has no clue what they are doing.
He is already obscure in the US, and he is just drifting further and further away over here
Yeah I have heard some stuff about his managerial setup. What is going on with it?

Hopefully he sparks that Haussler bum out in a round or two and moves on to fight Froch,Taylor or Bute.
He needs to get his name into the American market though, he has all the tools to make it big with a personal apperance and personality to match.
